My father said, "I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'The period of your stay as compared to the previous nations is like the period equal to the time between the ʿAsr prayer and sunset. The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted (upon it) till midday then they were exhausted and were given one Qirat (of gold) each. And then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted (upon it) till the ʿAsr prayer then they were exhausted and were! given one Qirat each. And then we were given the Qur'an and we acted (upon it) till sunset and we were given two Qirats each. On that the people of both the scriptures said, 'O our Lord! You have given them two Qirats and given us one Qirat, though we have worked more than they.' Allah said, 'Have I usurped some of your right?' They said, 'No.' Allah said: "That is my blessing I bestow upon whomsoever I wish."

أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ إِنَّمَا بَقَاؤُكُمْ فِيمَا سَلَفَ قَبْلَكُمْ مِنَ الأُمَمِ كَمَا بَيْنَ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ أُوتِيَ أَهْلُ التَّوْرَاةِ التَّوْرَاةَ فَعَمِلُوا حَتَّى إِذَا انْتَصَفَ النَّهَارُ عَجَزُوا فَأُعْطُوا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا ثُمَّ أُوتِيَ أَهْلُ الإِنْجِيلِ الإِنْجِيلَ فَعَمِلُوا إِلَى صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ ثُمَّ عَجَزُوا فَأُعْطُوا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا ثُمَّ أُوتِينَا الْقُرْآنَ فَعَمِلْنَا إِلَى غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ فَأُعْطِينَا قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ فَقَالَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابَيْنِ أَىْ رَبَّنَا أَعْطَيْتَ هَؤُلاَءِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ وَأَعْطَيْتَنَا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا وَنَحْنُ كُنَّا أَكْثَرَ عَمَلاً قَالَ قَالَ اللَّهُ ﷻ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ أَجْرِكُمْ مِنْ شَىْءٍ قَالُوا لاَ قَالَ فَهْوَ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Your example and the example of the people of the two Scriptures (i.e. Jews and Christians) is like the example of a man who employed some laborers and asked them, 'Who will work for me from morning till midday for one Qirat?' The Jews accepted and carried out the work. He then asked, Who will work for me from midday up to the ʿAsr prayer for one Qirat?' The Christians accepted and fulfilled the work. He then said, 'Who will work for me from the ʿAsr till sunset for two Qirats?' You, Muslims have accepted the offer. The Jews and the Christians got angry and said, 'Why should we work more and get lesser wages?' (Allah) said, 'Have I withheld part of your right?' They replied in the negative. He said, 'It is My Blessing, I bestow upon whomever I wish .'

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ مَثَلُكُمْ وَمَثَلُ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابَيْنِ كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ اسْتَأْجَرَ أُجَرَاءَ فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ غُدْوَةَ إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ فَعَمِلَتِ الْيَهُودُ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ فَعَمِلَتِ النَّصَارَى ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنَ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى أَنْ تَغِيبَ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ فَأَنْتُمْ هُمْ فَغَضِبَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى فَقَالُوا مَا لَنَا أَكْثَرَ عَمَلاً وَأَقَلَّ عَطَاءً قَالَ هَلْ نَقَصْتُكُمْ مِنْ حَقِّكُمْ قَالُوا لاَ قَالَ فَذَلِكَ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Your example and the example of Jews and Christians is like the example of a man who employed some laborers to whom he said, 'Who will work for me up to midday for one Qirat each?' The Jews carried out the work for one Qirat each; and then the Christians carried out the work up to the ʿAsr prayer for one Qirat each; and now you Muslims are working from the ʿAsr prayer up to sunset for two Qirats each. The Jews and Christians got angry and said, 'We work more and are paid less.' The employer (Allah) asked them, 'Have I usurped some of your right?' They replied in the negative. He said, 'That is My Blessing, I bestow upon whomever I wish.' "

