We set out from our tribe Ghafir who look upon the prohibited months as permissible months. I and my brother Unais and our mother stayed with our maternal uncle who treated us well. The men of his tribe fell jealous and they said: When you are anay from your house, Unais commits adultery with your wife. Our -naternal uncle came and he accused us of the sin which was conveyed to him. I said: You have undone the good you did to us. We cannot stay with you after this. We came to our camels and loaded (our) luggage. Our maternal uncle began to weep covering himself with (a piece of) cloth. We proceeded on until we encamped by the side of Mecca. Unais cast lot on the camels (we had) and an equal number (above that). They both went to a Kahin and he made Unais win and Unais came with our camels and an equal number along with them. He (Abu Dharr) said: My nephew, I used to observe prayer three years before my meeting with Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I said: For whom did you say prayer? He said: For Allah. I said: To which direction did you turn your face (for observing prayer)? He said: I used to turn my face as Allah has directed me to turn my face. I used to observe the night prayer at the time of the end of night and I fell down in prostration like the mantle until the sun rose over me. Unais said: I have a work in Mecca, so you better stay here. Unais went until he came to Mecca and he came to me late. I said: What did you do? He said: I met a person in Mecca who is on your religion and he claims that verily it is Allah Who has sent him. I said: What do the people say about him? He said: They say that he is a poet or a Kahin or a magician. Unais who was himself one of the poets said. I have heard the words of a Kahin but his words in no way resemble his (words). And 1 also compared his words to the verses of poets but such words cannot be uttered by any poet. By Allah, he is truthful and they are liars. Then I said: you stay here, until I go, so that I should see him. He said: I came to Mecca and I selected an insignificant person from amongst them and said to him: Where is he whom you call as-Sabi? He pointed out towards me saying: He is Sabi. Thereupon the people of the valley attacked me with sods and bows until I fell down unconscious. I stood up after havin. regained my consciousness and I found as if I was a red idol. I came to Zamzarn and washed blood from me and drank water from it and listen, O son of my brother, I stayed there for thirty nights or days and there was no food for me but the water of Zamzarn. And I became so bulky that there appeared wrinkles upon my stomach, and I did not feel any hunger in my stomach. It was during this time that the people of Mecca slept in the moonlit night and none was there to eircumambulate the House but only two women who had been invoking the name of Isafa, and Na'ila (the two idols). They came to me while in their circuit and I said: Marry one with the other, but they did not dissuade from their invoking. They came to me and I said to them: Insert wood (in the idols' private parts). (I said this to them in such plain words) as I could not express in metaphorical terms. These women went away crying and saying: Had there been one amongst our people (he would have taught a lesson to you for the obscene words used for our idols before us). These women met Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr who had also been coming down the hill. He asked them: What has happened to you? They said: There is Sabi, who has hidden himself between the Ka'ba and its curtain. He said: What did he say to you? They said: He uttered such words before us as we cannot express. Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and he kissed the Black Stone and circumambulated the House along with his Companion and then observed prayer, and when he had finished his prayer, Abu Dharr said: I was the first to greet him with the salutation of peace and uttered (these words) in this way; Allah's Messen- ger, may there be peace upon you, whereupon he said: It may be upon you too and the mercy of Allah. He then said: Who are you? I said: From the tribe of Ghifar. He leaned his hand and placed his finger on his forehead and I said to myself: Perhaps he has not liked it that I belong to the tribe of Ghifar. I attempted to catch hold of his hand but his friend who knew about him more than I dissuaded me f rom doing so. He then lifted his head and said: Since how long have you been here? I said: I have been here for the last thirty nights or days. He said: Who has been feeding you? I said: There has been no food for me but the water of Zamzam. I have grown so bulky that there appear wrinkles upon my stomach and I do not feel any hunger. He said: It is blessed (water) and it also serves as food. Thereupon Abu Bakr said: Messenger of Allah, let me serve as a host to him for tonight, and then Messenger of Allah ﷺ proceeded forth and so did Abu Bakr and I went along with them. Abu Bakr opened the door and then he brought for us the raisins of Ta'if and that was the first food which I ate there. Then I stayed as long as I had to stay. I then came to Allah's Messenaer ﷺ and he said: I have been shown the land abound- ing in trees and I think it cannot be but that of Yathrib (that is the old name of Medina). You are a preacher to your people on my behalf. I hope Allah would benefit them through you and He would reward you. I came to Unais and he said: What have you done? I said: I have done that I have embraced Islam and I have testified (to the prophethood of Messenger of Allah). He said: I have no aversion for your religion and I also embrace Islam and testify (to the prophethood of Muhammad). Then both of us came to our mother and she said: I have no aversion for your religion and I also embrace Islam and testify to the prophethood of Muhammad. We then loaded our camels and came to our tribe Ghifir and half of the tribe embraced Islam and their chief was Aimi' b. Rahada Ghifirl and he was their leader and hall of the tribe said: We will embrace Islam when Messenger of Allah (may p,. ace be upon him) would come to Medina, and when Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Medina the remaining half also embraced Islam. Then a tribe Aslam came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, we also embrace Islam like our brothers who have embraced Islam. And they also embraced Islam. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah granted pardon to the tribe of Ghifar and Allah saved (from destruction) the tribe of Aslam. (Using translation from Muslim 2473a)

