[Machine] I heard Bilal ibn Saad say, "O people of eternity and O people of staying, you were not created for singing, rather you move from one abode to another, just as you were transferred from loins to wombs, from wombs to the world, from the world to graves, from graves to the station, and from the station to eternity."  

سَمِعْتُ بِلَالَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ يَقُولُ «يَا أَهْلَ الْخُلُودِ وَيَا أَهْلَ الْبَقَاءِ إِنَّكُمْ لَمْ تُخْلَقُوا للغِنَاءِ وَإِنَّمَا تَنْتَقِلُونَ مِنْ دَارٍ إِلَى دَارٍ كَمَا نُقِلْتُمْ مِنَ الْأَصْلَابِ إِلَى الْأَرْحَامِ وَمِنَ الْأَرْحَامِ إِلَى الدُّنْيَا وَمِنَ الدُّنْيَا إِلَى الْقُبُورِ وَمِنَ الْقُبُورِ إِلَى الْمَوْقِفِ وَمِنَ الْمَوْقِفِ إِلَى الْخُلُودِ»  

[Machine] "So I commanded my family and dressed them in white shirts, then I brought them closer and kissed them. Then he said, 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You for them from disbelief, misguidance of blindness, and from women and poverty until the end of their lives.'"  

فَأَمَرْتُ أَهْلِي فَألْبَسْتُهُمْ قُمُصًا بِيضًا ثُمَّ أَدْنَيتُهُمْ مِنْهُ فَقَبَّلَهُمْ وَشَمَّهُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ «اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُعِيذُهُمْ بِكَ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ وَضَلَالَةِ الْعَمَى وَمِنَ النِّسَاءِ وَالْفَقْرِ إِلَى بَنِي آدَمَ»  

[Machine] I saw them bustling among the shelves and laughing with each other, and when night came, they turned into monks.  

«أَدْرَكْتُهُمْ يَشْتَدُّونَ بَيْنَ الْأَغْرَاضِ وَيَضْحَكُ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ فَإِذَا كَانَ اللَّيْلُ كَانُوا رُهْبَانًا»  

[Machine] I heard Bilal ibn Saad saying, "Many are the happy people who are actually being deceived and are unaware. They eat, drink, and laugh, while it is already decreed for them in the Book of Allah that they are fuel for the Fire."  

سَمِعْتُ بِلَالَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ يَقُولُ «رُبَّ مَسْرُورٍ مَغْبُونٌ وَلَا يَشْعُرُ يَأْكُلُ [313] وَيُشْرَبُ وَيَضْحَكُ وَقَدْ حَقَّ لَهُ فِي كِتَابِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ مِنْ وَقُودِ النَّارِ»  

[Machine] Translation: "Speak to him whom it concerns, so that you are not ignored, for you have a duty to share your knowledge, just as you have a duty towards your wealth."  

تُحَدِّثْهُ غَيْرَ أَهْلِهِ فَتُجَهَّلَ إِنَّ عَلَيْكَ فِي عِلْمِكَ حَقًّا كَمَا عَلَيْكَ فِي مَالِكَ حَقًا»  

[Machine] "Allah Allah in your orphans, Allah Allah in your widows, Allah Allah in those who have no one but Allah."  

«اللَّهَ اللَّهَ فِي يَتَامَاكُمْ اللَّهَ اللَّهَ فِي أَرَامِلِكُمْ اللَّهَ اللَّهَ فِيمَنْ لَا أَحَدَ لَهُ إِلَّا اللَّهُ»  

[Machine] I heard Rashid ibn Abi Rashid saying, "There is no harm in a blessing with gratitude, nor is there any trial with patience, and there is no trial in obedience. The obedience of Allah is better than a blessing in disobedience to Allah."  