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّمَا مَثَلُكُمْ وَالْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى كَرَجُلٍ اسْتَعْمَلَ عُمَّالاً فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ فَعَمِلَتِ الْيَهُودُ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ ثُمَّ عَمِلَتِ النَّصَارَى عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ ثُمَّ أَنْتُمُ الَّذِينَ تَعْمَلُونَ مِنْ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى مَغَارِبِ الشَّمْسِ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ فَغَضِبَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى وَقَالُوا نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ عَمَلاً وَأَقَلُّ عَطَاءً قَالَ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ حَقِّكُمْ شَيْئًا قَالُوا لاَ فَقَالَ فَذَلِكَ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Your period (i.e. the Muslims' period) in comparison to the periods of the previous nations, is like the period between the ʿAsr prayer and sunset. And your example in comparison to the Jews and the Christians is like the example of a person who employed some laborers and asked them, 'Who will work for me till midday for one Qirat each?' The Jews worked for half a day for one Qirat each. The person asked, 'Who will do the work for me from midday to the time of the ʿAsr (prayer) for one Qirat each?' The Christians worked from midday till the ʿAsr prayer for one Qirat. Then the person asked, 'Who will do the work for me from the ʿAsr till sunset for two Qirats each?' " The Prophet ﷺ added, "It is you (i.e. Muslims) who are doing the work from the ʿAsr till sunset, so you will have a double reward. The Jews and the Christians got angry and said, 'We have done more work but got less wages.' Allah said, 'Have I been unjust to you as regards your rights?' They said, 'No.' So Allah said, 'Then it is My Blessing which I bestow on whomever I like. "

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّمَا أَجَلُكُمْ فِي أَجَلِ مَنْ خَلاَ مِنَ الأُمَمِ مَا بَيْنَ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى مَغْرِبِ الشَّمْسِ وَإِنَّمَا مَثَلُكُمْ وَمَثَلُ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى كَرَجُلٍ اسْتَعْمَلَ عُمَّالاً فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ فَعَمِلَتِ الْيَهُودُ إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ فَعَمِلَتِ النَّصَارَى مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى مَغْرِبِ الشَّمْسِ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ أَلاَ فَأَنْتُمُ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ مِنْ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى مَغْرِبِ الشَّمْسِ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ أَلاَ لَكُمُ الأَجْرُ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَغَضِبَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى فَقَالُوا نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ عَمَلاً وَأَقَلُّ عَطَاءً قَالَ اللَّهُ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ حَقِّكُمْ شَيْئًا قَالُوا لاَ قَالَ فَإِنَّهُ فَضْلِي أُعْطِيهِ مَنْ شِئْتُ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Your life in comparison to the lifetime of the past nations is like the period between the time of ʿAsr prayer and sunset. Your example and the example of the Jews and Christians is that of person who employed laborers and said to them, "Who will work for me till the middle of the day for one Qirat (a special weight)?' The Jews did. He then said, "Who will work for me from the middle of the day till the ʿAsr prayer for one Qirat each?" The Christians worked accordingly. Then you (Muslims) are working from the ʿAsr prayer till the Maghrib prayer for two Qirats each. They (the Jews and the Christians) said, 'We did more labor but took less wages.' He (Allah) said, 'Have I wronged you in your rights?' They replied, 'No.' Then He said, 'This is My Blessing which I give to whom I wish."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّمَا أَجَلُكُمْ فِي أَجَلِ مَنْ خَلاَ مِنَ الأُمَمِ كَمَا بَيْنَ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ وَمَغْرِبِ الشَّمْسِ وَمَثَلُكُمْ وَمَثَلُ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ اسْتَعْمَلَ عُمَّالاً فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ فَعَمِلَتِ الْيَهُودُ فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى الْعَصْرِ فَعَمِلَتِ النَّصَارَى ثُمَّ أَنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ مِنَ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى الْمَغْرِبِ بِقِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ قَالُوا نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ عَمَلاً وَأَقَلُّ عَطَاءً قَالَ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ حَقِّكُمْ قَالُوا لاَ قَالَ فَذَاكَ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ شِئْتُ

