[Machine] Some of his companions brought him (the Prophet Muhammad) something and he neither declared it lawful nor prohibited it. Ibn Abbas said, "What are you saying? The Messenger of Allah was only sent with (the knowledge of) what is lawful and what is prohibited. It was only Umm Hufaid, the daughter of Al-Harith, who came to visit her sister Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad, and they brought food with them, in which there was the meat of a deer. Then the Messenger of Allah came after he had become dark (meaning it was night). Maymunah said, 'O Messenger of Allah, it is the meat of a deer.' So he refrained from (eating) it and Maymunah refrained from (eating) it." Ibn Abbas said, "But whoever had meat with him, he ate it, even if it was prohibited, he prohibited them from it and said, 'It is not our land, and we are not in need of it.'"

[Machine] Some of them said, "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I neither make it lawful nor forbidden.'" Ibn Abbas said, "How terrible is what you have said! Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was only sent as one who makes things lawful and forbidden. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with Maymuna and with him were Fadl ibn Abbas and Khalid ibn Walid and a woman. So, some khawans were brought to him, along with bread and game meat. He held his hand and said, 'This meat is not for me to eat, but you may eat.' So, Khalid ibn Walid, Fadl ibn Abbas, and the woman ate. Maymuna said, 'I will not eat any food that the Prophet ﷺ did not eat from.' So, Maymuna did not eat."

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Kam'a (i.e. a kind of edible fungus) is like the Manna (in that it is obtained without effort) and its water is a (medicine) cure for eye trouble." (Using translation from Bukhārī 4478)

[Machine] Ibn Abbas said, "Whoever claims to have a relationship or allegiance with someone other than his parents or those whom his parents have freed, then upon him is the curse of Allah and the angels until the Day of Judgment. No act of charity or justice will be accepted from him."

tabarani:13012ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad b. Saʿīd b. Abū Maryam > Muḥammad b. Yūsuf al-Firyābī > ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd b. Bahrām > Shahr b. Ḥawshab > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbbās

[Machine] A group of Jews came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ one day and said, "O Abu Al-Qasim, tell us about some things that only a Prophet knows." He replied, "Ask me about whatever you want, but guarantee me the protection of Allah. And know that whatever Jacob took from his sons, if I tell you about it and you recognize it, you must follow me." They agreed, and asked him four questions: Which food did the Israelites forbid upon themselves before the Torah was revealed? How does the water of a woman differ from the water of a man? How can a child resemble their mother or father? How can this unlettered Prophet be among his people? And who is his guardian angel? The Prophet replied, "I have Allah's covenant with you. If I tell you, give me whatever guarantee and condition I wish." They agreed, and he said, "I swear by the one who revealed the Torah to Moses, do you know that Israel once fell seriously ill and his condition worsened? He made a vow that if Allah cured him of his illness, he would forever prohibit his most beloved drink and food. His most beloved food was the meat of camels and his most beloved drink was their milk." They said, "O Allah, yes." He said, "O Allah, bear witness." And he continued, "I swear by the one who revealed the Torah to Moses, do you know that the water of a man is thick and the water of a woman is thin and yellow? Whichever prevails determines the sex of the child, with the permission of Allah. If the water of a man prevails, the child will be male with the permission of Allah. And if the water of a woman prevails, the child will be female with the permission of Allah." They said, "O Allah, yes." He said, "O Allah, bear witness." And he said, "I swear by the one who revealed the Torah to Moses, do you know that this unlettered Prophet's eyes sleep while his heart does not?" They said, "O Allah, yes." He said, "O Allah, bear witness." Then they said, "Now tell us who is your guardian angel among the angels, for based on your answer, we will either follow you or abandon you." He replied, "My guardian angel is Gabriel, ﷺ . There has never been a Prophet sent by Allah without Gabriel as his guardian angel." They said, "If your guardian angel is someone other than Gabriel, we will abandon you and call you a liar." He said, "What prevents you from believing in him?" They said, "He is our enemy." At that moment, Allah revealed, "Whosoever is an enemy to Gabriel, then indeed he has brought it (this Quran) down upon your heart by Allah's permission, confirming what came before it as a guidance and glad tidings for the believers. [Machine] The Prophet ﷺ gave a sermon to a woman from his people, known as Sawda, who was widowed and had five or six children from her previous husband. The Prophet ﷺ asked her, "What prevents you from being with me?" She replied, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, nothing prevents me from being with you except that I would like to be the most honorable woman to you. However, I would like you to take care of these children at your side, morning and evening." The Prophet ﷺ asked her, "Is there anything else that prevents you from being with me?" She said, "No, by Allah." Upon hearing this, the Prophet ﷺ said, "May Allah have mercy on you. Indeed, the best women who rode the fastest camels were the righteous women of the Quraysh. They loved their children when they were young and cared for their husbands themselves."