سَمِعْتُ رَاشِدَ بْنَ أَبِي رَاشِدٍ يَقُولُ كَانَ يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَيْسَرَةَ يَقُولُ «لَا تَضُرُّ نِعْمَةٌ مَعَهَا شُكْرٌ وَلَا بَلَاءٌ مَعَهُ صَبْرٌ وَلَا بَلَاءٌ فِي طَاعَةٍ طَاعَةُ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللَّهِ»  

[Machine] "Learn knowledge and understand it, and benefit from it, and do not learn it in order to show off with it, for if your life lasts long enough, it is likely that the knowledgeable person will show off with his knowledge just as the well-dressed person shows off with his attire."  

«تَعَلَّمُوا الْعِلْمَ واعْقِلُوهُ وَانْتَفِعُوا بِهِ وَلَا تَعَلَّمُوهُ لِتَجَمَّلُوا بِهِ فَإِنَّهُ يُوشِكُ إِنْ طَالَ بِكُمُ عُمْرٌ أَنْ يَتَجَمَّلَ ذُو الْعِلْمِ بِعِلْمِهِ كَمَا يَتَجَمَّلُ ذُو الْبِزَّةِ بِبِزَّتِهِ»  

[Machine] Two eyes that are not touched by fire, an eye that cried out of fear of Allah, and an eye that stayed awake behind the Muslims.  

عَيْنَانِ لَا تَمَسُّهُمَا النَّارُ عَيْنٌ بَكَتْ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ وَعَيْنٌ بَاتَتْ مِنْ وَرَاءِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ  

[Machine] "The most peaceful of people are those with the least sins in their hearts."  

«أَرَقُّ النَّاسِ قُلُوبًا أَقَلُهُمْ ذَنُوبًا»  

[Machine] "The believers are humble, faithful, like the nose of a camel. If you control it, it follows, and if you let go, it will rest on a rock."  

«الْمُؤْمِنُونَ هَيِّنُونَ آمِنُونَ مِثْلَ الْجَمَلِ الْأَنِفِ إِنْ قُدْتَهُ انْقَادَ وَإِنْ أَنَخْتَهُ عَلَى صَخْرَةٍ اسْتَنَاخَ»  

[Machine] Salih bin Mismaar said, "And the blessing of Allah upon us in what He has withheld from us from the world is greater than His blessing upon us in what He has bestowed upon us from it."  

صَالِحُ بْنُ مِسْمَارٍ «ولَنِعْمَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْنَا فِيمَا زَوَى عَنَّا مِنَ الدُّنْيَا أَفْضَلُ مِنْ نِعْمَتِهِ عَلَيْنَا فِيمَا بَسَطَ عَلَيْنَا مِنْهَا»  

[Machine] "He is preoccupied with his worldly affairs."  

عَنْ دُنْيَاهُ مَشْغُولُ  

[Machine] "That Allah has no need for me until afflictions befall me."  

أَنْ لَيْسَ لِلَّهِ ﷻ فِيَّ حَاجَةٌ حَتَّى نَزَلَ فِيَّ الْبَلَاءُ»  

[Machine] "Abi Musa had a Quran and he used to call it the key to the heart."  

«كَانَ لِأَبِي مُوسَى مُصْحَفٌ وَكَانَ يُسَمِّيهِ لُبَابَ الْفُؤَادِ»  

[Machine] "Aishah, may Allah have mercy on her, had a Quran, and she used to call it Al-Majeed."  

«كَانَ لِعَائِشَةَ رَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا مُصْحَفٌ وَكَانَتْ تُسَمِّيهِ الْمَجِيدَ»  

[Machine] "If you enter a house where no one is in it, say 'Peace be upon us from our Lord.'"  

«إِذَا دَخَلْتَ بَيْتًا لَيْسَ فِيهِ أَحَدٌ فَقُلِ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا مِنْ رَبِّنَا»  

[Machine] A man who had been harmed by sins, so whenever he remembered his sin, he belittled his action.  

رَجُلٌ اجْتَرَحَ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ فَكُلَّمَا ذَكَرَ ذَنْبَهُ احْتَقَرَ عَمَلَهُ  

[Machine] The rain failed during the reign of a king from the kings, specifically from the Children of Israel. He said, "People went out seeking rain, so he said, 'If it does not rain, I will anger him.' They asked, 'How will you anger him? With what will you anger him?' He replied, 'I will kill his righteous ones.' They said, 'So they became corrupt.'  