I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was standing on the pulpit, saying, "The remaining period of your stay (on the earth) in comparison to the nations before you, is like the period between the ʿAsr prayer and sunset. The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted upon it till midday, and then they were worn out and were given for their labor, one Qirat each. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted upon it till the time of the ʿAsr prayer, and then they were worn out and were given (for their labor), one Qirat each. Then you people were given the Qur'an and you acted upon it till sunset and so you were given two Qirats each (double the reward of the previous nations)." Then the people of the Torah said, 'O our Lord! These people have done a little labor (much less than we) but have taken a greater reward.' Allah said, 'Have I withheld anything from your reward?' They said, 'No.' Then Allah said, 'That is My Favor which I bestow on whom I wish.' "

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهْوَ قَائِمٌ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ إِنَّمَا بَقَاؤُكُمْ فِيمَا سَلَفَ قَبْلَكُمْ مِنَ الأُمَمِ كَمَا بَيْنَ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ أُعْطِيَ أَهْلُ التَّوْرَاةِ التَّوْرَاةَ فَعَمِلُوا بِهَا حَتَّى انْتَصَفَ النَّهَارُ ثُمَّ عَجَزُوا فَأُعْطُوا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا ثُمَّ أُعْطِيَ أَهْلُ الإِنْجِيلِ الإِنْجِيلَ فَعَمِلُوا بِهِ حَتَّى صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ ثُمَّ عَجَزُوا فَأُعْطُوا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا ثُمَّ أُعْطِيتُمُ الْقُرْآنَ فَعَمِلْتُمْ بِهِ حَتَّى غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ فَأُعْطِيتُمْ قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ قَالَ أَهْلُ التَّوْرَاةِ رَبَّنَا هَؤُلاَءِ أَقَلُّ عَمَلاً وَأَكْثَرُ أَجْرًا قَالَ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ أَجْرِكُمْ مِنْ شَىْءٍ قَالُوا لاَ فَقَالَ فَذَلِكَ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Your stay (in this world) in comparison to the stay of the nations preceding you, is like the period between ʿAsr prayer and the sun set (in comparison to a whole day). The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted on it till midday and then they were unable to carry on. And they were given (a reward equal to) one Qirat each. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted on it till ʿAsr Prayer and then they were unable to carry on, so they were given la reward equal to) one Qirat each. Then you were given the Qur'an and you acted on it till sunset, therefore you were given (a reward equal to) two Qirats each. On that, the people of the Scriptures said, 'These people (Muslims) did less work than we but they took a bigger reward.' Allah said (to them). 'Have I done any oppression to you as regards your rights?' They said, "No." Then Allah said, 'That is My Blessing which I grant to whomsoever I will.' "

