The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray two rakʿahs following every prescribed prayer, except Fajr and ‘Asr.  

أحمد:١٢٢٦ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ السَّلُولِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُصَلِّي عَلَى أَثَرِ كُلِّ صَلاةٍ مَكْتُوبَةٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ إِلا الْفَجْرَ وَالْعَصْرَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray two rakʿahs following every prescribed prayer except Fajr and ‘Asr. ‘Abdur-Rahman said: after every prayer.

البيهقي:٤٤٠٥ – أَمَّا الَّذِي يُخَالِفُهُ فِي الظَّاهِرِ فَفِيمَا أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَأَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ هُوَ الْأَصَمُّ ثنا أُسَيْدُ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ ؓ قَالَ
