6. Chapter of Jīm (Male) (4/21)
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "The punishment for a magician is to be killed by the sword."
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , he sent a group and appointed Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah or Ubaydah as their leader. When he went to depart, Subabah (the wife of Abu Ubaydah) wept and went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . She sat down and he sent Abdullah bin Jahsh in his place and wrote a letter to him, instructing him not to read the letter until he reached a certain place. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not force anyone from your companions to travel with you." When he read the letter, he reconsidered and said, "We listen and obey Allah and His Messenger." He informed them of the news and read the letter to them. Two men returned and the rest continued on. They met Ibn al-Hadrami and killed him without realizing that it was Rajab or Jumada [lunar months] (the sacred months). The disbelievers then said to the Muslims, "You killed in the sacred month." Allah revealed the verse, "They ask you about the sacred month - about fighting therein. Say, 'Fighting therein is great [sin], but averting [people] from the way of Allah and disbelief in Him and [preventing access to] al-Masjid al-Haram and the expulsion of its people therefrom are greater [evil] in the sight of Allah. And fitnah is greater than killing.' And they will continue to fight you until they turn you back from your religion if they are able. And whoever of you reverts from his religion [to disbelief] and dies while he is a disbeliever - for those, their deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter. And those are the companions of the Fire, they will abide therein eternally" (Quran 2:217). Some of them said, "If they had not encountered us, they would not be burdened with sin." Allah revealed, "Indeed, those who have believed and those who have emigrated and fought in the cause of Allah - those expect the mercy of Allah. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful" (Quran 2:218).
عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ بَعَثَ رَهْطًا وَبَعَثَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ أَوْ عُبَيْدَةَ فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ لِيَنْطَلِقَ بَكَى صُبَابَةُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَلَسَ فَبَعَثَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ جَحْشٍ مَكَانَهُ وَكَتَبَ لَهُ كِتَابًا وَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ لَا يَقْرَأَ الْكِتَابَ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ مَكَانَ كَذَا وَكَذَا وَقَالَ «لَا تُكْرِهَنَّ أَحَدًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِكَ عَلَى الْمَسِيرِ مَعَكَ» فَلَمَّا قَرَأَ الْكِتَابَ اسْتَرْجَعَ ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمْعٌ وَطَاعَةٌ لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَخَبَّرَهُمُ الْخَبَرَ وَقَرَأَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْكِتَابَ فَرَجَعَ رَجُلَانِ وَمَضَى بَقِيَّتُهُمْ فَلَقُوا ابْنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ فَقَتَلُوهُ وَلَمْ يَدْرُوا أَنَّ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ رَجَبٍ أَوْ جُمَادَى فَقَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ قَتَلْتُمْ فِي الشَّهْرِ الْحَرَامِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الشَّهْرِ الْحَرَامِ قِتَالٍ فِيهِ} الْآيَةَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِنْ لَمْ يَكُونُوا أَصَابُوا وِزْرًا فَلَيْسَ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَالَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا وَجَاهَدُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ أُولَئِكَ يَرْجُونَ رَحْمَةَ اللهِ وَاللهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ}

[Machine] A man came to Abu Dharr, offering him charity. Abu Dharr replied: "We have young she-camels that we milk, and (we have) red camels that we ride, and emancipated slaves that serve us, and the surplus of a cloak that protects us from being naked. Indeed, I fear being held accountable for the surplus (that I possess)."
[Machine] So I said to Abu Dharr, "What is the matter with the black dog?" He said, "Indeed, I have asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that, and he said, 'Verily, it is a devil.'"
[Machine] The messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Abu Dharr, there will be leaders upon you who will not establish the prayer. If you witness them, then pray the prayer at its time and join your prayer with theirs as Sunnah."
[Machine] Indeed, my beloved ﷺ has entrusted me that "any gold, silver, or any precious item that is entrusted to me is a burning coal on its owner until they spend it in the way of Allah."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "The black dog and the woman interrupt the prayer." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is the matter with the black dog compared to the white or red dog?" He said, "Indeed, the black dog is a devil."
[Machine] On the authority of Abu Dharr, the following hadith was narrated to me: I longed to meet him, so I met him and said, "O Abu Dharr, there used to be a hadith that reached me about you, so I longed to meet you." He replied, "By Allah, you have met me. What do you want?" I said, "There is a hadith that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ narrate to you." He said, "Indeed, Allah loves three and dislikes three." I said, "May I be mentioned as lying about the Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Say it." So I asked, "Who are the three that Allah loves?" He said, "A man who fights in the cause of Allah with perseverance and expectation of reward, even if he is killed. And you find him in the Book of Allah: 'Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in a row as though they are a [single] structure joined firmly' (Quran 61:4)." Then he recited this verse: "Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in a row as though they are a [single] structure joined firmly" (Quran 61:4). I asked, "And who are they?" He replied, "A man who has a bad neighbor who harms him, but he bears it with patience until Allah relieves him from him in this life or the next." I asked, "And who are they?" He replied, "A man who travels with a group until they stop to rest at the end of the night, then they are struck by a drowsiness or fatigue, so they strike their heads. Then he wakes up and performs ablution out of desire for Allah and out of his need for it." I asked, "And who are the three that Allah dislikes?" He replied, "The miserly, the arrogant, and you find them in the Book of Allah: 'Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful' (Quran 31:18)." I asked, "And who are they?" He replied, "The merchant who is deceitful or the buyer who is deceitful." I said, "I do not know which one." Abu Dharr said, "O Abu Dharr, what is wealth?" He replied, "It is a loss for us and a taste." I said, "O Abu Dharr, that is not what I am asking you. I am only asking you about the one who keeps his wealth silent." He replied, "He does not find himself in the morning or the evening. I said, "What about you and your brothers from the Quraysh?" He replied, "By Allah, I do not ask them about religion, nor do I ask them about this worldly life, until I meet Allah and His Messenger." He repeated this statement three times.

The Prophet ﷺ said: The best things with which grey hair are changed are henna and katam. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4205)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said and mentioned Zamzam, then he said, "Indeed, it is blessed water and a nourishment for hunger."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever is entrusted with gold or silver and does not spend it in the way of Allah, it will be a burning coal for them on the Day of Resurrection."
[Machine] He heard Abu Zaynab, the servant of Hazim Al-Ghifari, say: I heard Abu Dharr say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: "O Abu Dharr, shall I not teach you a treasure from the treasures of Paradise?" I said: Yes, by my father and mother. He said: "Say: There is no power or might except with Allah."
Sense of contentment is what makes one truly wealthy or poor
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, “O Abū Dharr, Do you think that having wealth is being wealthy?” He said, “Yes.” He ansked, “And do you think that not having wealth is poverty?” He said, “Yes.” He then said three things. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “In fact, true wealth is in the heart and true poverty is in the heart: Whoever's richness is in his heart; will not be harmed no matter what happens to him in the world; Whoever is poor in his heart, he will not be satisfied no matter how much he has gained in the world. In fact he is only harmed by the greed of his own soul.”
[Machine] "He met Abu Dharr wearing a cloak, driving a camel with two ropes around its neck. One of the ropes was a bit longer than the other. He asked, 'O Abu Dharr, what is wrong with you?' Abu Dharr replied, 'It is my duty.' He said, 'You should have come to me and I would have told you.' Abu Dharr said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "If two Muslims die between them three, Allah will forgive them by His mercy."'
[Machine] He met Abu Dharr wearing a robe, driving a camel that had two neckbands. Near the camel's neck was a pendant. He said, "O Abu Dharr, what is with you?" He said to me, "My work." I said, "Tell me, may Allah have mercy on you." He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'There is no Muslim who dies between two Muslims but they have not reached the level of committing major sins, but Allah will forgive them by His mercy.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever spends two pairs [of animals] from his wealth in the way of Allah, the two barriers to Paradise will embrace him, two camels, two horses, two sets of armor, two dirhams, and two sandals."
[Machine] I heard Abu Dharr Al-Ghifari while he was on the pulpit saying, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Whoever comes close to Allah by a handspan, Allah will come close to him by a forearm's length. Whoever comes close to Allah by a forearm's length, Allah will come close to him by a distance of two arms. And whoever comes to Allah walking, Allah will come to him running. And Allah is greater and more majestic, and Allah is greater and more majestic, and Allah is greater and more majestic.'"
[Machine] We left the Messenger of Allah and every bird that flaps its wings in the air reminded us of him by its knowledge. He ﷺ said, "There is nothing that brings you closer to Paradise and keeps you further away from the Fire except that it has been made clear to you."
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me to maintain good relations with my relatives even if they cut off relations with me, to speak the truth even if it is bitter, to not take blame for the sake of Allah from any blamer, to love the poor and sit with them, to look at those below me and not at those above me, and to frequently say 'There is no power or strength except in Allah.'"
[Machine] "My beloved friend (Prophet Muhammad) advised me with seven things: to love the poor and to approach them, to look at those who are lower than me and not to look at those who are above me, to maintain family ties even if they cut off their relationship with me, to say 'there is no power or might except in Allah' frequently, to speak the truth even if it leads to blame from others, and not to ask people for anything."
[Machine] Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah, what will save a person from the Hellfire?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Faith in Allah." Abu Dharr then asked, "O Prophet of Allah, along with faith, what actions should a person do?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "He should give from what Allah has provided for him." Abu Dharr further asked, "O Messenger of Allah, what about a person who is poor and cannot give anything?" The Prophet ﷺ responded, "He should encourage good and forbid evil." Abu Dharr asked again, "O Messenger of Allah, what if a person is blind and cannot command good or forbid evil?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "He should assist the weak." Abu Dharr continued questioning, "O Messenger of Allah, what if a person is physically weak and cannot help the oppressed?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "What would you think if you do not leave any good deed for your companion that keeps harm away from people?" Abu Dharr then asked, "O Messenger of Allah, if a person does all of that, will they enter Paradise?" The Prophet ﷺ answered, "Any Muslim who possesses even one of these qualities will be taken by the hand, until they enter Paradise."

