Abdullah b. Umar saw me while I was fiddling with pebbles during the prayer. When he finished, he forbade me and said, “Do as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do.” I said, “And how did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do?” He said, “When he sat in the prayer, he would place his right hand on his right thigh, clench all his fingers, and gesture with the finger next to the thumb; and he would place his left hand on his left thigh.”
