"عَن عَلىِّ بن عَبْد الرَّحْمَن الأَنْصَارِىِّ قَالَ: صَلَّيْتُ إِلى جَنْبِ ابن عُمَرَ فَرآنى أُقَلِّبُ الْحَصَى في الصَّلاَة فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قَالَ: إنَّ تَقْلِيبَ الْحَصَى في الصَّلاَةِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ، وَلكن كَمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ يَصْنَعُ إِذَا جَلَسَ في الصَّلاَةِ وَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُسْرَى بَاسِطهَا عَلَيْهَا، وَوَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَىَ فَخِذِهِ اليُمْنَى وَقَبَضَ أَصَابِعَهُ وَأَشَارَ بَأصْبعِهِ الَّتى تلِى الإِبْهَامَ".

اصْنَعْ كَمَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصْنَعُ فَقُلْتُ وَكَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصْنَعُ قَالَ كَانَ إِذَا جَلَسَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ وَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُمْنَى وَقَبَضَ أَصَابِعَهُ كُلَّهَا وَأَشَارَ بِإِصْبَعِهِ الَّتِي تَلِي الإِبْهَامَ وَوَضَعَ كَفَّهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى فَخِذِهِ الْيُسْرَى
"Ibn Umar saw me playing with the pebbles while praying. When he finished (praying), he told me not to do that and said: 'Do what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do.' I said: 'What did he used to do?' He said: 'When he sat during the prayer, he placed his right hand on his thigh and clenched all his fingers, and pointed with the finger that is next to the thumb, and he put his left hand on his left thigh."

‘Abd Allah b. ‘Umar saw me playing with pebbles during prayer. When he finished his prayer, he forbade me (to do so) and said: Do as the Apostle ﷺ used to do. I asked him: How would the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do? He said: When he sat during the prayer (for reciting the tashahhud), he placed his right hand on his right thigh, and clenched all his fingers, and pointed with the finger which is adjacent to the thumb, and he placed his left hand on his left thigh.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Muslim ibn Abi Maryam that AIi ibn Abd ar-Rahman al-Muawi said, "Abdullah ibn Umar saw me playing with some small pebbles in the prayer. When I finished he forbade me, saying, 'Do as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did.' I said, 'What did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do?' He said, 'When he sat in the prayer, he placed his right hand on his right thigh and he closed his fist and pointed his index finger, and he placed his left hand on his left thigh. That is what he used to do.' "
