13. Book of Pilgrimage (Ḥajj) (7/7)
‘Abd Allah bin Abbas said Al Fadl bin Abbas was riding the Camel behind the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ. A woman of the tribe of Khath’am came seeking his (the Prophet’s) decision (about a problem relating to Hajj). Al Fadl began to look at her and she too began to look at him. The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ would turn the face of Fadl to the other side. She said Apostle of Allaah ﷺ Allaah’s commandment that His servants should perform Hajj has come when my father is an old man and is unable to sit firmly on a Camel. May I perform Hajj on his behalf? He said yes, That was at the Farewell Pilgrimage. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1809)

[Machine] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ : "O Messenger of Allah, my father embraced Islam when he was old and weak. If I were to take him on a journey, I fear that I would end up causing his death. And if I don't take him, he won't be able to perform the obligations of Hajj. Should I perform Hajj on his behalf?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "Have you ever thought if your father had a debt, would you pay it off for him?" The man replied, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Then perform Hajj on his behalf."

Ibn 'Umar wanted to perform Hajj in the year when Al-Hajjaj was besieging Ibn Az-Zubair, and it was said to him: "It seems that there will be fighting between them, and I am afraid that you will prevented from performing Hajj." He said: "In the messenger of Allah you have a good example. I am going to do what the Messenger of Allah did. I bear witness to you that I have resolved to perform 'Umrah." Then he set out, and when he was in Zahir Al-Baida, he said: "Hajj and Umrah are the same thing; I bear witness to you that I have resolved to perform Hajj with my 'Umrah." And he brought along a Hadi (sacrificial animal) that he had bought in Qudaid. Then he set out and entered Ihram for them both. When he came to Makkah he circumambulated the House and (did sa'i) between As-Safa and Al-Marwah. Then he did not do any thing more than that, and he did not offer a sacrifice, or shave his head, or cut his hair; he remained in Ihram until the Day of Sacrifice. Then he slaughtered his Hadi and shaved his head, and he thought that he had completed the Tawaf of Hajj and 'Umrah in the first Tawaf. Ibn 'Umar said: "That is what the Messenger of Allah did. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2746)

That when they were present with the Messenger of Allah in Al-Madinah, he sent the Hadi, and whoever wanted to enter Ihram did so, and whoever did not want to, did not. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2792)

That when the Prophet of Allah came to Dhul-Hulaifah he marked the Hadi on the right side of its hump, the he removed the blood and garlanded it with two shoes, then he mounted his she-camel and when it stood up with him Al-Baida, he recited the Talbiyah and entered Ihram at noon and enter Ihram for Hajj. The Messenger of Allah (SWAS) offered the noon prayer at Dhu al-Hulaifah. He then sent for a camel and made incision in the right side of its hump ; he then took out the blood by pressing it and tied two shoes in its neck. He then rode on his mount (camel) and reached al-Baida, he raised his voice for the talbiyah for performing Hajj. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1752)

He said, 'This is something that Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam, so do everything that the pilgrim does except for circumambulating the House.' When we arrived in Makkah, the Prophet ﷺ said, 'Make it an 'Umrah.' So they did that. Those who did not have a sacrificial animal in their possession put off ihram and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, 'Umar, and some of his companions who were from the people of Al-Yasar put it off too, but they did not shave their heads. When the day of sacrifice came, the Prophet ﷺ sacrificed his camel for his wives and I purified myself and made Tawaf around the Ka'bah and sa'iy. Then I returned to the Prophet ﷺ in Minna. When we left, he sent me with my brother 'Abdur-Rahman ibn Abu Bakr from Al-Muhassab, and he said, 'Take your sister and perform 'Umrah for her with the Taneem intention.' So he did that for me, then I made Tawaf and sa'iy again, and then I returned to him and we left.'"

The Messenger of Allah (SWAS) would send the sacrificial animals as offerings (to Makkah) from Madinah. I would twist the garlands of the sacrificial animals ; thereafter he would not abstain from anything from which a pilgrim putting on Ihram abstains. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1758)