[Machine] "I was the fourth to embrace Islam before me, three people had already accepted it. When I came to the Prophet ﷺ, I greeted him saying, 'peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.' I saw joy on the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he asked, 'Who are you?' I replied, 'I am Jundub, a man from the tribe of Ghifar.'"
[Machine] "For me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The less grammar is used, the clearer the meaning and expression. No one can rival the eloquence and fidelity of Abi Dhar in resembling Jesus son of Mary among our Prophets, peace be upon them.' Umar ibn al-Khattab stood up and asked, 'O Prophet of Allah, do we know who that is?' He said, 'Yes, recognize him.'"
[Machine] "To me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do you understand Syriac?'. I said, 'No'. He said, 'Learn it, for indeed it is coming to us in books.' He said, 'So I learned it in seventeen days.' Al-A'mash said, 'Books would come to him that no one would desire to look at except for those who trusted him.'"
that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The most merciful of my nation to my nation is Abu Bakr, and the most severe of them concerning the order of Allah is 'Umar, and the most truly modest of them is 'Uthman bin 'Affan. The best reciter (of the Qur'an) among them is Ubayy bin Ka'b, the most knowledgeable of them concerning (the laws of) inheritance is Zaid bin Thabit, the most knowledgeable of them concerning the lawful and the unlawful is Mu'adh bin Jabal. Truly, every nation has a trustworthy one, and the trustworthy one of this nation is Abu 'Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3791)
[Machine] "That his father died and left behind nine daughters or seven daughters. So I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he asked me, 'Did you get married, O Jabir?' I said, 'Yes.' He asked, 'A virgin or a previously married?' I said, 'Rather previously married.' He said, 'So why don't you marry a young girl who will play with you, and you will play with her, and she will make you laugh, and you will make her laugh?' So I said, 'Indeed, Abdullah died and left behind nine daughters or seven daughters, and I dislike marrying them to someone like themselves, and I want a woman who can take care of them.' He said to me, 'May Allah bless you.'"

"My father died owing debts. I offered to his creditors that they could take the fruits in lieu of what he owed them, but they refused as they thought that it would not cover the debt. I went to the Messenger of Allah and told him about that, he said: 'When you pick the dates and have put them in the Mirbad (place for drying dates), call me.' When I had picked the dates and put them in the Mirbad, I went to the Messenger of Allah and he came, accompanied by Abu Bakr and 'Umar. He sat on (the dates) and prayed for blessing. Then he said: 'Call your creditors and pay them off.' I did not leave anyone to whom my father owed anything but I paid him off, and I had thirteen Wasqs left over. I mentioned that to him and he smiled and said: 'Go to Abu Bakr and 'Umar and tell them about that.' So I went to Abu Bakr and 'Umar and told them about that, and they said: 'We knew, when the Messenger of Allah did what he did, that this would happen.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3640)

[Machine] I was on a journey with the Prophet ﷺ while I was riding. He was behind most of the people, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ struck him with something he had with him. After that, he began to move ahead of the people, urging me to catch up with him until I reached him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Are you selling me for such and such? By Allah, He will forgive you." I said, "It is for you, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Are you selling it to me for such and such? By Allah, He will forgive you." I said, "It is for you, O Messenger of Allah."
[Machine] We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and he said, "Would you sell me this provision (nadīḥak) when we reach Madinah, if Allah wills, for one dinar? And Allah shall forgive you." I said, "Is it your provision, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Sell it to me when we reach Madinah, if Allah wills, for two dinars." I said, "It is your provision, O Messenger of Allah." He continued to say this until it reached twenty dinars. He kept saying, "And Allah shall forgive you." When we reached Madinah, I brought it to him, and I said, "Here is your provision, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "O Bilal, give him twenty dinars from the booty and return his provision to his family."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ sought forgiveness for me on the night of Al-Ba'ir twenty-five times.

Verily Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, has commanded me to recite the Qur'an to you, whereupon he said: (Has) Allah mentioned my name to you? He said: Allah has mentioned your name to me. Thereupon he began to shed tears (of joy) (Using translation from Muslim 799d)

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Hassan, "Indeed, the Holy Spirit is with you as long as you do not argue with them."

I adjure you by Allah if you had not heard Allah's Apostle ﷺ saying: Hassin, give a reply on behalf of the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, help him with Ruh-ul-Qudus. Abu Huraira said: Yes, it is so. (Using translation from Muslim 2485c)
[Machine] Khuzaymah bin Thabit bin Khuzaymah bin Thabit informed me that the Prophet ﷺ made his testimony equivalent to the testimony of two men that Khuzaymah bin Thabit saw in his dream that he prostrated on the forehead of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So Khuzaymah came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ leaned towards him and said, "Your vision is true." Then he prostrated on the forehead of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

[Machine] While I was traveling at night, I came across a man who was performing the act of tasbih (saying "Subhanallah"). I asked him, "Who is this person who is performing tasbih?" He replied, "Abu Hurairah." I then asked, "Why is he performing tasbih?" He said, "Out of gratitude." I asked, "Gratitude for what?" He answered, "Gratitude for the fact that I used to serve Busrat, the daughter of Ghazwan, by carrying her belongings and providing for her sustenance. When the people would ride their camels, I would give them water, and when they would stop, I would serve them. Allah then blessed me with her, and she became my wife. So now, whenever the people ride, I ride, and whenever they stop, I serve."

[Machine] So I walked a short distance until I became tired. Suddenly, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appeared in front of me and said, "O Abu Hurairah!" I replied, "At your service, O Messenger of Allah, and may my life be sacrificed for you." He then took my hand and stood me up, recognizing who I was. He then proceeded towards his camel and commanded for a cup of milk to be brought to me. I drank it, and then he said, "Come back, O Abu Hurairah." I returned and drank until my stomach was full and it resembled a pot. I then saw Umar and remembered the question I had in mind. I asked him, "Who is more deserving of this honor, O Umar, you or me? By Allah, I have memorized this verse before you." Umar replied, "By Allah, for me to have brought you into Islam is more beloved to me than having the red camels."

that the heard Abu Hurairah say: "None of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ narrated more Ahadith from him than me, except 'Abdullah bin 'Amr. For he used to write them down and I did not write." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2668)
People say that Abu Huraira transmits so many ahadith, whereas Allah is the Reckoner, and they say: How is it with Muhajirs and the Ansar that they do not narrate ahadith like him (like Abu Huraira)? Abu Huraira said: I tell you that my brothers from Ansar remained busy with their lands and my brothers Muhajirs were busy in transactions in the bazars, but I always kept myself attached to Messenger of Allah ﷺ with bare subsistence. I remained present (in the company of the Holy Prophet), whereas they had been absent. I retained in my mind (what the Prophet said), whereas they forgot it. One day Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: He who amongst you spreads the cloth and listens to my talk and would then press it against his chest would never forget anything heard from me. So I spread my mantle and when he had concluded his talk I then pressed it against my chest and so I never forgot after that day anything that he (the Holy Prophet) said. And if these two verses would not have been revealed in the Book I would have never transmitted anything (to anybody):" Those who conceal the clear evidence and the guidance that We revealed" (ii. 159) tip to the last verse. (Using translation from Muslim 2492c)

I invited my mother, who was a polytlieist, to Islam. I invited her one day and she said to me something about Messenger of Allah ﷺ which I hated. I came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ weeping and said: Messenger of Allah, I invited my mother to Islam but she did not accept (my invitation). I invited her today but she said to me something which I did not like. (Kindly) supplicate Allah that He may set the mother of Abu Huraira right. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O Allah, set the mother of Abu Huraira on the right path. I came out quite pleased with the supplication of Allah's Apostle ﷺ and when I came near the door it was closed from within. My mother heard the noise of my footsteps and she said: Abu Huraira, just wait. And I heard the noise of falling of water. She took a bath and put on the shirt and quickly covered her head with a headdress and opened the door and then said: Abu Huraira, I bear witness to the fact that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His bondsman and His Messenger. He (Abu Huraira) said: I went back to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and (this time) I was shedding the tears of joy. I said: Messenger of Allah, be happy, for Allah has responded to your supplication and He has set on the right path the mother of Abu Huraira. He (the Holy Prophet) praised Allah, and extolled Him and uttered good words. I said: Messenger of Allah, supplicate to Allah so that He may instill love of mine and that of my mother too in the believing servants and let our hearts be filled with their love, whereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O Allah, let there be love of these servants of yours, i.e. Abu Huraira and his mother, in the hearts of the believing servants and let their hearts be filled with the love of the believing servants. (Abu Huraira said: This prayer) was so well granted by Allah that no believer was ever born who heard of me and who saw me but did not love me. (Using translation from Muslim 2491)

