[Machine] O father of righteousness! The repudiation of evil with good deeds. He asked, "What is honor?" He replied, "The establishment of family, the carrying of burdens, the camaraderie of brothers, and the preservation of neighbors." He asked, "What is integrity?" He replied, "Chastity and the reform of wealth." He asked, "What is precision?" He replied, "Looking at minor matters and refraining from humiliating others." He asked, "What is blame?" He replied, "Taking responsibility for oneself and generously giving." He asked, "What is tolerance?" He replied, "Giving from both difficulty and ease." He asked, "What is stinginess?" He replied, "Seeing what you have spent as a loss." He asked, "What is brotherhood?" He replied, "Supporting others in times of hardship and ease." He asked, "What is cowardice?" He replied, "Lack of courage in supporting a friend and cowering from an enemy." He asked, "What is gain?" He replied, "The desire for piety and detachment from the material world, it is the cool gain." He asked, "What is patience?" He replied, "Suppressing anger and controlling oneself." He asked, "What is wealth?" He replied, "Satisfaction of the soul with what Allah has allotted, even if it is little. And indeed, true wealth is the wealth of the soul." He asked, "What is poverty?" He replied, "The greed of the soul in all things." He asked, "What is prevention?" He replied, "The intensity of hardship and disputing with the esteemed." He asked, "What is humiliation?" He replied, "Panic in the face of truth." He asked, "What is disobedience?" He replied, "Playing with one's beard and excessive spitting during conversation." He asked, "What is courage?" He replied, "Agreeing with peers." He asked, "What is appropriation?" He replied, "Your speech about matters that do not concern you." He asked, "What is glory?" He replied, "Giving in times of need and forgiving wrongdoing." He asked, "What is intelligence?" He replied, "Guarding the heart whenever you depend on it." He asked, "What is interruption?" He replied, "Opposing your leader and raising your voice above his." He asked, "What is good praise?" He replied, "Doing good to the beautiful and avoiding the ugly." He asked, "What is resolution?" He replied, "Long patience and kindness towards the authorities." He asked, "What is foolishness?" He replied, "Following lowly behavior and associating with wrongdoers." He asked, "What is negligence?" He replied, "Abandoning the mosque and engaging in corrupt activities." He asked, "What is deprivation?" He replied, "Missing out on your share even when it is presented to you." He asked, "What is corruption?" He replied, "The fool with his wealth and the reckless with his honor." Then Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O my son, do not underestimate a man you see forever. If he is better than you, consider him your father. If he is equal to you, consider him your brother. If he is younger than you, consider him your son." Abu Al-Qasim said, "This narration has not been reported except by Muhammad bin Abdullah Abu Rajaa Al-Habati. Uthman bin Saeed Al-Zayyati transmitted it exclusively. And it is not transmitted from Ali except through this chain of narration."

