that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The most merciful of my nation to my nation is Abu Bakr, and the most severe of them concerning the order of Allah is 'Umar, and the most truly modest of them is 'Uthman bin 'Affan. The most knowledgeable of them concerning the lawful and unlawful is Mu'adh Bin Jabal, the most knowledgeable of them concerning (the laws of) inheritance is Zaid bin Thabit, the best reciter (of the Qur'an) among them is Ubayy bin Ka'b, and every nation has a trustworthy one, and the trustworthy one of this nation is Abu 'Ubaidah Bin Al-Jarrah."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرْحَمُ أُمَّتِي بِأُمَّتِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَشَدُّهُمْ فِي أَمْرِ اللَّهِ عُمَرُ وَأَصْدَقُهُمْ حَيَاءً عُثْمَانُ وَأَعْلَمُهُمْ بِالْحَلاَلِ وَالْحَرَامِ مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ وَأَفْرَضُهُمْ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ وَأَقْرَؤُهُمْ أُبَىُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَمِينٌ وَأَمِينُ هَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ لاَ نَعْرِفُهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ قَتَادَةَ إِلاَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ أَبُو قِلاَبَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَحْوَهُ وَالْمَشْهُورُ حَدِيثُ أَبِي قِلاَبَةَ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The most merciful of my nation to my nation is Abu Bakr, and the most severe of them concerning the order of Allah is 'Umar, and the most truly modest of them is 'Uthman bin 'Affan. عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ أَرْحَمُ أُمَّتِي بِأُمَّتِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَشَدُّهُمْ فِي دِينِ اللهِ عُمَرُ وَقَالَ عَفَّانُ مَرَّةً فِي أَمْرِ اللهِ عُمَرُ وَأَصْدَقُهُمْ حَيَاءً عُثْمَانُ وَأَفْرَضُهُمْ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ وَأَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللهِ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ وَأَعْلَمُهُمْ بِالْحَلَالِ وَالْحَرَامِ مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ أَلَا وَإِنَّ لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَمِينًا وَإِنَّ أَمِينَ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The most merciful among my Ummah (nation) towards my Ummah is Abu Bakr, and the strongest of them in the matter of Allah is Umar, and the most modest among them is Uthman, and the most knowledgeable about the Book of Allah is Ubayy bin Ka'b, and the most qualified to distinguish between lawful and unlawful matters is Mu'adh, except that every Ummah has a trustworthy person, and the trustworthy person of this Ummah is Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah." This is an authentic chain, according to the conditions of the two Sheikhs (Al-Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not exclude it using this version. They only agreed on mentioning Abu Ubaidah in the chain, and I have mentioned its reason in the book of Al-Talkhis according to the conditions of Al-Bukhari and Muslim.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أرْحَمُ أُمَّتِي بِأُمَّتِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَشَدُّهُمْ فِي أَمْرِ اللَّهِ عُمَرُ وَأَصْدَقُهُمْ حَيَاءً عُثْمَانُ وَأَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ وَأَفْرَضُهُمْ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ وَأَعْلَمُهُمْ بِالْحَلَالِ وَالْحَرَامِ مُعَاذٌ إِلَّا أَنَّ لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَمِينًا وَإِنَّ أَمِينَ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ أَبُوعُبَيْدَةَ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ» هَذَا إِسْنَادٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ بِهَذِهِ السِّيَاقَةِ وَإِنَّمَا اتَّفَقَا بِإِسْنَادِهِ هَذَا عَلَى ذِكْرِ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ فَقَطْ وَقَدْ ذَكَرْتُ عِلَّتَهُ فِي كِتَابِ التَّلْخِيصِ على شرط البخاري ومسلم

أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَأَشَدُّهُمْ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ عُمَر وَأَصْدَقُهُمْ حَيَاءً عُثمَان وَأَعْلَمُهُمْ بِالْحَلالِ وَالْحَرَامِ مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَمِينٌ وَأَمِينُ هَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بن الْجَرَّاحِوَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ قَدْ رَواه غَيرُ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الحَذَّاء عَن أَبِي قِلاَبَةَ عَن النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم أَنَّه قَالَ أَرْحَمُ أُمَّتِي وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ حَتَّى صَارَ وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَمِينٌ فَذَكَرَ هَذَا الْمَوْضِعَ عَن أَنَس عَن النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم وَسَائِرَ الْكَلامِ عَن أَبِي قِلاَبَةَ مُرْسَلا وَجَعَلَ عَبد الوَهَّاب جَمِيعَ الْكَلامِ عَن أَنَس كُلَّهُ وَقَدْ تَابَعَ عَبد الوَهَّاب الثَّوْرِيّ عَلَى هَذِهِ الرِّوَايَةِ فَرَوَاهُ قَبِيصَةُ عَنِ الثَّورِيّ عَن خَالِدٍ وعَاصِم

"أرحم أُمتى بأُمَّتِى أبو بكرٍ، وأشدهم في أمرِ اللهِ عمرُ، وأصدقُهم حياءً عثمانُ، وأعلمُهم بالحلالِ والحرام معاد بن جبلٍ، وأفرضُهم زيدُ بن ثابتِ، وأقْرَؤُهم لكتابِ اللهِ أبي بن كعبٍ، ولكلِ أمةٍ أمين، وأمين هذه الأمةِ أبو عبيدةَ بن الجراحِ ".

"أرحمُ هذه الأمةِ بها: أبو بكرٍ، وأقْواهُم في دينِ اللهِ عُمَر، وأفْرضُهُم زيدُ بن ثابت، وأقضاهُم عليُّ بن أبي طالبِ، وأصدقهم حياءِ عثمانُ بن عفانَ، وأمينُ هذه الأمة أبو عُبيدةَ الجراح، وأقرؤهم لكتابِ اللهِ أبيُ بنْ كعبٍ وأبو هريرة وعاءُ (من) العلم، وسَلمانُ عالمُ لا يُدرَكُ، ومعاذُ بن جبل أعلَمُ النَّاسِ بحلالِ الله وحرامه، وما أظلَّت الخضراءُ، ولا أقلَّت الغبْراءُ منْ ذِي لهْجةٍ أصدقَ مِنْ أبي ذرٍ".