قَحَطَ الْمَطَرُ عَلَى عَهْدِ مَلِكٍ مِنَ الْمُلُوكِ يَعْنِي مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ قَالَ فَخَرَجَ النَّاسُ يَسْتَسْقُونَ فَقَالَ لَئِنْ لَمْ يَسْقِنَا لَأُغِيظَنَّهُ قَالُوا كَيْفَ تُغِيظُهُ بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ تُغِيظُهُ؟ قَالَ أَقْتُلُ أَوْلِيَاءَهُ قَالَ فَسُقُوا  

[Machine] And Ibn Ayyub said, "They considered him better than Sa'id ibn Jubayr."  

وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَيُّوبَ كَانُوا يَرَوْنَهُ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ  

[Machine] "To have youthfulness."  

أَنْ يَكُونَ لِلشَّابِّ صَبْوَةٌ»  

[Machine] "To strive at the time of death"  

أَنْ يَجْهَدَ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ»  

[Machine] "He used to very much enjoy competition."  

أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُحِبُّ شِدَّةَ النَّزْعِ  

[Machine] Ibrahim said, "I did not read this verse without being reminded of the coldness of the dust and he recited, 'And there will be a barrier between them and what they desire.' [Surah Saba, 54]"  

قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ مَا قَرَأْتُ يَعْنِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ إِلَّا ذَكَرْتُ بَرْدَ التُّرَابِ وَقَرَأَ {وَحِيلَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ مَا يَشْتَهُونَ} [سبأ 54]  

[Machine] "To walk and not to be walked upon, so do it."  

أَنْ تَمْشِيَ وَلَا يُمْشَى إِلَيْكَ فَافْعَلْ»  

[Machine] "Through him, and whoever calls his father by his name or by his nickname, has disobeyed him, unless he says 'O my father'".  

عَنْ طَرِيقِهِ وَمَنْ دَعَا أَبَاهُ بِاسْمِهِ أَوْ بِكُنْيَتِهِ فَقَدْ عَقَّهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَقُولَ يَا أَبَتِ»  

[Machine] To him belongs every wrongdoer for his wrongdoing, for he hastens towards it faster than your prayers against him, except that it will be overtaken by deeds and a mighty fortitude that prevents him from committing it.  

لَهُ «كِلِ الظَّالِمَ إِلَى ظُلْمِهِ فَإِنَّهُ أَسْرَعُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ دُعَائِكَ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَتَدَارَكَهُ بِعَمَلٍ وَقَمِنٌ أَنْ لَا يَفْعَلَ»  

كَانَ ابْنُ مُحَيْرِيزٍ يَجِيءُ بِالْكِتَابِ إِلَى عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ وَفِيهِ النَّصِيحَةُ فَيُقْرِئُهُ إِيَّاهُ ثُمَّ لَا يُقِرُّهُ فِي يَدِهِ  

[Machine] Ibn Muḥayrīz used to get angry when he was praised and would say, "What do you know? What makes you think you know?"  

كَانَ ابْنُ مُحَيْرِيزٍ إِذَا مُدِحَ فِي وَجْهِهِ غَضِبَ يَقُولُ مَا عِلْمُكَ مَا يُدْرِيكَ  

[Machine] "That he wore a silk robe"  

أَنْ أَلْبَسَ ثَوْبَ حَرِيرٍ»  

[Machine] "Whoever guards a night in the cause of Allah, he will have the equivalent of a carat of reward from every human and animal."  

«مَنْ حَرَسَ لَيْلَةً فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ كَانَ لَهُ مِنْ كُلِّ إِنْسَانٍ وَدَابَّةٍ قِيرَاطٌ قِيرَاطٌ»  

[Machine] "And why?" they said. "Because of the slave girl that was sent to him," he replied. "Abdul Malik sent her and he took her."  

