Collected by Abū Dāwūd, Ibn Mājah, Aḥmad, Ḥākim, Ibn Ḥibbān, Nasāʾī's KubráI heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The wind comes from Allah's mercy. Salamah's version has: It is Allah's mercy; it (sometimes) brings blessing and (sometimes) brings punishment. So when you see it, do not revile it, but ask Allah for some of its good, and seek refuge in Allah from its evil.
"Do not curse the wind, for it is from the mercy of Allah, bringing Rahmah (i.e., rain and breezes), or destruction. But ask Allah for its goodness, and seek refuge with Allah from its evil."
[Machine] They asked me about the wind, but I could not provide them with any information. Then, Omar asked me about it, so I made an effort and followed my camel until I caught up with him. I said, "O Amir al-Mu'minin, I was informed that you asked about the wind. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say that the wind is from the spirit of Allah. It brings mercy and punishment. So, when you see it, do not curse it, but seek the goodness in it and seek refuge in Allah from its evil."
[Machine] From him, Umar, I sought permission to embark on my journey until I reached him. Then I said, "O Commander of the Believers, I was informed that you asked about the wind. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'The wind is from the breath of Allah, bringing both mercy and punishment. So do not curse it, rather ask Allah for its goodness and seek refuge in Allah from its harm.'"
