3. Book of Purification
[Machine] I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "Which action is the best?" He said, "Praying at the beginning of its prescribed time." I asked, "Then which action?" He said, "Jihad in the cause of Allah." I asked, "Then which action?" He said, "Being dutiful to one's parents."
[Machine] I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ which action is best? He said, "Prayer at its proper time." This statement has been confirmed by trustworthy narrators Bundar ibn Bashar and Al-Hasan ibn Mukram, who reported it from Uthman ibn Umar. It is considered authentic according to the conditions of the two esteemed scholars, and they did not exclude it. There are also supporting evidences regarding this matter.
[Machine] I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , "Which actions are the best?" He said, "Praying in its earliest time." I asked, "Then what?" He said, "Striving in the cause of Allah." I asked, "Then what?" He said, "Showing kindness and obedience to parents, even if they are unjust towards me." "This hadith has been narrated by a group from Shu'bah, but this wording is not mentioned except by Hujaj bin Al-Sha'ir from Ali bin Hafs and Hujaj is a trustworthy preserver. Muslim relied on Ali bin Hafs Al-Madaini in his argument."
[Machine] From a man of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Which action is best?" He replied, "Offering prayers at its appointed time." The man was Abdullah ibn Mas'ud according to the consensus of the narrators on the authority of Abu Amr Ash-Shaybani.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best of deeds is praying in its appointed time." "Yaqoob ibn al-Walid is an elder from the people of Madinah who resides in Baghdad and is not a condition of this book, except that he is a witness for Ubaidullah." Yaqoob is a liar, meaning Yaqoob ibn al-Walid.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, "Which action is the best?" He replied, "Offering the prayer at its earliest time."
[Machine] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , I heard Abu Al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub saying: I heard Al-Abbas ibn Muhammad Ad-Duri saying, I heard Yahya ibn Ma'in saying: Abdullah ibn Umar narrated from Al-Qasim ibn Ghannam but his brother Ubaidullah ibn Umar did not narrate from him.
"Messenger of Allah did not pray any Salat at the end of its time two times, until Allah took him." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 174)
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not pray the prayer at its final time twice until Allah took him. And he has another witness from the Hadith of Al-Waqidi, and it is not a condition of this book."
[Machine] "I have never seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ delay a prayer until its last time, until Allah took him (in death)."
[Machine] "People think that you have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ doing such things. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "My Ummah will always be on the right path as long as they do not delay Maghrib prayer until the stars start to appear.""
[Machine] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "The matter of my Ummah will remain upon the Fitrah (natural disposition) as long as they do not delay the Maghrib prayer until the stars appear."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are two transformations of dawn: a dawn in which food is forbidden and prayer becomes permissible, and a dawn in which prayer is forbidden and food becomes permissible."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: There are two types of dawn. As for the dawn that appears like the tail of a wolf, prayer is not permissible at that time but eating is permissible. However, as for the dawn that spreads horizontally in the sky, prayer is permissible and eating is not permissible.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Shall I not guide you to what Allah wipes away sins with and increases in good deeds?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Performing ablution more than is required, even in disliked situations, and staying in place after prayer until the next prayer. None among you leaves his house to perform prayer with the Imam and then sits waiting for the next prayer, except that the angels say, 'O Allah, forgive him, O Allah, have mercy on him.'"
[Machine] We were sitting with Ali in the Great Mosque, and it was a special occasion in Al-Kufa that day. The Muadhin came to him and said, "O Amir al-Mu'minin, it is time for Asr prayer." Ali replied, "Sit down." So he sat down, then the Muadhin came again and said the same thing. Ali said, "This dog teaches us about the Sunnah." So Ali stood up and led us in performing the Asr prayer. After we finished, we returned to the place where we were sitting, and we prostrated on our knees, observing the setting sun until we could no longer see it.
[Machine] "We used to pray Asr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , then we would slaughter the animals, divide them into ten portions, cook them, and eat the cooked meat before the sun sets." Both Bukhari and Muslim agreed upon narrating the hadith of Al-Awza'i from Abu Al-Najashi from Rafi' ibn Khadeej, who said, "We used to pray Maghrib with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , then we would leave, and one of us would mark the places of his arrows, and he had two valid witnesses regarding expediting the prayer, but they did not testify." The first witness among them is
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, that he used to pray Asr when the sun is high and bright, then the man walks until he moves away from it towards Dhul-Hulayfah, which is six miles before the sunset. They both agreed upon the narration of Bashir ibn Abu Mas'ud in the last narration of Az-Zuhri from Urwah, with a different wording. As for the second witness...
[Machine] "Or did the prophet Gabriel ﷺ come to the Prophet ﷺ twice at the house, so he prayed the noon prayer when the sun had declined and it was the length of a sandal strap, then he prayed the afternoon prayer when the shadow of everything was in proportion to it, then he prayed the sunset prayer when the fasting person broke their fast, then he prayed the night prayer when the twilight disappeared, then he prayed the dawn prayer when eating and drinking became prohibited for the one fasting, then he prayed the noon prayer the next day when the shadow of everything was in proportion to it, like the time of the afternoon prayer the previous day, then he prayed the afternoon prayer when the shadow of everything was equal to it, then he prayed the sunset prayer when the fasting person broke their fast, then he prayed the night prayer for one-third of the first part of the night, then he prayed the dawn prayer when it became light, then he said, 'O Muhammad, this is the time of the prophets before you, and the time between these two times.' As for the statement of Abdul Aziz ibn Muhammad..."
The above mentioned tradition has also been transmitted in a similar manner by Ibn 'Abbas from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1491)
[Machine] The Prophet peace be upon him was asked about the timing of prayers, so he advanced and postponed and said, "There is a time between them."
[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told them that Jibril came to him and prayed with him in two timings, except Maghrib. He said, 'He came to me and prayed with me when the sun had set, then he came to me the next day and prayed with me when the sun had set, he did not change it.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is Jibril (Gabriel), teaching you your religion." Then he mentioned the times of prayer, and he mentioned that he prayed Maghrib when the sun set. Then, when it came to him on the next day, he prayed Maghrib when the sun set at the same time, as a condition for Muslims.
[Machine] "I know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform the last evening prayer when the moon sets by three moments. Raqaba bin Masqala narrated from Abu Bishr, and Raqaba and Hushaym agreed on narrating this hadith from Abu Bishr through Habib bin Salim, and their chain of narration is authentic. However, Shu'ba and Abu Awanah disagreed with them and said that it was narrated from Abu Bishr through Bishr bin Thabit and then through Habib bin Salim, and this chain of narration is also authentic."