So, command him to give it to me, and I will let him keep my wall." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Give it to him, and you will have a palm tree in Paradise." The man refused, so Abu ad-Dahhak came to him and said, "Sell me your palm tree for my wall." The man agreed, so Abu ad-Dahhak went to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have bought his palm tree in exchange for my wall. So, give it to him." The Prophet ﷺ said, "How many sweet dates will there be for Abu ad-Dahhak in Paradise!" He repeated this several times. Then, Abu ad-Dahhak went to his wife and said, "O mother of ad-Dahhak, leave the wall, for I have sold it in exchange for a palm tree in Paradise." She said, "The price is a good one."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called him and said, "I have been informed that Ibn Safwan ibn Nubayh al-Hudhali has gathered people to support me while he is near a date palm or a cluster of dates, so go to him." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, describe him to me so that I may recognize him." He said, "One of the signs between you and him is that when you see him, you will find a shiver down your spine." He said, "So I set out with my sword wrapped around me until I came to him while he was in a shady place which he usually visited at the time of Asr prayer. When I saw him, I found exactly what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had described to me. So I approached him and feared that there might be some attempt to distract me from the prayer, so I prayed while walking towards him and nodded with my head. When I finished the prayer, I went up to him and he said, "Who is it?" I said, "A man from the Arabs who heard about you and your gathering for this man and came for that reason." He said, "It is indeed me." So I walked with him for a while until it was possible for me to seize him with my sword, so I killed him. Then I came and left his belongings piled up around him. When I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he saw me, he said, "The face has succeeded." I said, "I killed him, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "You have spoken the truth." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up with me and took me to his house and gave me a stick and said, "Keep this stick with you, O Abdullah ibn Unays." He said, "So I went out with it among the people, and they said, "What is this stick?" I said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave it to me and ordered me to keep it." They said, "Why don't you return to the Messenger of Allah and ask him about it?" He said, "So I went back to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, why did you give me this stick?" He said, "It is a sign between you and me on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed, the least of people on that day will be those who are too short." So Abdullah linked it to his sword and it remained with him until his death. Then he (the Prophet) ordered that it be buried with him in his shroud, and so we were all buried together.

[Machine] Abdullah ibn Salam went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he first arrived in Medina and said, "I have three questions that only a prophet knows." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Ask." Abdullah asked, "What is the first sign of the Hour or the first thing that will happen at the Hour? What do the people of Paradise eat? And what causes a child to resemble his father or his mother?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Jibril informed me about them earlier." Jibril said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "That is one of the enemies of the Jews from the angels." The Prophet ﷺ continued, "As for the first sign of the Hour or the first thing that will happen at the Hour, it is a fire that will come out of the East and drive people to the West. As for what the people of Paradise eat, it is the additional lobe of the liver of a fish. And as for what causes a child to resemble his father or mother, when the water of the man precedes the water of the woman, the child resembles the father, and when the water of the woman precedes the water of the man, the child resembles the mother." Abdullah said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that you are the Messenger of Allah." Abdullah said, "O Messenger of Allah, the Jews are a confused people. If they come to know about my conversion to Islam before the others, a group of them will accompany me and ask them which one among them is Abdullah ibn Salam." They would respond, "The best and most knowledgeable among us." Abdullah went back to them and said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah." They said, "Woe to us, he is the most evil among us." Abdullah said, "This is the person I was afraid of them realizing."

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ and I went together until we entered the synagogue of the Jews in the city on their holiday, but they did not like our entry. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "O assembly of Jews, show me twelve men who bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah, and Allah will remove His anger from any Jew beneath the sky." None of them answered him, so he repeated his request three times, and no one answered him. Then he said, "You have refused, so by Allah, I am the gatherer, the last to live, and the one who will strike with punishment. Have you believed or denied?" Then he left and I was with him until he was about to leave, when a man from behind us said, "As you are, O Muhammad." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who are you, O Jews?" They said, "We do not know of any person among us who is more knowledgeable about the Book of Allah than you, nor more understanding than you or your father before you, or your grandfather before your father." He said, "Then I bear witness for him with Allah that he is the Messenger of Allah whom you find written in the Torah." They said, "You have lied." Then they rejected him and said evil things to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, "You have lied, and your words will not be accepted. As for now, you praise him with good words when he does something good, but when he believes, you deny him and say what you do not say. Your words will not be accepted." Then we left, and we were three: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , Abdullah ibn Salam, and I. Then Allah revealed in this regard the verse: "Say, 'Have you considered: if it is from Allah and you disbelieved in it...?'" (Surah Al-An'am, 6:35).