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّمَا بَقَاؤُكُمْ فِيمَنْ سَلَفَ مِنَ الأُمَمِ كَمَا بَيْنَ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ أُوتِيَ أَهْلُ التَّوْرَاةِ التَّوْرَاةَ فَعَمِلُوا بِهَا حَتَّى انْتَصَفَ النَّهَارُ ثُمَّ عَجَزُوا فَأُعْطُوا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا ثُمَّ أُوتِيَ أَهْلُ الإِنْجِيلِ الإِنْجِيلَ فَعَمِلُوا بِهِ حَتَّى صُلِّيَتِ الْعَصْرُ ثُمَّ عَجَزُوا فَأُعْطُوا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا ثُمَّ أُوتِيتُمُ الْقُرْآنَ فَعَمِلْتُمْ بِهِ حَتَّى غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَأُعْطِيتُمْ قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ فَقَالَ أَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ هَؤُلاَءِ أَقَلُّ مِنَّا عَمَلاً وَأَكْثَرُ أَجْرًا قَالَ اللَّهُ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ حَقِّكُمْ شَيْئًا قَالُوا لاَ قَالَ فَهْوَ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Your period in comparison to the periods of the previous nations, is like the period between Salat Al-'Asr until sunset. And you are in comparison to the Jews and Christians, like a man who employeed some workers and he said: 'Who will work for me until Midday for a Qirat each?' So the Jews worked for half a day for a Qirat each. Then he said: 'Who will work for me from the middle of the day until Salat Al-'Asr for a Qirat each?' So the Christians worked for a Qirat each. Then it is you who are doing the work from Salat Al-'Asr until the setting of the sun for two Qirats each. So the Jews and the Christians got angry and said: 'We did more work but were given less?' So He (Allah) says: 'Have I wronged you in any of your rights?' They said: 'No.' He says: 'Then it is my blessing that I give to whomever I wish.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّمَا أَجَلُكُمْ فِيمَا خَلاَ مِنَ الأُمَمِ كَمَا بَيْنَ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى مَغَارِبِ الشَّمْسِ وَإِنَّمَا مَثَلُكُمْ وَمَثَلُ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى كَرَجُلٍ اسْتَعْمَلَ عُمَّالاً فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ فَعَمِلَتِ الْيَهُودُ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى الْعَصْرِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ فَعَمِلَتِ النَّصَارَى عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ ثُمَّ أَنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ مِنْ صَلاَةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى مَغَارِبِ الشَّمْسِ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ فَغَضِبَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى وَقَالُوا نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ عَمَلاً وَأَقَلُّ عَطَاءً قَالَ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ حَقِّكُمْ شَيْئًا قَالُوا لاَ قَالَ فَإِنَّهُ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Your period in comparison to the periods of the previous nations, is like the period between Salat Al-'Asr until sunset. And you are in comparison to the Jews and Christians, like a man who employeed some workers and he said: 'Who will work for me until Midday for a Qirat each?' قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَثَلُكُمْ وَمَثَلُ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى كَرَجُلٍ اسْتَعْمَلَ عُمَّالًا فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الصُّبْحِ إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ؟ أَلَا فَعَمِلَتِ الْيَهُودُ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ؟ أَلَا فَعَمِلَتِ النَّصَارَى ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ ؟ أَلَا فَأَنْتُمُ الَّذِينَ عَمِلْتُمْ فَغَضِبَ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى قَالُوا نَحْنُ كُنَّا أَكْثَرَ عَمَلًا وَأَقَلَّ عَطَاءً قَالَ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ حَقِّكُمْ شَيْئًا؟ قَالُوا لَا قَالَ فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The example of my Ummah (nation) is like a man who said, 'Who will work for me from morning until midday for a qirat?' The Jews said, 'We will do it,' so they did and he paid them their wages. Then he said, 'Who will work for me from midday until the Asr prayer for a qirat?' The Christians said, 'We will do it,' so they did and he paid them their wages. Then he said, 'Who will work from the Asr prayer until nightfall for two qirats?' The Muslims said, 'We will do it.' So they worked and he paid them their wages. The Jews and the Christians became angry and said, 'We did more work but received less payment.' He asked them if he had been unfair in their wages and they replied, 'No.' He said, 'That is my favor which I bestow on whom I will.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَثَلُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ أَوْ قَالَ أُمَّتِي وَمَثَلُ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ غُدْوَةٍ إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ؟ قَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ نَحْنُ فَفَعَلُوا فَقَالَ فَمَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ؟ قَالَتِ النَّصَارَى نَحْنُ فَعَمِلُوا وَأَنْتُمُالْمُسْلِمُونَ تَعْمَلُونَ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى اللَّيْلِ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ فَغَضِبَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى فَقَالُوا نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ عَمَلًا وَأَقَلُّ أَجْرًا فَقَالَ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ أَجْرِكُمْ شَيْئًا؟ قَالُوا لَا قَالَ فَذَاكَ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ

Then the people of the Torah said, 'O our Lord! These people have done a little labor (much less than we) but have taken a greater reward.' Allah said, 'Have I withheld anything from your reward?' They said, 'No.' Then Allah said, 'That is My Favor which I bestow on whom I wish.' " (Using translation from Bukhārī 7467)

سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَقُولُ أَلَا إِنَّ بَقَاءَكُمْ فِيمَا سَلَفَ قَبْلَكُمْ مِنَ الْأُمَمِ كَمَا بَيْنَ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى غُرُوبِ الشَّمْسِ أُعْطِيَ أَهْلُ التَّوْرَاةِ التَّوْرَاةَ فَعَمِلُوا بِهَا حَتَّى إِذَا انْتَصَفَ النَّهَارُ عَجَزُوا فَأُعْطُوا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا وَأُعْطِيَ أَهْلُ الْإِنْجِيلِ الْإِنْجِيلَ فَعَمِلُوا بِهِ حَتَّى صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ ثُمَّ عَجَزُوا فَأُعْطُوا قِيرَاطًا قِيرَاطًا ثُمَّ أُعْطِيتُمُ الْقُرْآنَفَعَمِلْتُمْ بِهِ حَتَّى غَرَبَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَأُعْطِيتُمْ قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ فَقَالَ أَهْلُ التَّوْرَاةِ وَالْإِنْجِيلِ رَبَّنَا هَؤُلَاءِ أَقَلُّ عَمَلًا وَأَكْثَرُ أَجْرًا فَقَالَ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ أَجْرِكُمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ؟ فَقَالُوا لَا فَقَالَ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Your period in comparison to the periods of the previous nations, is like the period between Salat Al-'Asr until sunset. And you are in comparison to the Jews and Christians, like a man who employeed some workers and he said: 'Who will work for me until Midday for a Qirat each?' So the Jews worked for half a day for a Qirat each. Then he said: 'Who will work for me from the middle of the day until Salat Al-'Asr for a Qirat each?' So the Christians worked for a Qirat each. Then it is you who are doing the work from Salat Al-'Asr until the setting of the sun for two Qirats each. So the Jews and the Christians got angry and said: 'We did more work but were given less?' So He (Allah) says: 'Have I wronged you in any of your rights?' They said: 'No.' He says: 'Then it is my blessing that I give to whomever I wish.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2871)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّمَا أَجَلُكُمْ فِي أَجَلِ مَنْ خَلَا مِنَ الْأُمَمِ كَمَا بَيْنَ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى مَغَارِبِ الشَّمْسِ وَإِنَّمَا مَثَلُكُمْ وَمَثَلُ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى كَرَجُلٍ اسْتَعْمَلَ عُمَّالًا فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ؟ قَالَ فَعَمِلَتِ الْيَهُودُ إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ؟ قَالَ فَعَمِلَتِ النَّصَارَى مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَنْتُمُ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى مَغَارِبِ الشَّمْسِ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ قَالَ فَغَضِبَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى وَقَالُوا نَحْنُ كُنَّا أَكْثَرَ عَمَلًا وَأَقَلَّ عَطَاءً قَالَ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ حَقِّكُمْ شَيْئًا؟ قَالُوا لَا قَالَ فَإِنَّهُ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ»