Then it was morning and he said, "Faith will not be complete until disbelief returns to its homeland, and the seas will be traversed in Islam. A time will come when people will learn the Quran and teach it. Then they will say, 'We have read and learned, so who is better than us?' Are those people better than us?'' [Machine] In His saying "They ask you about orphans. Say, 'Improvement for them is better,'" and this was before the revelation of "Indeed, those who devour the property of orphans unjustly are only consuming into their bellies fire. And they will be burned in a Blaze." The Muslims disliked eating with orphans and felt uncomfortable if they were to mix with them in any way, so they asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it. So Allah revealed, "Say, 'Improvement for them is better. And if you mix your affairs with them, then they are your brothers. And Allah knows the corrupter from the amender. And if Allah had willed, He could have put you in difficulty. However, He chose to facilitate for you."' He says, "It is not to restrict you but [to promote] virtue;" and He says, "Whoever is rich, let him be abstinent, and whoever is poor, let him eat [only] in a fair manner." [Machine] Ibn Abbas said about the saying of Allah, "And when you are among them and lead the prayer for them, let a group of them stand [in prayer] with you." (Quran 4:102), that this prayer is performed during times of fear. The Imam stands and a group of them stands with him, and another group takes their weapons and stands facing the enemy. Then the Imam prays one rak'ah with those who are with him, and then sits in his posture while they stand and pray the second rak'ah individually for themselves. The Imam remains seated until they join their companions and stand in their positions, and then others come forward and the Imam prays the second rak'ah for them. This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed with the people on the day of the Nakhla palm tree.

[Machine] In His saying, "those who avoid the major sins and immoralities," Allah [glorified and exalted be He] states that the greatest of the major sins is associating partners with Allah, because Allah has said, "Whoever associates partners with Allah has certainly forbidden Paradise to him." Another major sin is despairing of the mercy of Allah, as Allah says, "None despairs of the mercy of Allah except for the disbelieving people." Another major sin is scheming against Allah, because Allah says, "No one feels secure from the plan of Allah except those who are the losers." Disobeying one's parents is also among the major sins, as Allah has made the disobedient one oppressive and wretched. Killing oneself is forbidden except in cases of justice, as Allah, glorified be He, says, "So its recompense is Hell." Throwing accusations at chaste women is also a major sin, as Allah, the Majestic, says, "They are cursed in this world and the Hereafter and for them is a great punishment." Consuming the wealth of orphans is a major sin, as Allah, glorified be He, says, "They do not consume it except into fire. And they will be burned therein." Fleeing from battle is a major sin, for Allah, may He be exalted, says, "And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless swerving as a strategy of war or joining another company. Such has indeed returned with anger upon him from Allah, and his refuge is Hell - and wretched is the destination." Taking usury is a major sin, as Allah, the Most High, says, "Indeed, those who consume interest cannot stand [on the Day of Resurrection] except as one stands who is being beaten by Satan into insanity." Witchcraft and sorcery are among the major sins, as Allah, exalted be He, says, "But they do not appraise Allah with true appraisal." Adultery is a major sin, as Allah says, "He will be flung on the Day of Judgment to be dipped in fire and be scorched to a horrible lodging." Breaking oaths is a major sin, as Allah, exalted be He, says, "And whoever breaks an oath brings upon himself the burden of sin." Withholding the obligatory charity is a major sin, as Allah, the Most High, says, "So let their chattels and their children not impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them." Bearing false witness is a major sin, as Allah, exalted be He, says, "And whoever conceals it - indeed, his heart is sinful." Drinking alcohol is a major sin, as Allah, exalted be He, prohibited it and declared it impure. Deliberately abandoning prayer or any of what Allah has enjoined is a major sin, because the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, "Whoever abandons prayer willfully has disbelieved and removed the protective covering of Allah from himself." Breaking covenants and cutting off ties of kinship are major sins, as

[Machine] Narrated Ibn Abbas regarding the saying of Allah, "Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment." He said, "There was a group of people among the people of the Scripture who had an agreement and a covenant with the Prophet ﷺ . However, they broke their agreement and spread corruption on the earth. So Allah gave His Prophet ﷺ the option, if He willed, to kill them, or if He willed, to crucify them, or if He willed, to cut off their hands and feet from opposite sides, or if He willed, to exile them from the land. As for exile, it means to flee in the land. If they converted to Islam and repented, their conversion would be accepted from them and nothing that happened previously would be held against them."

They said, "Go to Muhammad, perhaps he has a dispensation in this matter." So, they went to him and said, "O Abu al-Qasim, a woman among us has committed adultery. What do you say about her?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "How did Allah rule in the Torah regarding adultery?" They said, "Leave the Torah aside, what do you have in that matter?" He said, "Bring me your most knowledgeable person about the Torah that was revealed to Moses ﷺ." So, they brought him a man, and the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "By the One who saved you from the people of Pharaoh and split the sea for you and saved you, and drowned the people of Pharaoh, has Allah informed you about the ruling in the Torah regarding adultery?" They said, "He ruled for stoning."