I have never heard the Prophet ﷺ saying about anybody walking on the earth that he is from the people of Paradise except ʿAbdullah bin Salam. The following Verse was revealed concerning him: "And a witness from the children of Israel testifies that this Qur'an is true" (46.10) (Using translation from Bukhārī 3812)

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ was brought a bowl, and we drank from it. It overflowed with blessings, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A man will emerge from this valley who will eat from this bowl among the people of Paradise." Saad said, "I left my brother Umair to perform ablution, thinking he is my brother." Then Abdullah ibn Salam came and ate from it.

I was sitting in a circle in the mosque of Medina and there was an old man, quite handsome. He was 'Abdullah b. Salim. He was telling good things to them (to the people sitting in that company). As he stood up (to depart) the people said: He who is desirous of looking at a person from amongst the people of Paradise should see him. I said: By Allah, I will follow him, and would try to know his residence. So I followed him and he walked on until he reached the outskirts of Medina. He then entered his house. I sought permission from him to get in, and he granted me the permission, saying: My nephew, what is the need (that has brought you here)? I said to him: As you stood up, I heard people say about you: He who is desirous of seeing a person from among the people of Paradise should look at him. So I became desirous of accompanying you. He ('Abdullah b. Salim) said: It is Allah Who knows best about the people of Paradise. I would, however, narrate to you as to why they said like it. (The story is) that while I was asleep (one night) there came to me a person (in the dream) who asked me to stand up. (So I stood up) and he caught hold of my hand and I walked along with him, and, lo, I found some paths on my left and I was about to set out upon them. Thereupon he said to me Do not set yourself on (them) for these are the paths of the leftists (denizens of Hell-fire). Then there were paths leading to the right side, whereupon he said: Set yourself on these paths. We came across a hill and he said to me: Climb up, and I attempted to climb up that I fell upon my buttocks. I made several attempts (but failed to succeed). He led until he came to a pillar (so high) that its upper end touched the sky and its base was in the earth. And there was a handhold at its upper end. He said to me Climb over it. I said: How can I climb upon it, as its upper end touches the sky? He cought hold of my hand and pushed me up and I found myself suspended with the handhold. He then struck the pillar and it fell down, but I remained attached to that handhold until it was morning (and the dream was thus over). I came to Allah's Apostle ﷺ and narrated it to him. He said: So far as the paths which you saw on your left are concerned, these are paths of the leftists (denizens of Hell) and the paths which you saw on your right, these are the paths of the rightists (the dwellers of Paradise) and the mountain represents the destination of the martyrs which you would not be able to attain. The pillar implies the pillar of Islam. and so far as the handhold is concerned, it implies the handhold of Islam, and you would hold to it fastly until you would meet death. [Machine] When this verse was revealed: "O you who have believed, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet or be loud to him in speech" (Quran 49:2), Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammas was sitting in his house. He said, "I am the one who used to raise my voice and speak loudly to him, and I am one of the people of Hellfire." The Prophet ﷺ missed him, so they informed him about it, and he said, "Rather, he is one of the people of Paradise." Anas said, "So we used to see him walking among us, knowing that he is from the people of Paradise. Abu Talha was the one among the Ansar of Medina who possessed the largest property and among his property he valued most was his garden known as Bairaha' which was opposite the mosque, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ often visited it and he drank of its sweet water. When this verse was revealed: "You will never attain righteousness till you give freely of what you love" (iii. 91), Abu Talha got up and, going to Messenger of Allah ﷺ, said: Allah says in His Book: "You will never attain righteousness till you give freely of what you love," and the dearest of my property is Bairaha' so I give it as Sadaqa to God from Whom I hope for reward for it and the treasure with Allah; so spend it, Messenger of Allah, on whatever purpose you deem it proper. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Well done! that is a profitable deal, that is a profitable deal. I have heard what you have said, but I think you should spend it on your nearest relatives. So Abu Talha distributed it among the nearest relatives and his cousins on his father's side. (Using translation from Muslim 998a)
