1.30 Obligation Toward the Legal Limits Set by the Sharīʿah (Law)

[Machine] From Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani: "Indeed, Allah has ordained obligations, so do not neglect them..." A good hadith narrated by Ad-Daraqutni and others.

the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah has set limits, so do not transgress them; He has decreed obligations, so do not neglect them; and He has forbidden certain things, so do not violate them; and your Lord has left some matters unspecified ˹intentionally˺ as a source of His Mercy upon you; so accept them ˹as is˺ and do not delve into them.

1.31 Asceticism in This World and its Benefits

[Machine] From Sahl ibn Saad al-Saadi: "Detach yourself from the world, and Allah will love you..." This is a good narration narrated by Ibn Majah and others with good chains of narrators.

“A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, show me a deed which, if I do it, Allah will love me and people will love me. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Be indifferent towards this world, and Allah will love you. Be indifferent to what is in people’s hands, and they will love you.”

1.32 Prohibition and Avoidance of Harm

[Machine] On the authority of Abu Said al-Khudri: "There should be no harm or reciprocating harm." This is a good Hadith narrated by Ibn Majah, Ad-Daraqutni, and others, with a connected chain of narrators. Malik also narrated it in "Al-Muwatta" from Amr ibn Yahya, from his father, as a sent message, omitting the attribution to Abu Said. And there are variations of its chain that strengthen each other.

Harm must not be caused nor reciprocated

(32) ibnmajah:2340ʿAbd Rabbih b. Khālid al-Numayrī Abū al-Mughallis > Fuḍayl b. Sulaymān > Mūsá b. ʿUqbah > Isḥāq b. Yaḥyá b. al-Walīd > ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit

“There should be neither harming nor reciprocating harm.”

(32-2) ahmad:2865ʿAbd al-Razzāq > Maʿmar > Jābir > ʿIkrimah > Ibn ʿAbbās

the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There should be no causing of harm or reciprocation of harm. A person is allowed to fix a wooden peg in the wall of his neighbor, and the width of a public pathway is seven cubits."

1.33 What Should be the Basis of Judgements

[Machine] From Ibn Abbas: "If people were given what they asked for, some men would claim the wealth and blood of others..." This is a good Hadith narrated by Al-Bayhaqi and others in a similar manner, and part of it is in the Sahihain (collection of authentic Hadiths).

(33) bayhaqi:21201Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. Aḥmad b. ʿAbdān > Aḥmad b. ʿUbayd al-Ṣaffār > Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad al-Firyābī > al-Ḥasan b. Sahl > ʿAbdullāh b. Idrīs > Ibn Jurayj And ʿUthmān b. al-Aswad > Ibn Abū Mulaykah > Kunt

[Machine] I was a judge for Ibn Zubayr in Taif, and he mentioned the story of the two women. So, I wrote to Ibn Abbas and he wrote back that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If people were given what they claimed, men would claim the wealth and blood of others. But the burden of proof is upon the claimant, and the oath is upon the one who denies, and he mentioned the hadith."

The burden of proof lies with the one making the claim

(33-2) bukhari:4552Naṣr b. ʿAlī b. Naṣr > ʿAbdullāh b. Dāwud > Ibn Jurayj > Ibn Abū Mulaykah

Two women were stitching shoes in a house or a room. Then one of them came out with an awl driven into her hand, and she sued the other for it. The case was brought before Ibn ʿAbbās, Ibn ʿAbbaاs said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If people were to be given what they claim ˹without the burden of proof˺ the life and property of the people would be lost." So remind her of Allah and recite before her: "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah... (Āl ʿImrān 3:77)" So they reminded her and she confessed. Ibn ʿAbbaاs then said: The Prophet ﷺ said, "The oath must be taken by the defendant."

The oath must be taken by the defendant

(33-3) muslim:1711aAbū al-Ṭāhir Aḥmad b. ʿAmr b. Sarḥ > Ibn Wahb > Ibn Jurayj > Ibn Abū Mulaykah > Ibn ʿAbbās

that the Prophet ﷺ said, "If the people were given according to their claims, they would claim the lives of persons and their properties, but the oath must be taken by the defendant."

1.34 Degrees of Ridding Evil

[Machine] On the authority of Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri: "Whoever amongst you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand..." Narrated by Muslim.

Prevent occurrences of evil and the least one can do is reject it in their heart

(34) muslim:49a[Chain 1] Abū Bakr b. Abū Shaybah > Wakīʿ > Sufyān [Chain 2] Muḥammad b. al-Muthanná > Muḥammad b. Jaʿfar > Shuʿbah > Qays b. Muslim > Ṭāriq b. Shihāb

It was Marwan who initiated (the practice) of delivering khutbah (address) before the prayer on the 'Id day. A man stood up and said: Prayer should precede khutbah. He (Marwan) remarked, This (practice) has been done away with. Upon this Abu Sa'id remarked: This man has performed (his duty) laid on him. I heard the Messenger of Allah as saying: He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart, and that is the least of faith.

