Whenever the Prophet ﷺ intended to sleep while he was Junub, he used to wash his private parts and perform ablution like that for the prayer.

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهْوَ جُنُبٌ غَسَلَ فَرْجَهُ وَتَوَضَّأَ لِلصَّلاَةِ

Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to sleep after having sexual intercourse, he performed ablution as for the prayer before going to sleep.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ

Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had sexual intercourse and intended to eat or sleep, he performed the ablution of prayer.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا كَانَ جُنُبًا فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَنَامَ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ

when the prophet ﷺ intended to sleep while he was sexually defiled, he would perform ablution as he did for prayer.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ

When the Prophet (May peace be upon him) wanted to eat or sleep, he would perform ablution. She meant that (the prophet did so) when he was sexually defiled.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَنَامَ تَوَضَّأَ تَعْنِي وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ

"The Prophet permitted the Junub when he wanted to eat, drink, or sleep, to perform Wudu like the Wudu for Salat."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ رَخَّصَ لِلْجُنُبِ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَشْرَبَ أَوْ يَنَامَ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ

"If the Prophet ﷺ" - (one of the narrators) 'Amr said: "If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ" - "wanted to eat or sleep while he was Junub, he would perform Wudu'." In his narration, 'Amr (one of the narrators) added: "Wudu' was for prayer."

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَقَالَ عَمْرٌو كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ زَادَ عَمْرٌو فِي حَدِيثِهِ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ

It was narrated from 'Aishah that if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to sleep while he was Junub, he would perform Wudu', and if he wanted to eat he would wash his hands.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ

"If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to sleep while he was Junub, he would perform Wudu', and if he wanted to eat or drink," she said: "he would wash his hands and then eat or drink."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَشْرَبَ قَالَتْ غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ يَأْكُلُ أَوْ يَشْرَبُ

"If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to sleep while he was Junub, he would perform Wudu' as for prayer before sleeping."

إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ

"O Messenger of Allah! May any one of us sleep while he is Junub?" He said: "When he performs Wudu'."

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَيَنَامُ أَحَدُنَا وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ قَالَ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ

"When the Messenger of Allah wanted to sleep and he was sexually impure, he would perform ablution as for prayer."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ

'Umar bin Khattab said to the Messenger of Allah: "can anyone of us sleep if he is sexually impure?" He said: "Yes, if he performs ablution."

لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَيَرْقُدُ أَحَدُنَا وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ

"If the Messenger of Allah wanted to eat when he was sexually impure, he would perform ablution."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ

"The Prophet was asked about whether a person who is sexually impure can sleep, or eat, or drink. He said: 'yes, if he does ablution as for the prayer.'"

سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَنِ الْجُنُبِ هَلْ يَنَامُ أَوْ يَأْكُلُ أَوْ يَشْرَبُ قَالَ نَعَمْ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاَةِ

If the Prophet wanted to eat when he was sexually impure, he would wash his hands.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ

[AI] I asked Aisha, "How did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ act when he wanted to sleep while in a state of sexual impurity?" She said, "He would perform ablution as he does for prayer, then he would sleep."

سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَصْنَعُ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟ فَقَالَتْ كَانَ «يَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ يَنَامُ»

"If the Messenger of Allah wanted to eat when he was sexually impure, he would perform ablution." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 591)

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَجْنَبَ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَنَامَ تَوَضَّأَ»

I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ what one of us should do if he becomes junub then wants to sleep before doing ghusl. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Let him do wudoo' as for prayer, then he may go to sleep.ʿ

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ أَحَدُنَا إِذَا هُوَ أَجْنَبَ ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِيَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاةِ ثُمَّ لِيَنَمْ

Can one of us sleep when he is junub? He said: “He may do wudoo’ and sleep if he wishes.” On one occasion Sufyan said: ʿLet him do wudoo’ and sleep.ʿ

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَيَنَامُ أَحَدُنَا وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟ قَالَ يَتَوَضَّأُ وَيَنَامُ إِنْ شَاءَ وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً لِيَتَوَضَّأْ وَلْيَنَمْ

Can one of us sleep if he is junub? He said: ʿYes, if he does wudoo’ as for prayer.ʿ It was narrated from Ibn ʿUmar that ʿUmar asked the Prophet ﷺ... a similar hadeeth.

عُمَرَأَنَّ عُمَرَ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أيَنَامُ أَحَدُنَا وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْوَيَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاةِ

I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ : O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, if one of us wants to sleep before doing ghusl when he is junub, what should he do? He said: ʿLet him do wudoo’ as for prayer, then sleep.”

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَحَدُنَا إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ؟ قَالَ يَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلاةِ ثُمَّ يَنَامُ

'Umar bin Khattab said to the Messenger of Allah: "can anyone of us sleep if he is sexually impure?" He said: "Yes, if he performs ablution." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 585)

أَنَّ عُمَرَ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَيَنَامُ أَحَدُنَا وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ إِذَا تَوَضَّأَ

[AI] Umar ibn Al-Khattab asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Can one of us sleep while in a state of impurity (janabah)?" He replied, "Yes, but he should perform ablution (wudu)."

أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَيَنَامُ أَحَدُنَا وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ

[AI] Narrated by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: "If any of you has intercourse with his wife and then wants to return, he should perform ablution, as his ablution is for prayer."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا غَشِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَهْلَهُ ثُمَّ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَعُودَ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ

when the prophet ﷺ intended to sleep while he was sexually defiled, he would perform ablution as he did for prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 222)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would perform ablution, then he would kiss, pray, and not perform ablution again.