يَا أَبَهْ السَّدَادُ دَفْعُ الْمُنْكَرِ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ قَالَ فَمَا الشَّرَفُ؟ قَالَ اصْطِناعُ الْعَشِيرَةِ وَحَمْلُ الْجَرِيرَةِ ومُوافَقَةُ الْإِخْوانِ وَحِفْظُ الْجِيرَانِ قَالَ فَمَا الْمُرُوءَةُ؟ قَالَ الْعَفَافُ وَإِصْلَاحُ الْمَالِ قَالَ فَمَا الدِّقَّةُ؟ قَالَ النَّظَرُ فِي الْيَسِيرِ وَمَنْعُ الْحَقِيرِ قَالَ فَمَا اللَّومُ؟ قَالَ إِحْرَازُ الْمَرْءِ نَفْسَهُ وبَذْلُهُ عُرْسَهُ قَالَ فَمَا السَّمَاحَةُ؟ قَالَ الْبَذْلُ مِنَ الْعَسِيرِ وَالْيَسِيرِ قَالَ فَمَا الشُّحُّ؟ قَالَ أَنْ تَرَى مَا أَنْفَقْتَهُ تَلَفًا قَالَ فَمَا الْإِخَاءُ؟ قَالَ الْمُوَاسَاةُ فِي الشِّدَّةِ وَالرَّخَاءِ قَالَ فَمَا الْجُبْنُ؟ قَالَ الْجُرْأَةُ عَلَى الصَّدِيقِ وَالنُّكُولُ عَنِ الْعَدُوِّ قَالَ فَمَا الْغَنِيمَةُ؟ قَالَ الرَّغْبَةُ فِي التَّقْوَى وَالزَّهَادَةُ فِي الدُّنْيَا هِيَ الْغَنِيمَةُ الْبَارِدَةُ قَالَ فَمَا الْحِلْمُ؟ قَالَ كَظْمُ الْغَيْظِ وَمِلْكُ النَّفْسِ قَالَ فَمَا الْغِنَى؟ قَالَ رِضَى النَّفْسِ بِمَا قَسَمَ اللهُ تَعَالَى لَهَا وَإِنْ قَلَّ وَإِنَّمَا الْغِنَى غِنَى النَّفْسِ قَالَ فَمَا الْفَقْرُ؟ قَالَ شَرَهُ النَّفْسِ فِي كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَالَ فَمَا الْمَنَعَةُ؟ قَالَ شِدَّةُ الْبَأْسِ ومُنازَعَةُ أَعِزَّاءِ النَّاسِ قَالَ فَمَا الذُّلُّ؟ قَالَ الْفَزَعُ عِنْدَ الْمَصْدُوقَةِ قَالَ فَمَا الْعِيُّ؟ قَالَ الْعَبَثُ بِاللِّحْيَةِ وَكَثْرَةُ الْبَزْقِ عِنْدَ الْمُخاطَبَةِ قَالَ فَمَا الْجُرْأَةُ؟ قَالَ مُوَافَقَةُ الْأَقْرَانِ قَالَ فَمَا الْكُلْفَةُ؟ قَالَ كَلَامُكُ فِيمَا لَا يَعْنِيكَ قَالَ فَمَا الْمَجْدُ؟ قَالَ أَنْ تُعْطِيَ فِي الْغُرْمِ وَتَعْفُوَ عَنِ الْجُرْمِ قَالَ فَمَا الْعَقْلُ؟ قَالَ حِفْظُ الْقَلْبِ كُلَّمَا اسْتَوْعَيْتَهُ قَالَ فَمَا الْخُرْقُ؟ قَالَ مُعَازَتُكَ إِمَامَكَ ورَفْعُكَ عَلَيْهِ كَلَامَكَ قَالَ فَمَا حُسْنُ الثَّنَاءِ؟ قَالَ إِتْيَانُ الْجَمِيلِ وَتَرْكُ الْقَبِيحِ قَالَ فَمَا الْحَزْمُ؟ قَالَ طُولُ الْأَنَاةِ وَالرِّفْقُ بِالْوُلَاةِ قَالَ فَمَا السَّفَهُ؟ قَالَ اتِّبَاعُ الدَّناءَةِ وَمُصاحَبَةُ الْغُوَاةِ قَالَ فَمَا الْغَفْلَةُ؟ قَالَ تَرْكُكَ الْمَسْجِدَ وَطَاعَتُكَ الْمُفْسِدَ قَالَ فَمَا الْحِرْمَانُ؟ قَالَ تَرْكُكَ حَظَّكَ وَقَدْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْكَ قَالَ فَمَا الْمُفْسِدُ؟ قَالَ الْأَحْمَقُ فِي مَالِهِ الْمُتَهَاوِنُ فِي عِرْضِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَا فَقْرَ أَشَدُّ مِنَ الْجَهْلِ وَلَا مَالَ أَعْوَدُ مِنَ الْعَقْلِ وَلَا وَحْدَةَ أَوْحَشُ مِنَ الْعُجْبِ وَلَا اسْتِظْهارَ أَوْفَقُ مِنَ الْمُشَاوَرَةِ وَلَا عَقْلَ كَالتَّدْبِيرِ وَلَا حَسَبَ كَحُسْنِ الْخَلْقِ وَلَا وَرَعَ كَالْكَفِّ وَلَا عِبَادَةَ كالتَّفَكُّرِ وَلَا إِيمَانَ كَالْحَيَاءِ وَالصَّبْرِ وَآفَةُ الْحَدِيثِ الْكَذِبُ وَآفَةُ الْعِلْمِ النِّسْيَانُ وَآفَةُ الْحِلْمِ السَّفَهُ وَآفَةُ الْعِبَادَةِ الْفَتْرَةُ وَآفَةُ الظَّرْفِ الصَّلَفُ وَآفَةُ الشَّجَاعَةِ الْبَغْيُ وَآفَةُ السَّمَاحَةِ الْمَنُّ وَآفَةُ الْجَمَالِ الْخُيَلَاءُ وَآفَةُ الْحَسَبِ الْفَخْرُ» يَا بُنَيَّ لَا تَسْتَخِفَّنَّ بِرَجُلٍ تَرَاهُ أَبَدًا فَإِنْ كَانَ خَيْرًا مِنْكَ فَاحْسَبْ أَنَّهُ أَبُوكَ وَإِنْ كَانَ مِثْلَكَ فَهُوَ أَخُوكَ وَإِنْ كَانَ أَصْغَرَ مِنْكَ فَاحْسَبْ أَنَّهُ ابْنُكَ قَالَ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ لَمْ يَرْوِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ إِلَّا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَبُو رَجَاءٍ الْحَبَطِيُّ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الزَّيَّاتُ وَلَا يُرْوَى عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ إِلَّا بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ
