3. Book of Purification (3/12)
[Machine] A man was injured during the time of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and it caused him to have a state of impurity (janabah). He sought advice and was instructed to perform a ritual washing (ghusl), which he did. However, he died afterwards. When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was informed about this, he said, "They killed him, may Allah kill them. Wasn't the washing of the affected area sufficient for him?" Ata, a companion of the Prophet, reported that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was asked about this incident later on and he replied, "If he had washed his body and left the area affected by the injury, it would have been sufficient for him."
Two persons set out on a journey. Meanwhile the time of prayer came and they had no water. They performed tayammum with clean earth and prayed. Later on they found water within the time of the prayer. One of them repeated the prayer and ablution but the other did not repeat. Then they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and related the matter to him. Addressing himself to the one who did not repeat, he said: You followed the sunnah (model behavior of the Prophet) and your (first) prayer was enough for you. He said to the one who performed ablution and repeated: For you there is the double reward. Abu Dawud said: Besides Ibn Nafi' this is transmitted by al-Laith from 'Umairah b. Abi Najiyyah from Bakr b. Sawadah on the authority of 'Ata b. Yasar from the Prophet ﷺ. Abu Dawud said: The mention of (the name of the Companion) Abu Sa'id in this tradition is not guarded. This is a mural tradition (i.e. the Successor 'Ata b. Yasar directly narrates it from the Prophet, leaving the name of the Companion in the chain.) (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 338)
[Machine] About the Prophet ﷺ , and Allah knows best, according to their condition and Ibn Nafi', a reliable person who focused on his lineage.
[Machine] From the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, he said: "Tayammum consists of two strikes, one for the face and one for the hands up to the elbows." The two sheikhs (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) agreed on the hadith of Al-Hakam, on the authority of Tharr, on the authority of Sa'id ibn Abdur-Rahman ibn Abza, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Umar regarding Tayammum, and they did not mention it in this wording. And I do not know anyone who attributed it to Ubaidullah other than Ali ibn Zabyan, and he is truthful, and he was narrated by Yahya ibn Sa'id and Hisham ibn Basheer and others. And Malik ibn Anas attributed it to Nafi' in Al-Muwatta' in a different wording, except that my condition in the chain of narrators of the truthful hadith, when others narrate it, is different.
[Machine] "We performed Tayammum with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . We struck the ground with our hands on the clean surface, then we shook off our hands and wiped our faces with them. Then we struck the ground again with our hands on the clean surface, and then shook off our hands and wiped our hands from the elbow to the fingertips, over the strands of hair, both apparent and hidden."
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ , regarding Tayammum (dry ablution), it consists of two strikes: one strike on the face and another strike on the hands up to the elbows. Sulaiman ibn Abi Dawud did not mention this, but we mentioned it in Ash-Shawahid. We have also narrated the meaning of this hadith from Jabir ibn Abdullah, from the Prophet ﷺ , with a sound chain of narration.
[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "I have been affected by seminal discharge and I have rubbed myself with dust." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do this." And he struck the ground with his hands, then wiped his face with them, then he struck the ground again with his hands and wiped his arms with them up to the elbows.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Tayammum (dry ablution) consists of two strikes, one strike on the face and one strike on the hands up to the elbows."
[Machine] I saw the Prophet ﷺ performing dry ablution (tayammum) at a place called Mirbad al-Na'am while he was observing the houses of the city.
[Machine] Ibn Umar performed Tayammum on a mound or two mounds of sand near Al-Madinah, then he prayed Asr, and he arrived while the sun was still high, and he did not repeat the prayer.
[Machine] "To me, 'When did you put on your shoes?' I said, 'On Friday.' He said, 'Did you take them off?' I said, 'No.' He said, 'You have followed the Sunnah.'"
[Machine] "Aukbatu (a person's name) and Ali were wearing light sandals unlike those thick ones, so Umar asked me, 'When did you adopt their dress?' I said, 'I wore them on Friday and today is Friday.' He said to me, 'You have followed the Sunnah.' The narration from Ubaidullah ibn Umar from Nafi from Ibn Umar is authentic, that he did not set a specific time for wiping over the two khuffs (socks or sandals), and this hadith has also been narrated from Anas ibn Malik from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a valid chain of narrators except that it is an exception, just once."
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'When one of you performs ablution and puts on his socks, he should pray in them and wipe over them, and he should not take them off unless he is in a state of major ritual impurity.' This is a Sahih (authentic) narration according to the criteria of Muslim and Abdul-Ghaffar ibn Dawud is a trustworthy narrator, except he is not accepted by the people of Basrah due to Hammad's contradictory narration."
[Machine] "Why is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing since the revelation of the criterion has been sent to him?"
[Machine] It means: "The Prophet ﷺ entered while he was walking with a wound on his thigh."
"1 saw the Prophet rinse his mouth and sniff water in his nose using one hand, he did that thrice," (Using translation from Tirmidhī 28)
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "When you perform Wudu', do so properly, and wash in between the fingers (Al-Asabi')."[2] [1] Al-Asabi' is plural meaning fingers as well as toes, and the author mentioned only one narration on the topic whereas some of them clarify "of the hands and feet." So he mentioned the general wording amids chapters how to wash the feet. [2] Part of this narration preceded under No. 87. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 114)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you perform ablution, interlace your fingers and toes." "This narration is credited to Salih. I assume he is among the freed slaves of At-Taw'amah. If so, this is not a condition of this book, and I have only mentioned it as a supporting evidence."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to visit the houses of a certain group of the Ansar (Helpers), while ignoring others. This bothered them, so they said, "O Messenger of Allah, you visit the house of so-and-so but not our house." The Prophet ﷺ responded, "There is a dog in your house." They replied, "But there is a lamp in their house." The Prophet ﷺ then said, "The lamb has seven tails."