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَتَوَضَّأُ ثُمَّ يُقَبِّلُ وَيُصَلِّي وَلَا يَتَوَضَّأُ

"When the Messenger of Allah wanted to sleep and he was sexually impure, he would perform ablution as for prayer." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 584)

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution for prayer before going to sleep if he was in a state of janabah (ritual impurity). He would say, "Whoever intends to sleep while in a state of janabah, let him perform ablution for prayer."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا كَانَ جُنُبًا وَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَكَانَ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ

"If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to sleep while he was Junub, he would perform Wudu', and if he wanted to eat or drink," she said: "he would wash his hands and then eat or drink." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 257)

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ أَوْ يَشْرَبَ غَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ يَأْكُلُ أَوْ يَشْرَبُ إِنْ شَاءَ

"If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to sleep while he was Junub, he would perform Wudu', and if he wanted to eat or drink," she said: "he would wash his hands and then eat or drink." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 257)

أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ وَيَشْرَبَ قَالَتْ يَغْسِلُ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ يَأْكُلُ وَيَشْرَبُ

"When the Messenger of Allah wanted to sleep and he was sexually impure, he would perform ablution as for prayer." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 584)

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ أَكَلَ

[AI] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to sleep, he would perform ablution for prayer, then he would sleep.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْقُدَ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ يَرْقُدُ

[AI] She said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform ablution if he was in a state of impurity and wanted to sleep or eat.

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا كَانَ جُنُبًا فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ أَوْ يَأْكُلَ تَوَضَّأَ

[AI] The translation of the passage is as follows: "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to have sexual intercourse with any of his wives while she was menstruating, he ordered her to wrap herself in a cloth. And when he wanted to sleep while in a state of sexual impurity (after sexual intercourse), he would perform ablution for prayer."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُبَاشِرَ إِحْدَانَا وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ أَمَرَهَا فَاتَّزَرَتْ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ

when the prophet ﷺ intended to sleep while he was sexually defiled, he would perform ablution as he did for prayer. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 222)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ أَوْ يَأْكُلَ وَهُوَجُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ

[AI] I asked Aisha, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sleep while he was in a state of sexual impurity (junub)?" She replied, "Yes, but he would perform ablution similar to the ablution for prayer."

سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَنَامُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ وَلَكِنْ كَانَ يَتَوَضَّأُ مِثْلَ وُضُوءِ الصَّلَاةِ

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to avoid sleep at night, then he would perform ablution for prayer until morning, without touching water."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُجْنِبُ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثُمَّ يَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ حَتَّى يُصْبِحَ وَلَا يَمَسُّ مَاءً

[AI] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to have sexual intercourse with one of his wives while she was menstruating, he would command her to wrap herself with a cloth. And when he wanted to sleep while in a state of impurity (janabah), he would perform the ablution (wudu) for prayer."

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُبَاشِرَ إِحْدَانَا وَهِيَ حَائِضٌ أَمَرَهَا فَاتَّزَرَتْ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ

[AI] I asked Aisha, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sleep while he was in a state of impurity?" She said, "Yes, but he would not sleep until he washed his private area and performed ablution for prayer."

سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَنَامُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟ قَالَتْ نَعَمْ وَلَكِنَّهُ كَانَ لَا يَنَامُ حَتَّى يَغْسِلَ فَرْجَهُ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ

"When the Messenger of Allah wanted to sleep and he was sexually impure, he would perform ablution as for prayer." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 584)

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَجْنَبَ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ تَوَضَّأَ

[AI] Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , narrated that she asked him, "What did the Messenger of Allah do when he was in a state of major ritual impurity (junub) and wanted to sleep before performing ablution?" She said, "He would perform ablution for prayer and then go to sleep."

عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهَا كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ يَصْنَعُ إِذَا هُوَ جُنُبٌ وَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْتَسِلَ؟ قَالَتْ كَانَ يَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ يَنَامُ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever touches his private parts should perform ablution (wudu) for prayer."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «مَنْ مَسَّ ذَكَرَهُ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ»

[AI] He asked the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ , "Can one of us sleep while in a state of impurity (junub)?" He replied, "Yes, but he should perform ablution (wudu) if he wishes."

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَيَنَامُ أَحَدُنَا وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟ فَقَالَ «نَعَمْ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ إِنْ شَاءَ»

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ»

It was narrated from 'Aishah that if the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted to sleep while he was Junub, he would perform Wudu', and if he wanted to eat he would wash his hands. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 256)

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنَامَ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ لَمْ يَنَمْ حَتَّى يَتَوَضَّأَ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ * غَسَلَ يَدَيْهِ وَأَكَلَ»

"When the Messenger of Allah wanted to perform I'tikaf, he would perform Fajr prayer and then he would enter his place of I'tikaf." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 791)

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَعْتَكِفَ صَلَّى الْفَجْرَ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ فِيهِ»

Can one of us sleep if he is junub? He said: ʿYes, if he does wudoo’ as for prayer.ʿ It was narrated from Ibn ʿUmar that ʿUmar asked the Prophet ﷺ... a similar hadeeth. (Using translation from Aḥmad 235)

أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَيَنَامُ أَحَدُنَا وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ»

[AI] I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ if a person in a state of janabah can sleep? He said, "He should perform ablution for prayer."

سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ الْجُنُبِ يَنَامُ؟ قَالَ «يَتَوَضَّأُ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ»
