It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade traveling with the Qur’an to the land of the enemy, lest the enemy gets hold of it. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2879)
«نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُسَافَرَ بِالْقُرْآنِ إِلَى أَرْضِ الْعَدُوِّ مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَنَالَهُ الْعَدُوُّ»

ذِكْرُ الْإِخْبَارِ عَنْ وَصْفِ خَيْرِ الْجُيُوشِ وَالصَّحَابَةِ
The Prophet ﷺ said: The best number of companions is four, the best number in expeditions four hundred, and the best number in armies four thousand; and twelve thousand will not be overcome through smallness of numbers. Abu Dawud said: What is correct is that this tradition is mursal (i.e. the link of the Companion is missing). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2611)
[Machine] "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said on the day of Uhud, when they had exhausted him and he was with seven of the Ansar and a man from the Quraysh: 'Whoever turns them away from us will be my companion in Paradise.' So a man from the Ansar stood up and fought until he was killed, then another one stood up and fought until he was killed. This continued until all seven were saying the same thing, and they were all killed. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Our companions were not given their due. O Allah, if You will, You can be worshipped on earth.'"
On the day he returned from the Battle of Ahzab, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made for us an announcement that nobody would say his Zuhr prayer but in the quarters of Banu Quraiza (Some) people, being afraid that the time for prayer would expire, said their prayers before reaching the street of Banu Quraiza. The others said: We will not say our prayer except where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has ordered us to say it even if the time expires. When he learned of the difference in the view of the two groups of the people, the Messenger of Allah (may peace be tipon him) did not blame anyone from the two groups. (Using translation from Muslim 1770)
[Machine] The translation into English is: "For me, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'When my messengers come to you, give them or return to them thirty camels or thirty shields.' I said, 'Are they also deserving if they are naked, O Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'Yes.'"
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ went out one day towards Badr and started consulting the people. Abu Bakr then pointed at him with his hand, and the Prophet ﷺ consulted them. Umar also pointed at him with his hand, and the Prophet ﷺ consulted them. Then the Ansar said, "By Allah, he does not intend anyone other than us." A man from the Ansar said, "I think you are consulting and they are giving you advice, but we will not say as the Children of Israel said to Moses, 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight!'" However, by the One who sent you with the truth, if you were to strike their livers until you reached the mountain passes, we would still be with you.

Suddenly they found the watering Camels of the Quraish, there was among them a black slave of Banu Al Hajjaj. The Companions of the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ seized him and began to ask “Where is Abu Sufyan?” He said “I swear by Allaah, I do not know anything about him, but this is the Quraish who have come here, among them are Abu Jahl, ‘Utbah, Shaibah the two sons of Rabi’ah and Umayyah bin Khalaf. When he aid this to them, they beat him and he began to say “Leave me, leave me. I shall tell you. When they left him he said “I know nothing about Abu Sufyan, but this is the Quraish who have come (here), among them are Abu Jahl, ‘Utbah, Shaibah the two sons of Rab’iah and Umayyah bin Khalaf who have come here. The Prophet ﷺ was praying and hearing all that (dialogue). When he finished, he said “By Him in Whose hand my soul is, you beat him when he speaks the truth to you and you leave him when he tells a lie. This is the Quraish who have come here to defend Abu Sufyan. Anas said, The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ said “This will be the place of falling of so and so tomorrow and he placed his hand on the ground. This will be the place of falling of so and so tomorrow and he put his hand on the ground. And this will be the place of falling of so and so tomorrow and he put his hand on the ground. He (Ansas) said “By Him in Whose hand my soul is, no one fell beyond the place of the hand of the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ, The Apostle of Allaah ﷺ ordered for them, and they were caught by their feet and dragged and thrown in a well at Badr. We set out on an expedition with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. We were six in number and had (with us) only one camel which we rode turn by turn Our feet were injured. My feet were so badly injured that my nails dropped off. We covered our feet with rags. so this expedition was called Dhat-ur-Riqa' (i. e. the expedition of rags) because we bandaged our feet with rags (on that day). [Machine] "When it was the Day of the Confederates or the Day of Uhud and we encountered the polytheists, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ assembled an army of archers and appointed Abdullah ibn Jubayr as their commander. He said, 'Do not leave your positions. If you see us prevailing over them, do not come to our aid. But if you see them prevailing over us, do not hesitate to assist us.'
When we encountered the enemy, the Muslims emerged victorious, to the point where you could see the women heading towards the mountains, letting loose their hair and saying, 'The spoils! The spoils!' Abdullah called out to them, 'Wait, haven't you heard what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed you?' So they returned.
When they approached the enemy, Allah diverted their attention from us, and the Muslims suffered ninety casualties. Then Abu Sufyan, who was on a high mound, asked, 'Is Muhammad among the people?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do not respond to him.' Then he asked, 'Is the son of Abu Quhafa among the people?' He repeated this question three times, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do not respond to him.' Then he asked, 'Is Umar ibn Al-Khattab among the people?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Do not respond to him.'
Then he turned to his companions and said, 'As for these people who were killed, if they were alive, they would have responded to him.' 'Umar could not control himself and said, 'You lie, O enemy of Allah! Allah has kept for us such things that will disgrace you.' Abu Sufyan said, 'Hobal! Hobal!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Respond to him.' They asked, 'What should we say?' He replied, 'Say, "Allah is the Most High and Most Honorable."'
Abu Sufyan said, 'We have lineage and you do not.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Respond to him.' They asked, 'What should we say?' He replied, 'Say, "Allah is our Protector and you have no protector."'
Then Abu Sufyan said, 'A day for a day, the war is a scale. Surely, you will find among them some who were not commanded by me to be killed, nor did they harm me.'

