When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not pray at night because he was prevented from doing so by sleep- meaning, sleep overwhelmed him- or by pain, he would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا لَمْ يُصَلِّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ مَنَعَهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ نَوْمٌ أَوْ وَجَعٌ صَلَّى مِنَ النَّهَارِ ثِنْتَىْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً

'A'isha reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ missed the night prayer due to pain or any other reason, he observed twelve rak'ahs during the daytime.
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا فَاتَتْهُ الصَّلاَةُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ مِنْ وَجَعٍ أَوْ غَيْرِهِ صَلَّى مِنَ النَّهَارِ ثِنْتَىْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً
"When the Prophet (S) did not pray at night because he was prevented from it by sleep or being sleepy then he would pray twelve Rak'ah during the daytime."
كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا لَمْ يُصَلِّ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ مَنَعَهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ النَّوْمُ أَوْ غَلَبَتْهُ عَيْنَاهُ صَلَّى مِنَ النَّهَارِ ثِنْتَىْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً
[Machine] The translation of the passage into English is as follows: "Indeed, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ felt tired or in pain, and could not pray at night, he would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا غَلَبَتْهُ عَيْنُهُ أَوْ وَجِعَ فَلَمْيُصَلِّ بِاللَّيْلِ صَلَّى مِنَ النَّهَارِ اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً
