The two rakahs after Asr in Aishah’s house

ibnkhuzaymah:1214 – ʿAlī b. Ḥujr > Ismāʿīl b. Jaʿfar > Muḥammad b. Abī Ḥarmalah > Abū Salamah

He asked Aishah about the two prostrations that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray after Asr in her house. She said: He used to pray them before Asr, then he was kept busy from them or forgot them, so he prayed them after Asr; then he kept to them regularly. Whenever he prayed a prayer, he kept to it regularly.

ابن خزيمة:١٢١٤ – وَالدَّلِيلُ عَلَى مَا ذَكَرْتُ أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ حُجْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا قَالَ حدثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حدثنا مُحَمَّدٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي حَرْمَلَةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ عَائِشَةَ عَنِ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّيهِمَا بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فِي بَيْتِهَا، قَالَتْ: كَانَ يُصَلِّيهِمَا قَبْلَ الْعَصْرِ، ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ شُغِلَ عَنْهُمَا أَوْ نَسِيَهُمَا، فَصَلَّاهُمَا بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ، ثُمَّ أَثْبَتَهُمَا، وَكَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى صَلَاةً أَثْبَتَهَا.

The Prophet’s ﷺ regular prayer before Asr

muslim:835a – Yaḥyā b. Ayyūb > Qutaybah > ʿAlī b. Ḥujr > Ismāʿīl b. Jaʿfar > Muḥammad b. Abī Ḥarmalah > Abū Salamah

He asked Aishah about the two prostrations that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray after Asr. She said: He used to pray them before Asr, then he was kept busy from them—or he forgot them—so he prayed them after Asr, then he made them established; and whenever he prayed a prayer, he would make it established.

Yahya b. Ayyub said: Ismail said: She means that he continued to observe it regularly.

bayhaqi:4396 – Bidhalik Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī b. Muḥammad al-Muqriʾ > Abū al-Ḥasan b. Muḥammad b. Isḥāq > Yūsuf b. Yaʿqūb al-Qāḍī > Abū al-Rabīʿ > Ismāʿīl b. Jaʿfar > Muḥammad b. Abū Ḥarmalah > Abū Salamah

He (the Holy Prophet) observed them before the 'Asr prayer, but then he was hindered to do so, or he forgot them and then he observed them after the 'Asr, and then he continued observing them. (It was his habit) that when he (the Holy Prophet) observed prayer, he then continued observing it. Isma'il said: It implies that he always did that. (Using translation from Muslim 835a)

البيهقي:٤٣٩٦ – أنبأ بِذَلِكَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُقْرِئُ أنبأ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا يُوسُفُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْقَاضِي ثنا أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَرْمَلَةَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ
