59. Book of Virtues of the Companions
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I am your share from the prophets and you are my share from the nations."
When Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, intends to show mercy to an Umma from amongst His servants He calls back His Apostle to his eternal home and makes him a harbinger and recompense in the world to come; and when He intends to cause destruction to an Umma, He punishes it while its Apostle is alive and He destroys it as he (the Apostle) witnesses it and he cools his eyes by destruction as they had belied him and disobeyed his command. (Using translation from Muslim 2288)
that about Allah's saying: Thus we have made you a Wasata nation (2:143) - the Prophet ﷺ said: "The meaning of Wasata is just." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2961)
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Your period (i.e. the Muslims' period) in comparison to the periods of the previous nations, is like the period between the ʿAsr prayer and sunset. And your example in comparison to the Jews and the Christians is like the example of a person who employed some laborers and asked them, 'Who will work for me till midday for one Qirat each?' The Jews worked for half a day for one Qirat each. The person asked, 'Who will do the work for me from midday to the time of the ʿAsr (prayer) for one Qirat each?' The Christians worked from midday till the ʿAsr prayer for one Qirat. Then the person asked, 'Who will do the work for me from the ʿAsr till sunset for two Qirats each?' " The Prophet ﷺ added, "It is you (i.e. Muslims) who are doing the work from the ʿAsr till sunset, so you will have a double reward. The Jews and the Christians got angry and said, 'We have done more work but got less wages.' Allah said, 'Have I been unjust to you as regards your rights?' They said, 'No.' So Allah said, 'Then it is My Blessing which I bestow on whomever I like. " (Using translation from Bukhārī 3459)
Allah has forgiven for me my nation their mistakes and forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2043)
"When Allah revealed this Ayah: 'Say: He has the power to send torment on you from above or from under your feet...' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'I seek refuge in Your Face.' So when (the following) was revealed: 'Or to cover you in confusion in party strife, and make you taste the violence of one another (6:65).' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'This is less burdensome' or 'This is easier.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3065)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say while he was standing on the pulpit, "Indeed, your remaining in [this world] is only for the sake of those who came before you, just like the time between the Asr prayer and the sunset. The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted upon it until they were incapable [of following it]. Then they were given a qirat after qirat. The people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted upon it until they reached the time of the Asr prayer. Then they were given a qirat after qirat. And you were given the Qur'an and you acted upon it until the sunset. Then you were given two qirats after two qirats." The people of the Torah and the Gospel said, "Our Lord, these [Muslims] did less in their actions than us and they have greater reward." Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, said, "Have you been deprived of anything from your rights?" They said, "No." He said, "Then it is My favor that I bestow upon whomever I will."
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, 'Which of the people are best?' He said: 'My generation, then those that follow them, then those that follow them. Then there will come people whose testimony precedes their oath and whose oath precedes their testimony.” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2362)
[Machine] "The Prophet ﷺ was visited by Gabriel or an angel, who asked, 'How are the people of Badr among you?' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'They are the most virtuous among us.' The angel said, 'Similarly, those who were present with us from the angels are also like that.'"
[Machine] He said, "Some dates and dried dates were brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they ate from them until nothing was left except the seed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, 'Do you know what this is?' They replied, 'Allah and His Messenger know best.' He said, 'You are consuming the good part and leaving the best part, until nothing remains of you except like this.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "The example of my nation is like the rain, it is not known whether its beginning is good or its end."
The best of my Umma would be those of the generation nearest to mine. Then those nearest to them, then those nearest to them, then people would come whose witness would precede the oath and the oath will precede the witness. Hannad has not made the mention of Qarn in his narration. Qutaiba said that, instead of the word Qaum, the word Aqwam has been used. (Using translation from Muslim 2533a)
The Prophet ﷺ said, "The best people are those of my generation, and then those who will come after them (the next generation), and then those who will come after them (i.e. the next generation), and then after them, there will come people whose witness will precede their oaths, and whose oaths will precede their witness." (Using translation from Bukhārī 6429)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of people are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them, then those who follow them."

[Machine] About the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, a man said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, glad tidings to whoever sees you and believes in you." He replied, "Glad tidings to whoever sees me, believes in me, and glad tidings, then glad tidings to whoever believes in me without seeing me."
The people most loved by me from amongst my Ummah would be those who would come after me but everyone amongst them would have the keenest desire to catch a glimpse of me even at the cost of his family and wealth. (Using translation from Muslim 2832)

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited the words of Allah, Most High, regarding Ibrahim: "Indeed, they have misled many among the people. So whoever follows me - indeed, he is of me; and whoever disobeys me - indeed, You are [yet] Forgiving and Merciful." And Isa said: "If You should punish them - indeed they are Your servants." So Allah commanded him to go to Muhammad ﷺ and ask him why he weeps. Gabriel went to him and asked him. He informed him of what Allah said, and Allah knows best. [Machine] I accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a prayer, which he performed until it was close to dawn. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer, Khalid bin Walid came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I swear by my father and mother, you have prayed tonight a prayer that I have never witnessed you pray before." The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Indeed, it was a prayer of desire and fear. I asked my Lord for three things, and He granted me two and prevented me from one. I asked Him not to destroy us as He destroyed the nations before us, so He granted my request. I asked Him not to subject us to an enemy other than ourselves, so He granted my request. And I asked Him not to make us divided, so He prevented me from it."

I asked my Lord three things and He has granted me two but has withheld one. I begged my Lord that my Ummah should not be destroyed because of famine and He granted me this. And I begged my Lord that my Ummah should not be destroyed by drowning (by deluge) and He granted me this. And I begged my Lord that there should be no bloodshed among the people of my Ummah, but He did not grant it. (Using translation from Muslim 2890a)

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: Allah, the Exalted, folded for me the earth, or he said (the narrator is doubtful): My Lord folded for me the earth, so much so that I saw its easts and wests (i.e. the extremities). The kingdom of my community will reach as far as the earth was floded for me. The two treasures, the red and the white, were bestowed on me. I prayed to my Lord that He may not destroy my community by prevailing famine, and not give their control to an enemy who annihilates then en masse except from among themselves. My Lord said to me: Muhammad, If I make a decision, it is not withdrawn ; and I shall not destroy them by prevailing famine, and I shall not give their control to an enemy, except from among themselves, who exterminates them en masse, even if they are stormed from all sides of the earth ; only a section of them will destroy another section, and a section will captive another section. I am afraid about my community of those leaders who will lead astray. When the sword is used among my people, it will not be withdrawn from them till the Day of Resurrection, and the Last Hour will not come before the tribes of my people attach themselves to the polytheists and tribes of my people worship idols. There will be among my people thirty great liars each of them asserting that he is (Allah's) prophet, where as I am the seal of the Prophet s after whom (me) there will be no prophet ; and a section of my people will continue to hold to the truth - (according to the Ibn Isa's version: (will continue to dominate) - the agreed version goes: "and will not be injured by those who oppose them, till Allah's command comes."