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, advise me." He said, "I advise you to have taqwa (God consciousness) of Allah, for it is the head of your affairs." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, increase me." He said, "Recite the Quran frequently and remember Allah, for indeed, that will be light for you in the heavens and in the earth." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, increase me." He said, "Do not laugh excessively, for it kills the heart and takes away the light from the face." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, increase me." He said, "Engage in jihad, for it is the monasticism of my nation (Ummah)." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, increase me." He said, "Maintain silence, except for that which is good, for it is a means of repelling Satan from you and an assistance to you in your religious affairs." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, increase me." He said, "Look at those who are below you and do not look at those who are above you, for it is more appropriate that you do not belittle the blessings of Allah upon you." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, increase me." He said, "Maintain relations with your relatives even if they cut you off." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, increase me." He said, "Do not fear the blame of anyone in Allah's cause." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, increase me." He said, "Love for the people what you love for yourself." "Whoever prays Subh, then he is under the protection of Allah's covenant, so do not infringe at all upon Allah's covenant." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 2164)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Whoever prays the Fajr prayer is under the protection of Allah, so beware, O son of Adam, that Allah does not ask you about anything from His protection."

[Machine] Indeed, these people have indulged in their desires and have allied themselves with the world. They have exceeded limits in building, and I swear by Allah that not much time will pass before the camel becomes the ruler, the two ropes and the Qatb become more beloved to one of you than a great fortress. You know that I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'None of you should hinder him from Paradise when he sees its gate filled with blood of a Muslim, shed unlawfully.' Indeed, whoever prays the dawn prayer is under the protection of Allah, so Allah does not ask you for anything from His protection."

Whoever prays Fajr (dawn prayer) is under the protection of Allah, O son of Adam, so do not let Allah call you to account for anything from His protection."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever can keep a distance between himself and Paradise that is equal to the space occupied by a handful of blood that he spills, as if he is slaughtering a chicken each time he approaches one of the doors of Paradise, then that person should do so. And whoever among you can let nothing enter his stomach except what is pure, then verily the first thing that will rot from a human being is his stomach."

[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ, he said that Adam met Moses and Moses said to him, "You are Adam whom Allah created with His own hands and made you dwell in His Paradise and caused His angels to prostrate before you. Then you disobeyed Him and caused your offspring to be outcast from Paradise." Adam replied, "You are Moses whom Allah chose for His Message and whom He spoke to directly. He brought you near Him as a confidential servant. Yes, you are the one.” Moses asked, "Do you think that you have precedence over me?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "So, Adam overcame Moses in argument”
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "A man among those who came before you was wounded, and he became afraid of his wound. So, he took a knife, and he cut his hand with it, and the blood did not stop flowing until he died. Then Allah ﷻ said: 'My servant hastened his death, so I have forbidden Paradise for him.'"

After the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer, the man approached his camel, untied its reins, mounted it, and said, "O Allah, have mercy on me and Muhammad, and do not include anyone else in Your mercy." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then asked, "What are you saying? Is he more astray than his camel? Indeed, a wide mercy has been prohibited. Allah created one hundred mercies, and He sent down from them one mercy that is shared by the creatures, whether jinn, humans, or animals. With Him are ninety-nine mercies. Do you say that he is more astray than his camel?"

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever says (something) about the Qur'an according to his own opinion and he is correct, yet he has committed a mistake." This Hadith is Gharib. Some of the people of Hadith have criticized Suhail bin Abi Hazm. [Imam At-Tirmidhi said:] This is how it has been reported from some of the people of knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, and others. They were very stern about this - about explaining the Qur'an without knowledge. As for what has been related from Mujãhid, Qatadah and others, among the people of knowledge, that they would interpret the Qur'an, then it should not be thought about them that they would say something about the Qur'an, or interpret it without knowledge, or according to their own intellect. Rather that which proves what we have said has been reported from them, that they would not say something from themselves without knowledge. Husain bin Mahdi Al-Basri narrated to us (he said: AbdurRazzaq narrated to us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah who said): "There is no Ayah in the Qur'an except that I have heard something about it." Ibn Abi 'Umar narrated to us (he said): "Sufyan bin 'Uyainah narrated to us, from Al-A'mash who said: 'Mujãhid said: If you recited the recitation of Ibn Mas'ud, you would not need to ask Ibn 'Abbãs about much of what you ask him regarding the Qur'an." Recite the Qur'an as long as your hearts agree to do so, and when you feel variance between them (between your hearts and tongues), then get up (and leave its recital for the time being). (Using translation from Muslim 2667a)
