Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The poor person is not the one who goes round the people and ask them for a mouthful or two (of meals) or a date or two but the poor is that who has not enough (money) to satisfy his needs and whose condition is not known to others, that others may give him something in charity, and who does not beg of people."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ الَّذِي يَطُوفُ عَلَى النَّاسِ تَرُدُّهُ اللُّقْمَةُ وَاللُّقْمَتَانِ وَالتَّمْرَةُ وَالتَّمْرَتَانِ وَلَكِنِ الْمِسْكِينُ الَّذِي لاَ يَجِدُ غِنًى يُغْنِيهِ وَلاَ يُفْطَنُ بِهِ فَيُتَصَدَّقُ عَلَيْهِ وَلاَ يَقُومُ فَيَسْأَلُ النَّاسَ
The Prophet ﷺ said, "The poor person is not the one for whom a date or two or a morsel or two (of food is sufficient but the poor person is he who does not (beg or) ask the people (for something) or show his poverty at all. Recite if you wish, (Allah's Statement): "They do not beg of people at all." (2.273)

He said: He who does not get enough to satisfy him, and he is not considered so (as to elicit the attention of the benevolent people), so that charity way be given to him. and he does not beg anything from people.

[AI] From the Prophet ﷺ , he said: "The poor person is not the one who is handed a morsel or two, or a small piece of food, or two small pieces of food, or a date, or two dates. Rather, the poor person is the one who does not have sufficient means to make him independent and feels ashamed to ask people for help, or refrains from asking people for help."

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The poor person is not the one who goes around begging people for a date or two, or a morsel of food. Rather, the true poor person is the one who is self-restrained, who does not ask people for anything, and whose poverty is not noticed by others so that they may give charity to him."

[AI] I heard Abu Qasim ﷺ say, "The truly needy person is not the one who is given a few dates, or two dates, or a mouthful of food, or two mouthfuls. Rather, the truly needy person is the one who cannot find enough to sustain themselves and does not ask people insistently."

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'z-Zinad from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The very poor are not the people who constantly walk from person to person and are given one or two morsels, and one or two dates." They said, "Who are the very poor, Messenger of Allah?" He said, "People who do not find enough for themselves and other people are not aware of them to give sadaqa to them, and they do not start begging from other people."

[AI] From the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said: "The true needy person is not the one who is satisfied with a single meal, two meals, a morsel, two morsels, a date, or two dates. Rather, the truly needy person is the one who cannot find sufficiency, yet they are given sufficiency. They do not ask people insistently for help, and they feel ashamed to ask people insistently for help."

[AI] The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "The true poor person is not the one who is given a date or two dates, or a meal or two meals, but rather the true poor person is the one who does not have enough to meet his needs and his need is not known, so he is given charity. This is the one who is deprived."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ الَّذِي تَرُدُّهُ التَّمْرَةُ وَالتَّمْرَتَانِ وَاللُّقْمَةُ وَاللُّقْمَتَانِ إِنَّ الْمِسْكِينَ الْمُتَعَفِّفُ اقْرَءُوا إِنْ شِئْتُمْ {لَا يَسْأَلُونَ النَّاسَ إِلْحَافًا} [البقرة 273]
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The poor person is not the one who goes round the people and ask them for a mouthful or two (of meals) or a date or two but the poor is that who has not enough (money) to satisfy his needs and whose condition is not known to others, that others may give him something in charity, and who does not beg of people." قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ هَذَا الطَّوَّافُ الَّذِي يَطُوفُ عَلَى النَّاسِ تَرُدُّهُ اللُّقْمَةُ وَاللُّقْمَتَانِ وَالتَّمْرَةُ وَالتَّمْرَتَانِ لَكِنَّ الْمِسْكِينَ الَّذِي لَا يَجِدُ غِنًى يُغْنِيهِ وَيَسْتَحِي أَنْ يَسْأَلَ النَّاسَ وَلَا يُفْطَنُ لَهُ فَيُتَصَدَّقُ عَلَيْهِ
[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The destitute is not the one who receives dates or two dates or a mouthful or two mouthfuls of food. Rather, the destitute is the one who refrains from begging. Read if you wish: "They do not ask people persistently". [Al-Baqarah 2:273]
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ الَّذِي تَرُدُّهُ التَّمْرَةُ وَالتَّمْرَتَانِ وَاللُّقْمَةُ وَاللُّقْمَتَانِ إِنَّمَا الْمِسْكِينُ الَّذِي يَتَعَفَّفُ اقْرَءُوا إِنْ شِئْتُمْ {لَا يَسْأَلُونَ النَّاسَ إِلْحَافًا } [البقرة 273]
"لَيسَ الْمِسْكينُ الَّذي تَرُده الأُكْلَةُ والأُكْلَتَانِ، ولَكِن الْمِسْكينُ الَّذِي لَيسَ لَهُ غِنَى وَيَسْتَحيى ولا يَسْأَلُ النَّاسَ إِلْحَافًا".
"لَيسَ الْمسكينُ الَّذِي يَطُوفُ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَتَرُدّهُ اللُقْمَةُ واللُّقْمَتَانِ، والتَّمْرَةُ والتَّمْرَتَان، ولَكِن المِسْكِينَ الَّذِي لَا يَجِدُ غِنًى يُغْنِيه، ولا يُفْطنُ لَهُ فَيُتَصَدَّقُ عَلَيه، ولا يَقُومُ فَيَسْأَلُ النَّاسَ".
"لَيسَ المسكين بِالطَّوَّافِ، ولا بِالَّذِى تَرُدّهُ التمْرةُ ولا التَّمْرَتَانِ وَلَا اللُّقْمَةُ ولا اللُّقْمَتَانِ، ولَكِن الْمِسْكينَ المتَعَفِفُ الَّذِي لَا يَسْأَلُ النَّاسَ شَيئًا، ولا يُفْطَنُ لَه فَيُتصَدَّقَ عليه".
"لَيسَ الْمِسكِينُ الَّذِي تَرُدُّه التَّمْرَةُ والتَّمْرَتَانِ، وَالأُكلَةُ والأُكْلَتَانِ، ولَكِنَّ الْمِسْكينَ الَّذِي لَيسَ لَهُ مَا يَسْتَغْنِي بِه ولا يُعْلَمُ بِحَاجَتِه فَيُتَصَدَّقَ عَلَيهِ، فَذَلِكَ الْمَحْرُومُ".
