It is stated by sayidina Abu Hurayrah (ra) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said "Wind is the mercy of Allah. It brings mercy or punishment. Do not denounce it but ask Allah, the exalted, for the good of it and seek the protection of Allah from its evil.”

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الرِّيحُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللهِ تَأْتِي بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَالْعَذَابِ فَلاَ تَسُبُّوهَا وَلَكِنْ سَلُوا اللَّهَ مِنْ خَيْرِهَا وَتَعَوَّذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: The wind comes from Allah's mercy. Salamah's version has: It is Allah's mercy; it (sometimes) brings blessing and (sometimes) brings punishment. So when you see it, do not revile it, but ask Allah for some of its good, and seek refuge in Allah from its evil.

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الرِّيحُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللَّهِ قَالَ سَلَمَةُ فَرَوْحُ اللَّهِ تَأْتِي بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَتَأْتِي بِالْعَذَابِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَلاَ تَسُبُّوهَا وَسَلُوا اللَّهَ خَيْرَهَا وَاسْتَعِيذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا

"Do not curse the wind, for it is from the mercy of Allah, bringing Rahmah (i.e., rain and breezes), or destruction. But ask Allah for its goodness, and seek refuge with Allah from its evil."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لاَ تَسُبُّوا الرِّيحَ فَإِنَّهَا مِنْ رَوْحِ اللَّهِ تَأْتِي بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَالْعَذَابِ وَلَكِنْ سَلُوا اللَّهَ مِنْ خَيْرِهَا وَتَعَوَّذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا

"Do not curse the wind, for it is from the mercy of Allah, bringing Rahmah (i.e., rain and breezes), or destruction. But ask Allah for its goodness, and seek refuge with Allah from its evil." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3727)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَا تَسُبُّوا الرِّيحَ فَإِنَّهَا تَجِيءُ بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَالْعَذَابِ وَلَكِنْ سَلُوا اللهَ خَيْرَهَا وَتَعَوَّذُوا بِاللهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا

[AI] They asked me about the wind, but I could not provide them with any information. Then, Omar asked me about it, so I made an effort and followed my camel until I caught up with him. I said, "O Amir al-Mu'minin, I was informed that you asked about the wind. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say that the wind is from the spirit of Allah. It brings mercy and punishment. So, when you see it, do not curse it, but seek the goodness in it and seek refuge in Allah from its evil."

يُحَدِّثُنَا عَنِ الرِّيحِ؟ فَلَمْ يُرْجِعُوا إِلَيْهِ شَيْئًا فَبَلَغَنِي الَّذِي سَأَلَ عَنْهُ عُمَرُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَاسْتَحْثَثْتُ رَاحِلَتِي حَتَّى أَدْرَكْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أُخْبِرْتُ أَنَّكَ سَأَلْتَ عَنِ الرِّيحِ وَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الرِّيحُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللهِ تَأْتِي بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَتَأْتِي بِالْعَذَابِفَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهَا فَلَا تَسُبُّوهَا وَسَلُوا اللهَ خَيْرَهَا وَاسْتَعِيذُوا بِهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا

[AI] "Upon hearing this, I hastened my camel until I caught up with him. I said, 'O Commander of the Believers, I have heard that you inquired about the wind. I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The wind is from the breath of Allah, so do not curse it. Rather, ask Allah for its good and seek refuge in Him from its evil.'"

عَنْهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَاسْتَحْثَثْتُ رَاحِلَتِي حَتَّى أَدْرَكْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّكَ سَأَلْتَ عَنِ الرِّيحِ وَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الرِّيحُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللهِ فَلَا تَسُبُّوهَا وَسَلُوا اللهَ خَيْرَهَا وَاسْتَعِيذُوا بِهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا

[AI] "The people took the road to Mecca, but the wind became intense upon them. 'Umar asked those around him, 'What is this wind?' They did not respond to him. Then, I was informed about his question, so I hastened my camel until I caught up with him. I said, 'O Amir al-Mu'minin, I have been informed that you asked about the wind. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'The wind is from the breath of Allah. It brings mercy and it brings punishment, so do not curse it, rather ask Allah for its good and seek protection from its evil.'"

أَخَذَتِ النَّاسَ الرِّيحُ بِطَرِيقِ مَكَّةَ فَاشْتَدَّتْ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُ مَا الرِّيحُ؟ فَلَمْ يَرْجِعُوا إِلَيْهِ شَيْئًا فَبَلَغَنِي الَّذِي سَأَلَ عَنْهُ فَاسْتَحْثَثْتُ رَاحِلَتِي حَتَّى أَدْرَكْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أُخْبِرْتُ أَنَّكَ سَأَلْتَ عَنِ الرِّيحِ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الرِّيحُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللهِ تَأْتِي بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَتَأْتِي بِالْعَذَابِ فَلَا تَسُبُّوهَا وَسَلُوا اللهَ مِنْ خَيْرِهَا وَعُوذُوا بِهِمِنْ شَرِّهَا

[AI] From him, Umar, I sought permission to embark on my journey until I reached him. Then I said, "O Commander of the Believers, I was informed that you asked about the wind. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'The wind is from the breath of Allah, bringing both mercy and punishment. So do not curse it, rather ask Allah for its goodness and seek refuge in Allah from its harm.'"

عَنْهُ عُمَرُ فَاسْتَحْثَثْتُ رَاحِلَتِي حَتَّى أَدْرَكْتُهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أُخْبِرْتُ أَنَّكَ سَأَلْتَ عَنِ الرِّيحِ وَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «الرِّيحُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى تَأْتِي بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَتَأْتِي بِالْعَذَابِ فَلَا تَسُبُّوهَا سَلُوا اللَّهَ خَيْرَهَا وَاسْتَعِيذُوا بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The wind is sent from Allah's soul, it is sent with mercy and it is sent with punishment, so do not curse it, and say: O Allah, we ask You for its goodness and seek refuge in You from its evil."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الرِّيحُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللهِ تُرْسَلُ بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَتُرْسَلُ بِالْعَذَابِ فَلَا تَسُبُّوهَا وَقُولُوا اللهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَهَا وَنَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهَا

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not curse the wind, but ask Allah for its goodness and seek refuge in Him from its evil."

النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «لَا تَسُبُّوا الرِّيحَ وَلَكِنْ سَلُوا اللهَ مِنْ خَيْرِهَا وَتَعَوَّذُوا بِهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, the wind is from the breath of Allah. It brings both mercy and punishment, so do not curse it. Seek goodness from it and seek refuge in Allah from its harm."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ الرِّيحَ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللهِ تَجِيءُ بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَبِالْعَذِابِ فَلَا تَسُبُّوهَا وَسَلُوهُ مِنْ خَيْرِهَا وَتَعَوَّذُوا بِهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا»

[AI] "Do not curse the wind, for it is from the breath of the Most Merciful, so ask Allah for its goodness and seek refuge with Him from its harm."

«لَا تَسُبُّوا الرِّيحَ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ نَفَسِ الرَّحْمَنِ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى وَلَكِنْ سَلُوا اللهَ خَيْرَهَا وَتَعَوَّذُوا بِهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "The wind is from the breath of Allah. It brings mercy and it brings punishment. So do not curse it, and ask Allah for its goodness and seek refuge in Allah from its evil."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ الرِّيحُ مِنْ رَوْحِ اللهِ ﷻ تَأْتِي بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَتَأْتِي بِالْعَذَابِ فَلَا تَسُبُّوهَا وَاسْأَلُوا اللهَ ﷻ خَيْرَهَا وَاسْتَعِيذُوا بِاللهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا

"الرِّيحُ مِنْ رَوْحِ الله تَأْتى بِالرَّحْمَةِ وتأَتِى بِالْعَذَابِ، فإِذَا رَأيتُمُوها فَلا تسُبُّوها، وَاسْألُوا الله خيرَهَا، واسْتَعِيذُوا باللهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا".

"لَا تَسُبُّوا الرِّيحَ، فَإِنَّهَا مِنْ رَوْحِ الله، تَأتِي بِالرِّحْمَةِ وَالْعَذَابِ، وَلَكِنْ سَلُوا الله مِنْ خَيرِهَا، وَتَعَوَّذُوا بِالله مِنْ شَرِّهَا".