[Machine] We were with Salman al-Farsi on a journey, and he fulfilled his needs. So we said to him, "Perform ablution so that we may ask you about a verse from the Quran." He said, "Ask me, for I did not lose it." Then he recited to us what we desired, and there was no water between us and him.
[Machine] Regarding Salman, he mentioned him in a similar manner.
the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Most of the torment of the grave is because of ˹carelessness with˺ urine."
[Machine] Ibn Abbas reported that he raised it to the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "The majority of the punishment in the grave is due to urine."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If any of you makes a mistake in his prayer, let him rub his nose and then continue." This was followed by Umar ibn Ali al-Muqaddami and Muhammad ibn Bishr al-Abdi and others from Hisham ibn Uruwah, "And it is authentic according to their conditions, and they did not exclude it." According to their conditions.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "If anyone of you sneezes during prayer, he should cover his nose and leave the prayer to perform ablution." I heard Ali ibn Umar Ad-Dar Qutni Al-Hafiz saying, "I heard Abu Bakr Ash-Shafi'i As-Sairafi saying, 'Whoever issues a fatwa (religious ruling) from the Imams of the Muslims regarding matters of tricks and deception, he has taken it from this hadith.'"
[Machine] I and Amr ibn Al-Aas set off, then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to us holding a utensil or something similar to it in his hand, and he covered himself with it. He urinated while sitting. So I said to my companion, "Don't you see how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ urinates like a woman?" He came to us and said, "Do you not know what happened to the companion of the children of Israel? Whenever he was afflicted with something from urine, he would perform istinja' (cleaning the private parts with water after urination) with a clump of soil." He said, "So he was forbidden from doing that, and he was punished in his grave."
[Machine] "When the Prophet ﷺ needed to relieve himself while he was covered with a garment, they asked him, 'Do you urinate like women do?' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'Indeed, the Bani Israel (Children of Israel) used to suffer from urinary ailments, so they would cauterize themselves with metal objects. Allah forbade them from doing so, and as a punishment, they would be tormented in their graves.'"
[Machine] She said, "What is wrong with the Messenger of Allah standing firm upon receiving the criterion" according to their condition.
[Machine] I heard Aisha swear by Allah that no one has seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ urinating while standing since the revelation of the Quran.
"The Messenger of Allah saw me urinating while standing, and he said: 'O 'Umar, do not urinate standing up.' So I never urinated whilst standing after that." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 308)
"None of you should urinate in the place where he bathes, for most Waswas (devilish whispers) [1] come from that." [1] I.e., with regard to whether the urine has soiled his body or not. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 36)
[Machine] "To fulfill the condition of them being immersed in the bath."
The Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam ) as saying : Be on your guard against two things which provoke cursing. They (the hearers) said : Prophet of Allaah ( sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam), what are these things which provoke cursing: easing in the watering places and on the thoroughfares, and in the shade (of the tree)(where they take shelter and rest). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 25)
[Machine] "A man said to Abu Hurairah, 'You have given us fatwas regarding everything, to the point that you are about to give us a fatwa about excrement.' Abu Hurairah said, 'I have heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying, "Whoever releases his anger on a pathway frequented by the Muslims, upon him is the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people."' Muhammad ibn Amr al-Ansari is among those whose narrations are commonly accepted among the people of Basrah, and he is highly esteemed in his narrations."
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "No one of you should urinate in a hole." according to their condition.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "None of you should urinate in burrows." Qatadah also said, "Indeed, these are the dwellings of the jinn, and I do not deny the statement that they are the dwellings of the jinn because this is from the saying of Qatadah."
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, "Verily, these toilets are inhabited by jinns. So, when any one of you enters the toilet, let him say: 'I seek refuge with Allah from impure male and female jinns.'" A Muslim presented a narration by Qatadah from Anas bin Malik from Zaid bin Arqam, and Al-Bukhari presented a narration by 'Amr bin Marzuq. This hadith is disputed by Qatadah, Sa'id bin Abi 'Arubah, and Qasim bin 'Awf Al-Shaybani from Zaid bin Arqam. Both of these meaning this hadith are in accordance with the condition of being authentic.
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "Verily, these bushes are inhabited by deadly creatures. So, when any one of you enters it, let him say, 'I seek refuge in Allah from the filth and evil spirits.'"
Neither of these two chains of narration fulfill the condition of authenticity, and they did not exclude it from this wording. They only agreed upon the hadeeth of 'Abdul-Azeez ibn Suhayb from Anas, mentioning seeking refuge [with Allah] exclusively."
When the Prophet entered the toilet, he would take off his ring. (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 303)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to wear a ring with the inscription "Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah" and whenever he entered the bathroom, he would remove it.
[Machine] When this verse was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent a messenger to Uwaim bin Sa'ida and said, "What is this purification that Allah has praised you for?" They replied, "O Prophet of Allah, no man or woman among us goes to defecate except that they wash their backsides or, instead, they wash their sitting areas." So the Prophet ﷺ said, "This (cleanliness) applies to this (situation)."
[Machine] They said, "O Messenger of Allah, who are these people [in whom there are men who love to purify themselves and Allah loves those who purify themselves]?" He said, "They are the ones who perform istinja' (cleansing after using the bathroom) with water and they do not sleep throughout the night." This is the last information that reached us from the Book of Purification according to the conditions of the two sheikhs, unless they have omitted it.