وَلِمَ؟ قَالُوا مِنْ أَجْلِ الْجَارِيَةِ الَّتِي بَعَثَتْ بِهَا إِلَيْهِ قَالَ فَبَعَثَ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ فَأَخَذَهَا  

[Machine] When Ibn Muhayriz used to raid, he would spend the most on feeding his animals.  

كَانَ ابْنُ مُحَيْرِيزٍ إِذَا غَزَا كَانَ أَعْجَبُ النَّفَقَةِ إِلَيْهِ فِي عَلْفِ الدَّوَابِّ  

[Machine] "And I did not spend my money nor exert myself in anything without intention." He (the prophet) said, "So what is the third (thing)?" He said, "To sell (the items)." He said, "Have you seen if Allah made your heart blind as He made your vision blind, what would you do?" He said, "That would be hope." Hisham invited him for the pledge, but he refused. So he wrote a letter to Abdul Malik, and Abdul Malik wrote to him, "What is yours and Sa'id's, we did not commit anything to you that we would dislike." So if you do (the same), then strike him thirty lashes and dress him in patched clothing and banish him so that people do not follow him. Hisham invited him, but he refused. He said, "I will not pledge allegiance to two (leaders)." He (Hisham) then struck him thirty lashes and dressed him in patched clothing and banished him to the people. He (the narrator) said, "He (the Prophet) said, 'Hope, tell me about the Aliliyyun who were in the Shurat of the city.' They said, 'We knew that a person will not wear patched clothing willingly, so we said to him, 'O Abu Muhammad, it is death, so cover your private parts.' So he (Malik) wore (the clothing). He then said, 'When he was struck, it became clear to him that we had fooled him.' He (Malik) said, 'O people of Ayla! If only I thought it was death, I would not have worn it.'"  

وَمَا كُنْتُ لِأُنْفِقَ مَالِي وَأُجْهِدَ بَدَنِي فِي شَيْءٍ لَيْسَ فِيهِ نِيَّةٌ [316] قَالَ فَمَا الثَّالِثَةُ؟ قَالَ تُبَايِعْ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ اللَّهُ ﷻ أَعْمَى قَلْبَكَ كَمَا أَعْمَى بَصَرَكَ فَمَا عَلَيَّ؟ قَالَ وَكَانَ أَعْمَى قَالَ رَجَاءٌ فَدَعَاهُ هِشَامٌ إِلَى الْبَيْعَةِ فَأَبَى فَكَتَبَ فِيهَا إِلَى عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ مَا لَكَ وَلِسَعِيدٍ مَا كَانَ عَلَيْنَا مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ نَكْرَهُهُ فَأَمَّا إِذَا فَعَلْتَ فَاضْرِبْهُ ثَلَاثِينَ سَوْطًا وَأَلْبِسْهُ تُبَّانَ شَعْرٍ وَأَوْقِفْهُ لِئَلَّا يَقْتَدِي بِهِ النَّاسُ فَدَعَاهُ هِشَامٌ فَأَبَى فَقَالَ لَا أُبَايِعُ لِاثْنَيْنِ قَالَ فَضَرَبَهُ ثَلَاثِينَ سَوْطًا وَأَلْبَسَهُ تُبَّانًا مِنْ شَعْرٍ وَأَوْقَفَهُ لِلنَّاسِ قَالَ رَجَاءٌ حَدَّثَنِي الْأَيْلِيُّونَ الَّذِينَ كَانُوا فِي الشُّرَطِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَالُوا عَلِمْنَا أَنَّهُ لَا يَلْبَسُ تُبَّانًا طَائِعًا فَقُلْنَا لَهُ يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ إِنَّهُ الْقَتْلُ فَاسْتُرْ عَوْرَتَكَ قَالَ فَلَبِسَهُ قَالَ فَلَمَّا ضُرِبَ فَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُ أَنَّا خَدَعْنَاهُ فَقَالَ يَا مُعَجِّلَةَ أَهْلِ أَيْلَةَ لَوْلَا ظَنَنْتُ أَنَّهُ الْقَتْلُ مَا لَبِسْتُهُ  

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever takes pride in being a servant, Allah humiliates him."  

