"I came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'My mother left a will saying that a slave should be freed on her behalf. I have a Nubian slave girl; will it suffice if I free her on her behalf?' He said: 'Bring her here.' The Prophet said to her: 'Who is your Lord?' She said: 'Allah.' He said: 'Who am I?' She said: 'The Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Set her free , for she is a believer.'"  

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ أُمِّي أَوْصَتْ أَنْ تُعْتَقَ عَنْهَا رَقَبَةٌ وَإِنَّ عِنْدِي جَارِيَةً نُوبِيَّةً أَفَيُجْزِئُ عَنِّي أَنْ أَعْتِقَهَا عَنْهَا قَالَ ائْتِنِي بِهَا فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَنْ رَبُّكِ قَالَتِ اللَّهُ قَالَ مَنْ أَنَا قَالَتْ أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَأَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ  

[Machine] A believer woman approached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, asking him about it. He responded, "I have a servant girl who is black or from Nubia, should I free her?" He said, "Bring her to me." So, I called her and she came. He asked her, "Who is your lord?" She replied, "Allah." He asked her, "Who am I?" She said, "You are the Messenger of Allah." He then said, "Free her, for she is a believer."  

عَنْهَا رَقَبَةً مُؤْمِنَةً فَسَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ عِنْدِي جَارِيَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ أَوْ نُوبِيَّةٌ فَأَعْتِقُهَا؟ فَقَالَ ائْتِ بِهَا فَدَعَوْتُهَا فَجَاءَتْ فَقَالَ لَهَا مَنْ رَبُّكِ؟ قَالَتْ اللهُ قَالَ مَنْ أَنَا؟ فَقَالَتْ أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ  

[Machine] He saw a believing slave woman and asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about her. He said, "I have a black Nubian slave girl, should I free her for her sake?" He said, "Bring her to me." So he called her and she came. He said to her, "Who is your Lord?" She said, "Allah." He said, "Who am I?" She said, "The Messenger of Allah." He said, "Set her free, for she is a believer."  

عَنْهَا رَقَبَةً مُؤْمِنَةً فَسَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ عِنْدِي جَارِيَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ نُوبِيَّةٌ فَأُعْتِقُهَا عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ ائْتِ بِهَا فَدَعَوْتُهَا فَجَاءَتْ فَقَالَ لَهَا مَنْ رَبُّكِ؟ قَالَتْ اللهُ قَالَ مَنْ أَنَا؟ قَالَتْ رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ  

"I came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'My mother left a will saying that a slave should be freed on her behalf. I have a Nubian slave girl; will it suffice if I free her on her behalf?' يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي أَوْصَتْ أَنْ يُعْتَقَ عَنْهَا رَقَبَةٌ مُؤْمِنَةٌ وَعِنْدِي جَارِيَةٌ نُوبِيَّةٌ سَوْدَاءُ فَقَالَ ادْعُ بِهَا فَجَاءَ بِهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مَنْ رَبُّكِ؟ قَالَتْ اللهُ قَالَ مَنْ أَنَا؟ قَالَتْ أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ  

[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Indeed, my mother has a slave girl, and I have an Abyssinian slave girl. Should I set her free?" He said, "Bring her to me." Then he asked, "Do you bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah?" She replied, "Yes." He said, "Set her free, for she is a believer."  

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ عَلَى أُمِّي رَقَبَةً وَإِنَّ عِنْدِي جَارِيَةً سَوْدَاءَ نُوبِيَّةً أَفَتُجْزِئُ عَنْهَا قَالَ «ادْعُ بِهَا» فَقَالَ أَتَشْهَدِينَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ قَالَ «أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ»  

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, my mother left a will that we should free a slave on her behalf, and I have a black slave girl." He said, "Bring her to me." So, she came and he asked her, "Who is your Lord?" She replied, "Allah." He asked, "Who am I?" She replied, "The Messenger of Allah." He said, "Free her, for she is a believer."  

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أُمِّي أَوْصَتْ أَنْ نُعْتِقُ عَنْهَا رَقَبَةً وَعِنْدِي جَارِيَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ قَالَ «ادْعُ بِهَا» فَجَاءَتْ فَقَالَ «مَنْ رَبُّكِ؟ » قَالَتِ اللَّهُ قَالَ «مَنْ أَنَا؟ » قَالَتْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ قَالَ «أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ»  

[Machine] I said, "O Messenger of Allah, verily, my mother left a will that a slave be freed on her behalf, and I have a black slave girl." He said, "Summon her." So she came and he asked, "Who is your Lord?" She replied, "Allah." He asked, "Who am I?" She said, "The Messenger of Allah." He said, "Free her, for indeed she is a believer."  

قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أُمِّيَ أَوْصَتْ أَنْ تُعْتَقَ عَنْهَا رَقَبَةٌ وَعِنْدِي خَادِمٌ سَوْدَاءُ فَقَالَ «ادْعُ بِهَا» فَجَاءَ فَقَالَ «مَنْ رَبُّكِ؟» قَالَتِ اللهُ قَالَ «مَنْ أَنَا؟» قَالَتْ رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ «فَأَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ»  

"I came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'My mother left a will saying that a slave should be freed on her behalf. I have a Nubian slave girl; will it suffice if I free her on her behalf?' أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ أُمِّي أَوْصَتْ أَنْ تَعْتِقَ عَنْهَا رَقَبَةً وَإِنَّ عِنْدِي جَارِيَةً نُوبِيَّةً أَفَيُجْزِئُ عَنِّي أَنْ أَعْتِقَهَا عَنْهَا؟ قَالَ «ائْتِنِي بِهَا» فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «مَنْ رَبُّكِ؟» قَالَتِ اللهُ قَالَ «مَنْ أَنَا؟» قَالَتْ أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ «أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ»  

A man brought the Prophet ﷺ a black slave girl. He said: Messenger of Allah, emancipation of believing slave is due to me. He asked her: Where is Allah ? She pointed to the heaven with her finger. He then asked her: Who am I ? She pointed to the Prophet ﷺ and to the heaven, that is to say: You are the Messenger of Allah. He then said: Set her free, she is a believer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3284)   

أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ بِجَارِيَةٍ سَوْدَاءَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ عَلَيَّ عِتْقَ رَقَبَةٍ مُؤْمِنَةٍ فَقَالَ لَهَا أَيْنَ اللهُ؟ فَأَشَارَتْ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ بِإِصْبَعِهَا فَقَالَ لَهَا فَمَنْ أَنَا؟ فَأَشَارَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَإِلَى السَّمَاءِ تَعْنِي أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ  

[Machine] A woman came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a black slave woman and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have a believing slave woman. Should I free her?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked her, "Who is your Lord?" She replied, "Allah is my Lord." He asked her, "What is your religion?" She said, "Islam." He asked her, "Who am I?" She replied, "You are the Messenger of Allah." Then he said to her, "So pray the five daily prayers and believe in what I have brought from Allah." She said, "Yes." Then he slapped her on the back and said, "Free her."  

جَاءَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ بِأَمَةٍ سَوْدَاءَ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ عَلَيَّ رَقَبَةً مُؤْمِنَةً أَفَتُجْزِئُ عَنِّي هَذِهِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ رَبُّكِ؟ قَالَتْ اللهُ رَبِّي قَالَ فَمَا دِينُكِ؟ قَالَتْ الْإِسْلَامُ قَالَ فَمَنْ أَنَا؟ قَالَتْ أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللهِ قَالَ فَتُصَلِّينَ الْخَمْسَ وَتُقِرِّينَ بِمَا جِئْتُ بِهِ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللهِ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ فَضَرَبَ ﷺ عَلَى ظَهْرِهَا وقَالَ أَعْتِقِيهَا  

"عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ: أَتَى النَّبِىَّ ﷺ رَجُلٌ بِجَارِيَة سَوْدَاءَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ الله إِنَّ أُمِّى مَاتَتْ وَعَلَيْهَا رَقَبَةٌ مُؤْمنَةٌ فَهَلْ تَجْزِى هَذِه عَنْهَا؟ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : أيْنَ الله؟ فَأوْمَأتْ بِرَأسِهَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ، فَقَالَ: مَنْ أنَا؟ قَالَتْ: رَسُولُ الله ﷺ قَالَ: أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ".  

"عَنْ عَمْرو بن أَوْس، عَنْ رَجُلٍ من الأَنْصَارِ: أَنَّ امْرَأَةً هَلكَت وَأَمَرتْهُ أَنْ يَعْتق عَنَها رَقَبَة مُؤْمِنَة، فَجَاءَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ وَقَالَ: لَا أمْلِكُ إِلَّا جَارِيةً سَوْدَاءَ أَعْجَمِّية لَا تَدْرِي مَا الصَّلاة؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إئْتِنِي بِهَا، فَجَاءَ بِهَا فَقَالَ: أَيْنَ الله؟ قَالَتْ: فِي السَّمَاءِ، قَالَ: فَمنْ أَنَا؟ قَالَتْ: رَسُول اللهِ، قَالَ: أَعْتِقَها".
