The Messenger of Allah commanded that places of prayer be established in villages, and that they be purified and perfumed.  

ابن ماجة:٧٥٩ – حَدَّثَنَا رِزْقُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ تُتَّخَذَ الْمَسَاجِدُ فِي الدُّورِ وَأَنْ تُطَهَّرَ وَتُطَيَّبَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to build mosques in different localities (i.e. in the locality of each tribe separately) and that they should be kept clean and be perfumed.  

أبو داود:٤٥٥ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ زَائِدَةَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِبِنَاءِ الْمَسَاجِدِ فِي الدُّورِ وَأَنْ تُنَظَّفَ وَتُطَيَّبَ  

tirmidhi:594 – Muḥammad b. Ḥātim al-Muʾaddib al-Baghdādī al-Baṣrī > ʿĀmir b. Ṣāliḥ al-Zubayrī > from And Lad al-Zubayr > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father > ʿĀʾishah

"The Prophet ordered the construction of Masajid in all Dur and that they be kept clean and scented."