Sulaiman bin Buraidah reported on the authority of his father. When the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ appointed a Commander over an Army or a detachment, he instructed him to fear Allaah himself and consider the welfare of the Muslims who were with him. He then said “When you meet the polytheists who are your enemy, summon them tone of three things and accept whichever of them they are willing to agree to, and refrain from them. Summon them to Islam and if they agree, accept it from them and refrain from them. Then summon them to leave their territory and transfer to the abode of the Emigrants and tell them that if they do so, they will have the same rights and responsibilities as the Emigrants, but if they refuse and choose their own abode, tell them that they will be like the desert Arabs who are Muslims subject to Allaah’s jurisdiction which applies to the believers, but will have no spoil or booty unless they strive with the Muslims. If they refuse demand jizyah (poll tax) from them, if they agree accept it from them and refrain from them. But if they refuse, seek Alaah’s help and fight with them. When you invade the fortress and they (its people) offer to capitulate and have the matter referred to Allaah’s jurisdiction, do not grant this, for you do not know whether or not you will hit on Allaah’s jurisdiction regarding them. But let them capitulate and have the matter refereed to your jurisdiction and make a decision about them later on as you wish. Sufyan (bin ‘Uyainah) said thah ‘Alqamah said “I mentioned this tradition to Muqatil bin Habban, He said “Muslim narrated it to me.” Abu Dawud said “He is Ibn Haidam narrated from Al Nu’man in Muqqarin from the Prophet ﷺ like the tradition of Sulaiman bin Buraidah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed AbuBakr our commander and we fought with some people who were polytheists, and we attacked them at night, killing them. Our war-cry that night was "put to death; put to death." Salamah said: I killed that night with my hand polytheists belonging to seven houses. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 2638)

[Machine] The messenger of Allahﷺ sent Khalid ibn Al-Walid to Jathima. He called them to Islam, but they did not respond by saying "we have embraced Islam". Instead, they kept saying "saba'na, saba'na" (we have become Sabians). So Khalid took them captive and killed some of them. He distributed prisoners of war among the Muslim soldiers, until one day Khalid said, "I will kill all your captives." We then went to the messenger of Allahﷺ and mentioned Khalid's actions to him. The Prophetﷺ raised his hands and said, "O Allah, I dissociate myself from what Khalid has done."

The Messenger of Allah may peace be upon him) sent us to Huraqat, a tribe of Juhaina. We attacked that tribe early in the morning and defeated them and I and a man from the Ansar caught hold of a person (of the defeated tribe). When we overcame him, he said: There is no god but Allah. At that moment the Ansari spared him, but I attacked him with my spear and killed him. The news had already reached the Apostle (peace be upon him), so when we came back he (the Apostle) said to me: Usama, did you kill him after he had made the profession: There is no god but Allah? I said. Messenger of Allah, he did it only as a shelter. The Prophet observed: Did you kill him after he had made the profession that there is no god but Allah? He (the Holy Prophet) went on repeating this to me till I wished I had not embraced Islam before that day. (Using translation from Muslim 96b)

That the Prophet ﷺ would not attack except near the time of Fajr, so if he heard the Adhan he would refrain, and if not, then he would attack. So he listened one day and heard a man saying: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar," so he said: "Upon the Fitrah." Then he said: "I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah." So he said: "You have departed from the Fire." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1618)

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to whisper something when he prayed the days of Hunayn. It was said to him, 'Indeed, you are doing something that you did not used to do before.' He said, 'I say, 'O Allah, with Your help, I make attempts, with Your help, I strive, and with Your help, I fight.'"

[Machine] "A delegation came to Muawiyah during Ramadan, which included me and Abu Hurairah. Some of us would prepare food for others. Abu Hurairah would often invite us to his journey, so I said, "If I prepare food and invite them to my journey, would you permit me?" He agreed. So I prepared the food, then I met Abu Hurairah in the evening and said, "O Abu Hurairah, the invitation is with me tonight." He replied, "You beat me to it." He invited them to my journey. Abu Hurairah said, "Should I accompany you or speak to you? I have a story to tell you, O Ansar, until the food arrives." He mentioned the conquest of Mecca and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived and entered Mecca. He sent Zubair to one side and Khalid bin Al-Walid to the other, and sent Abu Ubaidah to the Husar. They took control of the valley while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in a tent. Quraysh sent us messengers, saying, 'We will give you anything you ask for if you present them to us, and if they are harmed, we will compensate them.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked at me, and he said, 'O Abu Hurairah, announce to the Ansar, so that only my Ansar will come to me.'"
Abu Hurairah called out to the Ansar, and they came and surrounded the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . He then said, "Do you see the messengers of Quraysh and their followers?" and he struck the fingers of his right hand against the palm of his left hand and said, "Capture them and don't release them until you meet me at Safa." Abu Hurairah said, "So we went, and whenever anyone from among us wanted to kill someone from them, he was killed, and whenever any of them indicated anything to us, we followed their requests."
Abu Sufyan said, "O Messenger of Allah, are they granted amnesty?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever closes his door is safe, and whoever enters the house of Abu Sufyan is safe." So they closed their doors and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and took the Black Stone, circled the Ka'bah with it, and had a bow in his hand. Near the Ka'bah was an idol that they used to worship. The Prophet ﷺ struck it with the bow and said, "The truth has come and falsehood has vanished."
After completing the Tawaf, he came to Safa and stood facing the Ka'bah, raising his hands and praising Allah and mentioning whatever He willed. The Ansar stood beneath him and said to each other, "This man has fulfilled his desire for his land and his concern for his tribe." Abu Hurairah said, "It was not hidden from us that whenever the revelation came down, none of us looked at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and no one would approach him until the revelation was completed. When the revelation ended, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'O Ansar, you said, 'This man has fulfilled his desire for his land and his concern for his tribe.'' They said, 'Indeed, O Messenger of Allah, we said that.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'No, I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger. I migrated for the sake of Allah, and your life is equivalent to mine, and your death is equivalent to mine.'"
They began to weep and say, "By Allah, what we said was only a guess regarding Allah and His Messenger." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah and His Messenger have sworn allegiance to you and will excuse you."

We were sitting in the company of Abdullah and he was lying on the bed that a person came and said: Abd Abd al-Rabmin, a story-teller at the gates of Kinda says that the verse (of the Qur'an) which deals with the" smoke" implies that which is about to come and it would hold the breath of the infidels and would inflict the believers with cold. Thereupon Abdullah got up and said in anger. O people, fear Allah and say only that which one knows amongst you and do not say which he does not know and he should simply say: Allah has the best knowledge for He has the best knowledge amongst all of you. It does not behove him to say that which he does not know. Allah has the best knowledge of it. Verily Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said to His Prophet ﷺ to state:" I do not ask from you any remuneration and I am not the one to put you in trouble," and when Allah's Mesqenger ﷺ saw people turning back (from religion) he said: O Allah, afflict thern with seven famines as was done in the case of Yusuf, so they were afflicted with famine by which they were forced to eat everything until they were obliged to eat the hides and the dead bodies because of hunger, and every one of them looked towards the sky and he found a smoke. And Abu Sufyan came and he said: Muhammad, you have come to command us to obey Allah and cement the ties of blood- relation whereas your people are undone; supplicate Allah for tlicm. Thereupon Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said:" Wait for the day when there would be clear smoke from the sky which would envelop people and that would be grievous torivent" up to the words:" you are going to return to (evil)." (if this verse implied the torment of the next life) could the chastisement of the next (life) be averted (as the Qur'an states): On the day when We seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We shall exact retribution" (xliv. 16)? The seizing (in the hadith) implies that of the Day of Badr. And so far as the sign of smoke, seizing, inevitability and signs of Rome are concern- ed, they have become things of the past now.
