Aisha wanted to buy Barirah and he (the Prophet) went out for the prayer. When he returned, she told him that they (her masters) refused to sell her except on the condition that her Wala' would go to them. The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'The Wala' would go to him who manumits.' " Hammam asked Nafiʿ whether her (Barirah's) husband was a free man or a slave. He replied that he did not know.

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ ؓ سَاوَمَتْ بَرِيرَةَ فَخَرَجَ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ فَلَمَّا جَاءَ قَالَتْ إِنَّهُمْ أَبَوْا أَنْ يَبِيعُوهَا إِلاَّ أَنْ يَشْتَرِطُوا الْوَلاَءَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّمَا الْوَلاَءُ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ قُلْتُ لِنَافِعٍ حُرًّا كَانَ زَوْجُهَا أَوْ عَبْدًا فَقَالَ مَا يُدْرِينِي

When Aisha intended to buy Barira, she said to the Prophet, "Barira's masters stipulated that they will have the Wala." The Prophet ﷺ said (to Aisha), "Buy her, as the Wala is for the one who manumits."

لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِنَّهُمْ يَشْتَرِطُونَ الْوَلاَءَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ اشْتَرِيهَا فَإِنَّمَا الْوَلاَءُ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ

[AI] "To have ownership of her, Aisha mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Buy her and set her free, for loyalty belongs to those who pay the price.'"

أَنْ يَكُونَ لَهُمْ وَلَاؤُهَا فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ عَائِشَةُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اشْتَرِيهَا فَأَعْتِقِيهَا فَإِنَّمَا الْوَلَاءُ لِمَنْ أَعْطَى الثَّمَنَ

[AI] Aisha negotiated with Birra and when the Prophet ﷺ went out for prayer and returned, she said, "They refused to sell me unless they impose a condition of loyalty." The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Loyalty is only for the emancipated slaves."

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ سَاوَمَتْ بِبَرِيرَةَ فَخَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ قَالَتْ إِنَّهُمْ أَبَوْا أَنْ يَبِيعُونِي إِلَّا أَنْ يَشْتَرِطُوا الْوَلَاءَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِنَّمَا الْوَلَاءُ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ

[AI] Aisha sold Bureira, then the Prophet ﷺ returned from prayer and she said, "They should not sell her unless they stipulate freedom." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Freedom is for the one who sets free."

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ سَاوَمَتْ بَرِيرَةَ فَرَجَعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَتْ أَبَوْا أَنْ يَبِيعُوهَا إِلَّا أَنْ يَشْتَرِطُوا الْوَلَاءَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْوَلَاءُ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ

[AI] "They stipulated her loyalty, so she mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he said, 'Buy her and set her free, for loyalty belongs to the one who emancipates.'"

أَنْ يَشْتَرِطُوا وَلَاءَهَا فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «اشْتَرِيهَا فَأَعْتِقِيهَا فَإِنَّمَا الْوَلَاءُ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ»

[AI] To buy a female slave for the purpose of setting her free, and they stipulated her loyalty. So she mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Buy her and set her free, for loyalty belongs to the one who sets free."

أَنْ تَشْتَرِيَ بَرِيرَةَ لِلْعِتْقِ وَأَنَّهُمُ اشْتَرَطُوا وَلَاءَهَا فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اشْتَرِيهَا فَأَعْتِقِيهَا فَإِنَّ الْوَلَاءَ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ»
