[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , returned to Abu Talib with some people from the Quraysh, and there was a man seated by his head. When Abu Jahl saw him, he stood up and sat down. He said, "Your nephew mentions our idols." Abu Talib said, "Why are your people complaining about you?" He said, "Oh uncle, I want them to agree on a statement that the Arabs accept and the non-Arabs pay tribute to." Abu Talib asked, "What is it?" He said, "The testimony that there is no god but Allah." They stood up and said, "Shall we make the gods one god?" He said, "And the Quran with its reminders descended." Until it reached the words, "Indeed, this is a curious thing." (Quran 38:5) The words of the reciter came to an end.

[Machine] Abu Talib fell ill, so the Quraysh came to visit him and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to heal him. There was a man sitting by his head, so Abu Jahl stood up and sat in his place. They said, "Your nephew falls into our gods, and what is the matter with your people complaining about you?" He said, "O uncle, I want to propose to them one word that the Arabs can adhere to and the non-Arabs can pay the jizyah (tax) with." They asked, "What is it?" He said, "There is no god but Allah." They stood up and said, "Will he make the gods into one god?" So "S" and "Al-Quran Dhil Dhikr" [Sura 38] was revealed, and he recited until he reached "Indeed, this is something amazing" [Sura 38:5].

[Machine] Abu Talib fell ill, so the Quraysh came. Then the Prophet (pbuh) came, and there was a man sitting at the head of Abu Talib. Abu Jahal stood up in order to prevent him from being near Abu Talib and complained to him. He said, "O cousin, what do you want from your people?" He said, "O uncle, I only want from them a word that the Arabs will be humiliated by, and by which they will pay tribute to the non-Arabs." He said, "One word?" He said, "One word." He said, "What is it?" He said, "There is no god but Allah." He said, "Will you make the gods one god? This is something strange!" So Allah revealed regarding them: "Saad. By the Quran of remembrance. But they wonder that there has come to them a Warner from among themselves. So the disbelievers say, 'This is a strange thing.'" (Quran 38:1-7)

They complained to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about Abu Talib, saying, "Your nephew speaks ill of our idols." Abu Talib asked, "What is the matter with your people? Why are they complaining about you, my nephew?" He said, "O uncle, all I wanted from them was one word that would make the Arabs obey them and the foreigners pay tribute to them." Abu Talib asked, "And what is that word?" He replied, "There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah." They then said, "Shall we make all the idols into one god?" He replied, and the verse of the Qur'an was revealed: "Saw and the Quran, full of mention. Indeed, this is a wonderous thing."

[Machine] Abu Talib fell ill, so the Prophet ﷺ came to visit him. There was a sitting place (a cushion or soft cover) by his head, so Abu Jahl stood and sat on it. They complained to the Prophet ﷺ about that, saying that Abu Talib was inclined to their gods. The Prophet ﷺ asked his nephew, "What do you want from him?" He replied, "Uncle, I only want him to say a word by which the Arabs accept his faith and the non-Arabs pay tribute to him." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "And what is that word?" He replied, "There is no god but Allah." They said, "Do you make the gods into one God? Indeed, this is a strange thing," and then the people in the gathering dispersed.
