"At the time of the Messenger of Allah, women in postnatal bleeding (after childbirth) used to wait for forty days, and we used to put Wars on our faces because of freckles." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 648)
عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ كَانَتْ النُّفَسَاءُ تَجْلِسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا وَكُنَّا نَطْلِي وُجُوهَنَا بِالْوَرْسِ مِنَ الْكَلَفِ

"The time of waiting for Nifas during the time of AIlah's Messenger was forty days. We used to cover our faces with reddish-brown Wars."
كَانَتِ النُّفَسَاءُ تَجْلِسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْمًا فَكُنَّا نَطْلِي وُجُوهَنَا بِالْوَرْسِ مِنَ الْكَلَفِ

The woman having bleeding after delivery (puerperal haemorrhage) would refrain (from prayer) for forty days or forty nights; and we would anoint our faces with an aromatic herb called wars to remove dark spots. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 311)

[Machine] "Women used to stay at home for forty nights after giving birth, and we would pray with marks on our faces from the callus."
«كَانَتِ النِّسَاءُ تَقْعُدُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بَعْدَ نِفَاسِهَا أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً وَكُنَّا نُصَلِّي وَعَلَى وُجُوهِنَا الْوَرْسُ مِنَ الْكَلَفِ»
"عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ: كَانَ النُّفَسَاء يَجْلِسْنَ عَلَى عَهْد رسُول اللهِ ﷺ أَرْبَعَينَ يَوْمًا، وكُنَّا نَطْلِي وُجوهَنَا بِالورْسِ مِنَ الكَلَفِ".