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Your period (i.e. the Muslims' period) in comparison to the periods of the previous nations, is like the period between the ʿAsr prayer and sunset. And your example in comparison to the Jews and the Christians is like the example of a person who employed some laborers and asked them, 'Who will work for me till midday for one Qirat each?' The Jews worked for half a day for one Qirat each. The person asked, 'Who will do the work for me from midday to the time of the ʿAsr (prayer) for one Qirat each?' The Christians worked from midday till the ʿAsr prayer for one Qirat. Then the person asked, 'Who will do the work for me from the ʿAsr till sunset for two Qirats each?' " The Prophet ﷺ added, "It is you (i.e. Muslims) who are doing the work from the ʿAsr till sunset, so you will have a double reward. The Jews and the Christians got angry and said, 'We have done more work but got less wages.' Allah said, 'Have I been unjust to you as regards your rights?' They said, 'No.' So Allah said, 'Then it is My Blessing which I bestow on whomever I like. " (Using translation from Bukhārī 3459)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «إِنَّمَا أَجَلُكُمْ فِي أَجَلِ مَنْ خَلَا مِنَ الْأُمَمِ كَمَا بَيْنَ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى مَغَارِبِ الشَّمْسِ وَإِنَّمَا مَثَلُكُمْ وَمَثَلُ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى كَرَجُلٍ اسْتَعْمَلَ عُمَّالًا فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ؟ قَالَ فَعَمِلَتِ الْيَهُودُ إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ قِيرَاطٍ؟ قَالَ فَعَمِلَتِ النَّصَارَى مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى مَغَارِبِ الشَّمْسِ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ؟ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَنْتُمُ الَّذِينَ تَعْمَلُونَ مِنْ صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى مَغَارِبِ الشَّمْسِ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ قِيرَاطَيْنِ قَالَ فَغَضِبَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى وَقَالُوا نَحْنُ كُنَّا أَكْثَرَ عَمَلًا وَأَقَلَّ عَطَاءً قَالَ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ مِنْ عَمَلِكُمْ شَيْئًا؟ قَالُوا لَا قَالَ فَإِنَّهُ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say while he was standing on the pulpit, "Indeed, your remaining in [this world] is only for the sake of those who came before you, just like the time between the Asr prayer and the sunset. The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted upon it until they were incapable [of following it]. Then they were given a qirat after qirat. The people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted upon it until they reached the time of the Asr prayer. Then they were given a qirat after qirat. And you were given the Qur'an and you acted upon it until the sunset. Then you were given two qirats after two qirats." The people of the Torah and the Gospel said, "Our Lord, these [Muslims] did less in their actions than us and they have greater reward." Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, said, "Have you been deprived of anything from your rights?" They said, "No." He said, "Then it is My favor that I bestow upon whomever I will."

عَن النَّبِيّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّمَا مَثَلُكُمْ وَمَثَلُ الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى كَمَثَلِ رَجُلٍ اسْتَعَمَلَ عُمَّالا فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ غَدْوَةٍ إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ؟ فَعَمِلَتِ الْيَهُودُ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى صَلاةِ الْعَصْرِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ؟ أَلا فَعَمِلَتِ النَّصَارَى مِنْ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى صَلاةِ الْعَصْرِ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مِنْ صَلاةِ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى الْمَغْرِبِ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ؟ أَلا فَعَمِلْتُمْ فَغَضِبَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى وَقَالُوا نَحْنُ أَكْثَرُ عَمَلا وَأَقَلُّ أَجْرًا؟! فَقَالَ هَلْ ظَلَمْتُكُمْ شَيْئًا؟ قَالُوا لاقال فذلك فضلي أعطيه من شئت

