Should I recite it to you while it has been sent down or revealed to you? He (the Holy Prophet) said: I love to hear it from someone else. So he ('Abdullah b. Mas'ud) recited to him (from the beginning of Surat al Nisa' up to the verse:" How shall then it be when We bring from every people a witness and bring you as a witness against them?" He (the Holy Prophet) wept (on listening to it). It is narrated on the authority of Ibn Mas'ud through another chain of transmitters that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said that he had been a witness to his people as long as (said he): I lived among them or I had been among them.

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said (to me), "Recite the Qur'an to me." I said, "Shall I recite (it) to you while it has been revealed to you?" He said, "I like to hear it from another person." So I recited Surat An-Nisa (The Women) till I reached the Verse: 'How (will it be) then when We bring from each nation a witness, and We bring you (O Muhammad) as a witness against these people.' (4.41) Then he said to me, "Stop!" Thereupon I saw his eyes overflowing with tears.

[Machine] That the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Recite the Quran to me." Ibn Mas'ood said, "O Messenger of Allah, should I recite the Quran to you when it was revealed upon you?" He said, "Indeed, I love to hear it from someone else." So he recited to him until he reached the verse, "So how [will it be] when We bring from every nation a witness and we bring you, [O Muhammad], against these [people] as a witness?" (Surah An-Nisa, verse 41). The eyes of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ filled with tears, and he said, "Whoever wants to recite the Quran as it was revealed should recite it according to the recitation of Ibn Umm 'Abd." This was narrated by 'Amr ibn Marzooq, the companions of Shu'bah, and it was transmitted by Sulayman ibn Harb.
