[Machine] "I accompanied Abu Bakr during the Battle of Dhat al-Salasil, and he had a cloak made of a fabric called "Fdaki" that he would let me wear when he would mount his horse and we would wear it when we dismounted."

[Machine] "Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said, 'I wish I was a strand of hair on the side of a faithful servant.'"

I came to Madinah one year after the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and I found Abu Bakr addressing the people. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood before us last year... and he wept and struggled to speak three times, then he said: 0 people, ask Allah for well-being for no one is given, after certainty of faith, anything like well being and nothing worse than doubt after disbelief. You should be truthful, for it guides to righteousness and they lead to Paradise. Beware of lying, for it guides to immorality and they both lead to Hell. (Using translation from Aḥmad 44)

ahmad-zuhd:563ʿAbdullāh > Bī > Yazīd > Ismāʿīl b. Abū Khālid > ʿAbdullāh al-Yamanī a freed slave of al-Zubayr b. al-ʿAwwām > Lammā Āḥtuḍir Abū

[Machine] When Abu Bakr became seriously ill, Aisha recited the following verse [from the long ocean]:

"Avoid what distracts you from the youth, when the chest becomes narrow with worry" (Quran 19).

So Abu Bakr said, "That's not it, my dear daughter. But say instead, 'And the stupor of death will bring the Truth; that is what you were trying to avoid'" (Quran 19).

Then he said, "Look at these two garments of mine. Wash them and shroud me in them, for the living have more need of new clothes than the dead."

ahmad-zuhd:564ʿAbdullāh > ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿUmar > Wakīʿ Wa-al-Ḥakam b. Ḥazn > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father

[Machine] "By Allah, Abu Bakr did not leave a dinar or dirham without spending it in the cause of Allah."

ahmad-zuhd:565ʿAbdullāh > Bī > ʿAbd al-Raḥman > Ḥammād b. Salamah > Thābit > Muslim b. Yasār > Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq

[Machine] "Indeed, a Muslim will be rewarded in every aspect, even in times of calamity and loss. His goods may be lost and his merchandise may be missing, causing him distress, but then he will find them intact in his saddlebag."

ahmad-zuhd:566ʿAbdullāh > Bī > Muḥammad Bun Fuḍayl > Ismāʿīl > Qays

[Machine] Abu Bakr had a slave boy. When the boy brought his food, Abu Bakr would not eat from it until he asked him. If it was something that he liked, he would eat it, and if it was something that he disliked, he would not eat it. He forgot one night and ate without asking. Then he asked him and he informed him that it was something he disliked, so he put his hand in his mouth and vomited until nothing was left.

ahmad-zuhd:567ʿAbdullāh > Bī > Khālid b. Ḥayyān Abū Yazīd al-Raqqī > Jaʿfar 91 > Maymūn b. Mihrān > Utī Abū Bakr Bighurāb Wāfir al-Janāḥayn Faqallabah Thum

[Machine] "No hunting game or timber is ever found except what has been lost from glorification (of God)."

ahmad-zuhd:568ʿAbdullāh > Bī > Muḥammad b. Bishr > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. al-Qāsim from his father > ʿĀʾishah > In Abū Bakr Ḥīn Ḥaḍarath al-Wafāh > Liʿāʾishah

[Machine] When death approached Abu Bakr, he said to Aisha, "I do not possess anything from the money of Abu Bakr except for this vial and this obedient servant boy who used to make swords for the Muslims and serve us. So, when I die, give him to Umar." When she sent him to Umar, he said, "May Allah have mercy on Abu Bakr, he has exhausted those who came after him."

[Machine] "That Allah may complete this matter for you, O tribe of 'Urayb, to the extent that a man among you would call upon his household by means of his handful of wheat. If He wills, He would say to them, 'Mix it with oil,' and if He wills, He would say, 'Mix it with butter.'"

[Machine] Abu Bakr divided the people and distributed among them. Umar asked him, "O Caliph of the Messenger of Allah, why do you distribute among the companions and others from the people?" Abu Bakr replied, "The world is just a temporary place, and the best distribution is the widest one. Their merit lies in their rewards."

ahmad-zuhd:571ʿAbdullāh > Bī > Mūsá b. Hilāl > Hishām b. Ḥassān > al-Ḥasan

[Machine] "O successor of the Messenger of Allah, advise me," said Abu Bakr to him. He replied, "Indeed, Allah has opened the world for you, so do not take from it except what is due to you. And whoever prays the Fajr prayer is under the protection of Allah, so do not betray His trust, lest He throws you into the fire upon your face."

[Machine] Aisha, may Allah have mercy on him, invited me when my father attended and said, "Oh my daughter, I used to give you the dates of Khaybar, but you didn't take them and I would like for you to return them to me." She said, so I cried and then said, "May Allah forgive you, oh father, by Allah if Khaybar were all gold, I would return it to you." He said, "It is in the book of Allah, oh my daughter, I used to trade with the Quraysh and most of them have money, but when I became occupied with leadership, I saw that I would be afflicted with money to the extent that it occupied me. Oh my daughter, this is the cloak of Qattan and a garment, and a servant, so when I die..."
