ذِكْرُ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ؓ

The Prophet ﷺ said to Ubai, "Allah has ordered me recite Qur'an to you." Ubai asked, "Did Allah mention me by name to you?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah has mentioned your name to me." On that Ubai started weeping. (The sub-narrator) Qatada added: I have been informed that the Prophet ﷺ recited: 'Those who disbelieve among the people of the Scripture," ...to Ubai.

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لأُبَىٍّ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ قَالَ أُبَىٌّ آللَّهُ سَمَّانِي لَكَ قَالَ اللَّهُ سَمَّاكَ لِي فَجَعَلَ أُبَىٌّ يَبْكِي قَالَ قَتَادَةُ فَأُنْبِئْتُ أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ عَلَيْهِ {لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ}

Allah's Prophet said to Ubai bin Kaʿb, "Allah has ordered me to recite Qur'an to you." Ubai said, "Did Allah mention me by name to you?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes." Ubai said, "Have I been mentioned by the Lord of the Worlds?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes." Then Ubai burst into tears.

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُقْرِئَكَ الْقُرْآنَ قَالَ آللَّهُ سَمَّانِي لَكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ وَقَدْ ذُكِرْتُ عِنْدَ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَذَرَفَتْ عَيْنَاهُ

Allah has commanded me to recite the Qur'an to you. He said: Did Allah mention me to you by name? He (the Holy Prophet) said: Allah made a mention of your name to me. (On hearing this) Ubayy b. Ka'b wept.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لأُبَىٍّ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ قَالَ آللَّهُ سَمَّانِي لَكَ قَالَ اللَّهُ سَمَّاكَ لِي قَالَ فَجَعَلَ أُبَىٌّ يَبْكِي

Allah has commanded me to recite to you:" Those who disbelieve were not..." (al-Qur'an, xcviii. 1). He said: Did He mention me by name? He (the Prophet said): Yes. Upon this he shed tears (of gratitude).

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ { لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا} قَالَ وَسَمَّانِي لَكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَبَكَى

Verily Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, has commanded me to recite the Qur'an to you, whereupon he said: (Has) Allah mentioned my name to you? He said: Allah has mentioned your name to me. Thereupon he began to shed tears (of joy)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لأُبَىٍّ إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ قَالَ آللَّهُ سَمَّانِي لَكَ قَالَ اللَّهُ سَمَّاكَ لِي قَالَ فَجَعَلَ أُبَىٌّ يَبْكِي

I have been commanded to recite to you the Sura (al- Bayyinah) which opens with these words (Lam Yakunil-ladhiyna Kafaruu) He said: Has he mentioned to you my name? He said: Yes; thereupon he shed tears of joy.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ { لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا} قَالَ وَسَمَّانِي قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَبَكَى

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Ubayy bin Ka'b: "Indeed Allah ordered me to recite to you: Those who disbelieve were not going to... (98:1) He said: "And He named me?" He said: "Yes." So he wept.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ ( لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ) قَالَ وَسَمَّانِي قَالَ نَعَمْ فَبَكَى

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said to Ubay ibn Ka'b, "My Lord has commanded me to recite the Quran to you." Ubay asked, "Has your Lord mentioned me by name?" The Prophet replied, "Yes." Upon hearing this, Ubay began to cry.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لِأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ أَمَرَنِي رَبِّي أَنْ أَقْرَأَعَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ قَالَ أُبَيٌّ أَوَسَمَّانِي لَكَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَبَكَى أُبَيٌّ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Ubayy bin Ka'b: "Indeed Allah ordered me to recite to you: Those who disbelieve were not going to... (98:1) He said: "And He named me?" He said: "Yes." So he wept. (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3792)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ إِنَّ اللهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ {لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا} [البينة 1] قَالَ وَسَمَّانِي لَكَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَبَكَى

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ called Ubayy and said, "Verily, Allah has commanded me to recite to you." Ubayy asked, "Did Allah name me specifically?" The Prophet replied, "Yes, Allah named you for me." Then Ubayy began to cry.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ دَعَا أُبَيًّا فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ فَقَالَ سَمَّانِي لَكَ؟ قَالَ اللهُ سَمَّاكَ لِي فَجَعَلَ يَبْكِي

Allah's Prophet said to Ubai bin Kaʿb, "Allah has ordered me to recite Qur'an to you." Ubai said, "Did Allah mention me by name to you?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes." Ubai said, "Have I been mentioned by the Lord of the Worlds?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Yes." Then Ubai burst into tears. (Using translation from Bukhārī 4961)

أَنَّ نَبِيَّ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لِأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ إِنَّ اللهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُقْرِئَكَ الْقُرْآنَ أَوْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ قَالَ آللَّهُ سَمَّانِي لَكَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ قَدْ ذُكِرْتُ عِنْدَ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَذَرَفَتْ عَيْنَاهُ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said to Ubayy, "Indeed, Allah has commanded me to recite upon you." Ubayy replied, "Did Allah mention me by name?" The Prophet replied, "Yes, Allah mentioned you by name." Ubayy began to sob in his narration.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لِأُبَيٍّ إِنَّ اللهَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَقْرَأَ عَلَيْكَ فَقَالَ أُبَيٌّ آللَّهُ سَمَّانِي لَكَ؟ قَالَ اللهُ سَمَّاكَ لِي قَالَ بَهْزٌ فِي حَدِيثِهِ فَجَعَلَ يَبْكِي

" عَنْ أَنَسٍ أنَّ رسولَ الله ﷺ قَالَ لأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ: أمَرنِى رَبِّى أنْ أقْرَأ عَلَيْكَ، قَالَ: وَسَمَّانِى لَكَ؟ قَالَ: وَسَمَّاكَ لِى، فَبَكَى أُبَىٌّ، فَزَعَمُوا أنَّهُ قَرَأَ علَيْه لَمْ يَكُنْ ".

" عَنْ أنَسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ لأُبَىِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ: إنَّ الله أَمَرَني أنْ أَقْرَأ علَيْكَ: {لَمْ يَكُنِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا} (*)، قَالَ: وَسَمَّانِى؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَبَكَى".
