I asked 'A'isha about the Witr (prayer) of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and made mention of a hadith, then I said: What did he do after having sexual intercourse? Did he take a bath before going to sleep or did he sleep before taking a bath? She said: He did all these. Some- times he took a bath and then slept, and sometimes he performed ablution only and went to sleep. I (the narrator) said: Praise be to Allah Who has made things easy (for human beings).

عَنْ وِتْرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ قُلْتُ كَيْفَ كَانَ يَصْنَعُ فِي الْجَنَابَةِ أَكَانَ يَغْتَسِلُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ أَمْ يَنَامُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ قَالَتْ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ قَدْ كَانَ يَفْعَلُ رُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ فَنَامَ وَرُبَّمَا تَوَضَّأَ فَنَامَ قُلْتُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الأَمْرِ سَعَةً

"I asked 'Aishah: 'How did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sleep while he was Junub? Did he perform Ghusl before sleeping or sleep before performing Ghusl?' She said: 'He did both. Sometimes he would perform Ghusl then sleep, and sometimes he would perform Wudu' then sleep.'"

سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ كَيْفَ كَانَ نَوْمُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الْجَنَابَةِ أَيَغْتَسِلُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ أَوْ يَنَامُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ قَالَتْ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ قَدْ كَانَ يَفْعَلُ رُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ فَنَامَ وَرُبَّمَا تَوَضَّأَ فَنَامَ

[AI] I asked Aisha, "How was the sleep of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a state of major impurity? Does he perform Ghusl (ritual bath) before sleeping?" She replied, "He used to do that sometimes, he would perform Ghusl and then sleep, and sometimes he would perform Wudu (ablution) and then sleep." I asked her, "How was the recitation of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the night? Would he recite aloud or silently?" She said, "He would do both, sometimes he would recite aloud and sometimes he would recite silently."

سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ كَيْفَ كَانَ نَوْمُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي الْجَنَابَةِ أَيَغْتَسِلُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ؟ فَقَالَتْ كُلَّ ذَلِكَ قَدْ كَانَ يَفْعَلُ رُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ فَنَامَ وَرُبَّمَا تَوَضَّأَ فَنَامَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهَا كَيْفَ كَانَتْ قِرَاءَةُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ أَيَجْهَرُ أَمْ يُسِرُّ؟ قَالَتْ كُلَّ ذَلِكَ قَدْ كَانَ يَفْعَلُ رُبَّمَا جَهَرَ وَرُبَّمَا أَسَرَّ

[AI] Narrated Yahya ibn Yamar: I asked Aisha, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sleep while he was in a state of sexual impurity?" She replied, "Perhaps he would perform ablution before sleeping, and perhaps he would sleep before performing ablution. However, he would always perform ablution." She added, "All praise is due to Allah who made ease in religion."

عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ يَعْمَرَ قَالَسَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَنَامُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟ قَالَتْ لِي رُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَرُبَّمَا نَامَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ وَلَكِنَّهُ كَانَ يَتَوَضَّأُ قَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الدِّينِ سَعَةً

[AI] I asked Aisha, "How did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ behave when he was in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity)? Would he take a bath before sleeping, or did he sleep before taking a bath?" She said, "He would sometimes take a bath and then sleep, and sometimes he would perform ablution (wudu) and then sleep." I said, "All praise is due to Allah, who made this matter flexible." This hadith was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih from Qutaybah, and Ghudayf ibn al-Harith narrated from Aisha as well.

"عَنْ يَحيَى بْنِ يَعْمُرَ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ سَأَلَهَا رَجُلٌ: هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَرْفَعُ صَوتَهُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ إِذَا قَرَأَ؟ قَالَتْ: رُبَّمَا رَفَعَ وَرُبَّمَا خَفَضَ، قَالَ: الحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الدِّينِ سَعَةً قَالَ: هَلْ كَانَ يَنَامُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟ قَالَتْ: رُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ، وَرُبَّمَا نَامَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ وَلَكِنَّهُ يَتَوَضَّأُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ، قَالَ: الحَمْدُ للهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الدِّينِ سَعَةً".