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Your example and the example of the people of the two Scriptures (i.e. Jews and Christians) is like the example of a man who employed some laborers and asked them, 'Who will work for me from morning till midday for one Qirat?' The Jews accepted and carried out the work. He then asked, Who will work for me from midday up to the ʿAsr prayer for one Qirat?' The Christians accepted and fulfilled the work. He then said, 'Who will work for me from the ʿAsr till sunset for two Qirats?' You, Muslims have accepted the offer. The Jews and the Christians got angry and said, 'Why should we work more and get lesser wages?' (Allah) said, 'Have I withheld part of your right?' They replied in the negative. He said, 'It is My Blessing, I bestow upon whomever I wish .' (Using translation from Bukhārī 2268)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّمَا مَثَلُكُمْ وَمَثَلُ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابَيْنِ قَبْلَكُمْ مَثْلُ رَجُلٍ اسْتَأْجَرَ أَجِيرًا فَقَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ مَا بَيْنَ غُدْوَةٍ إِلَى نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ؟ فَعَمِلَتِ النَّصَارَى ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مَا بَيْنَ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ إِلَى الْعَصْرِ عَلَى قِيرَاطٍ؟ فَعَمِلَتِ الْيَهُودُ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ يَعْمَلُ لِي مَا بَيْنَ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى الْمَغْرِبِ عَلَى قِيرَاطَيْنِ؟ فَعَمِلْتُمْ أَنْتُمْ فَغَضِبَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى وَقَالُوا مَا لَنَا أَكْثَرَ عَمَلًا وَأَقَلَّ عَطَاءً؟ قَالَ هَلْ نَقَصْتُكُمْ مِنْ حَقِّكُمْ شَيْئًا؟ قَالُوا لَا فَقَالَ إِنَّمَا هُوَ فَضْلِي أُوتِيهِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ

I heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was standing on the pulpit, saying, "The remaining period of your stay (on the earth) in comparison to the nations before you, is like the period between the ʿAsr prayer and sunset. The people of the Torah were given the Torah and they acted upon it till midday, and then they were worn out and were given for their labor, one Qirat each. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel and they acted upon it till the time of the ʿAsr prayer, and then they were worn out and were given (for their labor), one Qirat each. Then you people were given the Qur'an and you acted upon it till sunset and so you were given two Qirats each (double the reward of the previous nations)." Then the people of the Torah said, 'O our Lord! These people have done a little labor (much less than we) but have taken a greater reward.' Allah said, 'Have I withheld anything from your reward?' They said, 'No.' Then Allah said, 'That is My Favor which I bestow on whom I wish.' " (Using translation from Bukhārī 7467)

"إِنما بقاؤُكم فيما سلفَ قبلَكم من الأُمَمِ كما بين صلاةِ العصر إِلى غروبِ الشمس أُوتى أَهلُ التوراةِ التوراةَ، فعَمِلوا حتى إِذا انتصفَ النَّهارُ، ثم عجزوا فأُعطُوا قيراطًا قيراطًا، ثم أُوتى أهْلُ الإنجيل، فعملوا إِلى صلاةِ العصر، ثم عجزوا فأُعطوا قيراطًا قيرطًا، ثم أُوتينا القرآن فعملنا إِلى غروب الشّمسِ فأُعطينَا قيراطين قيراطين. فقال أهُل الكتابِ: أَىْ ربنَّا أَعطيت هؤلاءِ قيراطين قيراطين وأَعطيتنا قيراطًا قيراطًا ونحن كنَّا أَكثَرَ عملًا؟ قال اللَّه ﷻ: هل ظلمتُكم من أَجِركم من شئٍ؟ قالوا: لا، قال فهو فضلى أُوتيه من أَشاءُ".

"إِنَّمَا أجَلكم فيما خلا من الأُمَمِ، كما بين صلاةِ العصر إِلى مغارب الشمسِ وإِنما مثلُكم ومثلُ اليهود والنصارى كمثل رجُل استأَجَرَ أجيرًا فقال: من

يعملُ لى من غَدوة إِلى نصف النهار على قيراط قيراط فعملت اليهود، ثم قال: من يعملُ من نصفِ النّهار إِلى صلاة العصر على قيراط قيراط، فَعَمِلت النصارى، ثم قال: من يعملُ من العصرِ إِلى أن تغيبَ الشَّمس على قيراطين قيراطين فأَنتم هم فغضبت اليهودُ والنصارى وقالوا: مالَنا أَكثرُ عملًا وأقلُّ عطاءً؟ قال: هل ظلمتكم من حقَّكم شيئًا؟ قالوا لا، قال: فذلك فضلى أُوتيه من أَشاءُ ".