(35) muslim:2564aʿAbdullāh b. Maslamah b. Qaʿnab > Dāwud / Ibn Qays > Abū Saʿīd a freed slave of ʿĀmir b. Kurayz > Abū Hurayrah

Don't nurse grudge and don't bid him out for raising the price and don't nurse aversion or enmity and don't enter into a transaction when the others have entered into that transaction and be as fellow-brothers and servants of Allah. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. He neither oppresses him nor humiliates him nor looks down upon him. The piety is here, (and while saying so) he pointed towards his chest thrice. It is a serious evil for a Muslim that he should look down upon his brother Muslim. All things of a Muslim are inviolable for his brother in faith: his blood, his wealth and his honour.

1.36 Taking Care of the Needs of Fellow Muslims and the Virtue of Seeking Knowledge

[Machine] Abu Hurairah narrated, "Whoever relieves a believer from a distress of this worldly life..." (Narrated by Muslim with this wording)

Rewards for those who help others in adversity and teach the Quran

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "(1) He who alleviates the suffering of a brother out of the sufferings of this world, Allah would alleviate his suffering from the sufferings of the Day of Resurrection, (2) and he who makes things easy for the hard-pressed, Allah would make things easy for him in the Hereafter, (3) and he who conceals ˹the faults˺ of a Muslim, Allah would conceal ˹his faults˺ in the world and in the Hereafter. (4) Allah is at the aid of a servant so long as the servant is at the aid of his brother."

"(5) and he who treads the path in search of knowledge, Allah will make the path to Paradise easy for him through it, (6) and those who assemble in a house among the houses of Allah (mosques), and recite the Book of Allah and they learn and teach the Quran to each other, there would descend upon them sakīnah (tranquility) and mercy would envelop them, and the angels would surround them, and Allah mentions them in the presence of those near Him, (7) and one who is held back in doing ˹good˺ deeds, his ˹noble˺ lineage will not make him go ahead."

1.37 Tremendous Leniency and Bounty of Allah Toward His Servants

[Machine] On the authority of Ibn Abbas, "Indeed, Allah has written the good deeds and the bad deeds, and then made that clear..." (Bukhari and Muslim)

A good deed is rewarded manifold while a bad deed is counted only as one

(37) bukhari:6491Abū Maʿmar > ʿAbd al-Wārith > Jaʿd Abū ʿUthmān > Abū Rajāʾ al-ʿUṭāridī > Ibn ʿAbbās

from the Prophet ﷺ narrating from his Lord said, "Allah has ordered that the good and the bad deeds be written down, and He then explained how ˹they be written down˺: (1) He who intends to do a good deed but he does not do it, then Allah records it for him as a full good deed, (2) but if he carries out his intention, then Allah ﷻ writes it down for him as from ten to seven hundredfolds, and even more. (3) But if he intends to do an evil act and has not done it, then Allah writes it down with Him as a full good deed, (4) but if he intends it and has done it, Allah writes it down as one bad deed."

(37-2) muslim:131aShaybān b. Farrūkh > ʿAbd al-Wārith > al-Jaʿd Abū ʿUthmān > Abū Rajāʾ al-ʿUṭāridī > Ibn ʿAbbās

Verily Allah recorded the good and the evil and then made it clear that he who intended good but did not do it, Allah recorded one complete good in his favour, but if he intended it and also did it, the Glorious and Great Allah recorded ten to seven hundred virtues and even more to his credit. But it he intended evil, but did not commit it, Allah wrote down full one good in his favour. If he intended that and also committed it, Allah made an entry of one evil against him.

1.38 Allah's Love Toward His Pious Servants and the Way to Become One

[Machine] Abu Hurayrah narrated that Allah the Almighty said, "Whoever opposes or disrespects my close friend, I declare war against him..." Narrated by Al-Bukhari.

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah said, 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved things with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection (Refuge), I will protect him; (i.e. give him My Refuge) and I do not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for he hates death, and I hate to disappoint him."

1.42 Enormity of Allah's ﷻ Forgiveness

[Machine] On the authority of Anas ibn Malik: "Allah, the Most High, said: 'O son of Adam, as long as you call upon Me and put your hope in Me...' Al-Tirmidhi narrated it and said: 'It is a good Hadith.'"

Vastness of the Forgiveness of Allah as long as one does not commit shirk

(42) tirmidhi:3540ʿAbdullāh b. Isḥāq al-Jawharī al-Baṣrī > Abū ʿĀṣim > Kathīr b. Fāʾid > Saʿīd b. ʿUbayd > Bakr b. ʿAbdullāh al-Muzanī > Anas b. Mālik

I heard the Messenger of Allah say, “Allah ﷻ said: 'O son of Adam! As long as you call upon Me and have hope in ˹meeting˺ Me, I will forgive you despite whatever may have occurred from you and I do not mind; O son of Adam! If your sins reach the clouds in the sky and then you seek forgiveness from Me, I will forgive you and I do not mind; O son of Adam! If you come to me with sins as great as the earth and then you meet Me not associating anything with Me, I will come to you with forgiveness as great as it.’”