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مَنِ اعْتَزَّ بِالْعَبْدِ أَذَلَّهُ اللَّهُ»  

[Machine] "A man who often remembers death will abandon joy and envy."  

«مَا أَكْثَرَ رَجُلٌ ذِكْرَ الْمَوْتِ إِلَّا تَرَكَ الْفَرَحَ وَالْحَسَدَ»  

[Machine] I entered the home of Al-Orani, and he offered me a cup of coffee and dates. He said, "If there was something in the house that tasted better than this, I would feed you that." Then he said, "Ali ﷺ used to say, 'When your Muslim brother comes to visit you, feed him with the best of what is in your house. And if he is fasting, anoint him.'"  

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى حَيَّةَ الْعُرَنِيِّ فَقَدَّمَ إِلَيَّ دُقَّةً ورُطَبَةً يَعْنِي الْقِدَاحَ فَقَالَ كُلْ فَلَوْ كَانَ فِي الْبَيْتِ شَيْءٌ أَطْيَبُ مِنْ هَذَا لَأَطْعَمْتُكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ كَانَ عَلِيٌّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ يَقُولُ «إِذَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْكَ أَخُوكَ الْمُسْلِمُ فَأَطْعِمْهُ مِنْ أَطْيَبِ مَا فِي بَيْتِكَ فَإِنْ كَانَ صَائِمًا فَادَّهِنْهُ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, on that Day you will be questioned about the blessings." He said, "Safety and good health."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسلَّمَ {لَتُسْأَلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ النَّعِيمِ} [التكاثر 8] قَالَ «الْأَمْنُ الصِّحَّةُ»  

[Machine] The health of the body  

صِحَّةُ الْجَسَدِ  

“Allah ﷻ gives worldly [provisions] to those whom He loves and to those whom He does not love, but He gives religion only to those whom He loves and when Allah loves a servant He grants him faith. So whoever is afraid to fight the enemy, or is terrified of enduring through the night, or is stingy to spend from his wealth, then he should increase [saying] the tasbīh (subhān Allāh), the tahmīd (al-ḥamdu lillāh), and the tahlīl (Allāhu akbar).”  

«إِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ يُعْطِي الدُّنْيَا مَنْ يُحِبُّ وَمَنْ لَا يُحِبُّ، وَلَا يُعْطِي الدِّينَ إِلَّا مَنْ يُحِبُّ، فَإِذَا أَحَبَّ اللَّهُ عَبْدًا أَعْطَاهُ الْإِيمَانَ. فَمَنْ خَافَ الْعُدْوَانَ يُجَاهِدْهُ، وَهَابَ اللَّيْلَ أَنْ يُكَابِدَهُ، وَبَخِلَ بِالْمَالِ أَنْ يُنْفِقَهُ، فَلْيُكْثِرْ مِنَ التَّسْبِيحِ وَالتَّحْمِيدِ وَالتَّهْلِيلِ»  

[Machine] "Oh Mu'awiyah, you are nothing but a grave among graves. If you come with something, then you have something, and if you don't come with anything, then you have nothing, O Mu'awiyah. Do not think that the caliphate is about accumulating wealth and distributing it. Rather, the caliphate is about acting with justice, speaking with fairness, and taking care of the people for the sake of Allah. O Mu'awiyah, we do not care about the abundance of rivers and what they contain. Our concern lies in the welfare of our people, and indeed you are the leader of our people, O Mu'awiyah. If you protect a tribe from the tribes of Arabia, your honor will be preserved by your justice. When Abu Muslim finished his speech, Mu'awiyah approached him and said, 'May Allah have mercy on you, may Allah have mercy on you.'"  

يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ إِنَّمَا أَنْتَ قَبْرٌ مِنَ الْقُبُورِ إِنْ جِئْتَ بِشَيْءٍ كَانَ لَكَ شَيْءٌ وَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِئْ بِشَيْءٍ فَلَا شَيْءَ لَكَ يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الْخِلَافَةَ جَمْعَ الْمَالِ وَتَفْرِقَتَهُ وَلَكِنَّ الْخِلَافَةَ الْعَمَلُ بِالْحَقِّ وَالْقَوْلُ بِالْمَعْدَلَةِ وَأَخْذُ النَّاسِ فِي ذَاتِ اللَّهِ يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ إِنَّا لَا نُبَالِي بِكَدَرِ الْأَنْهَارِ وَمَا صَفَتْ لَنَا رَأْسُ عَيْنِنَا وَإِنَّكَ رَأْسُ أَعْيُنِنَا يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ إِنَّكَ إِنْ تَحِفْ عَلَى قَبِيلَةٍ مِنْ قَبَائِلِ الْعَرَبِ يَذْهَبُ حَيْفُكَ بِعَدْلِكَ فَلَمَّا قَضَى أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ مَقَالَتَهُ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَقَالَ «يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ»  

[Machine] "That Abu Muslim Al-Khawlani complained to him about a man who keeps bothering him, so Abu Muslim said, 'If you criticize people, they will criticize you. If you leave them alone, they will not leave you alone. And if you run away from them, they will catch up to you.' The man asked, 'So what should I do?' Abu Muslim replied, 'They are your aim for a day of poverty. Take something that is not from anything.'"  

أَنَّ أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ الْخَوْلَانِيَّ شَكَا إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ مَا يَلْقَى مِنْ تَأَذِّيهِ بِالنَّاسِ فَقَالَ أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ إِنَّكَ إِنْ تُنَاقِدِ النَّاسَ نَاقَدُوكَ وَإِنْ تَتْرُكَهُمْ لَا يَتْرُكُوكَ وَإِنْ تَفِرَّ مِنْهُمْ يُدْرِكُوكَ قَالَ فَمَا أَصْنَعُ؟ قَالَ هُمْ غَرَضُكَ لِيَوْمِ فَقْرِكَ وَخُذْ شَيْئًا لَا مِنْ شَيْءٍ  

[Machine] He [Mohammed] heard him [Jibril] saying: "The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah did not reveal to me to amass wealth and become one of the traders, but He revealed to me to exalt the praises of your Lord and be among the prostrators, and worship your Lord until the certainty (death) comes to you." [Surah Al-Hijr: 99]  

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَهُ يَقُولُ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ مَا أَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَيَّ أَنْ أَجْمَعَ الْمَالَ وأَكُنْ مِنَ التَّاجِرِينَ وَلَكِنْ أَوْحَى إِلَى أَنْ {فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُنْ مِنَ السَّاجِدِينَ وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ} [الحجر 99]  

[Machine] About the time, Abu Muslim delayed them while he was performing ablution on the bank of a river, talking to himself about their matter. Then, a raven landed on a tree and said, "O Abu Muslim, did you worry about the matter of the secret group?" He replied, "Yes." The raven said, "Do not worry, for they have obtained spoils and are safe. They are with you at such and such a time." Abu Muslim asked, "Who are you, may Allah have mercy on you?" The raven replied, "I am Isra'il, the one who brings joy to the hearts of believers." Then, the people came at the mentioned time, as he had mentioned.  

عَنِ الْوَقْتِ فَأَهَمَّ أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ إِبْطَاؤُهُمْ فَبَيْنَا هُوَ يَتَوَضَّأُ عَلَى شَاطِئِ نَهْرٍ وَهُوَ يُحَدِّثُ نَفْسَهُ بِأَمْرِهِمْ إِذْ وَقَعَ غُرَابٌ عَلَى شَجَرَةٍ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ أَهُمِمْتَ بِأَمْرِ السَّرِيَّةِ؟ فَقَالُ أَجَلْ فَقَالَ لَا تَهْتَمَّ فَإِنَّهُمْ قَدْ غَنِمُوا وَسَلِمُوا وَهُمْ عِنْدَكَ فِي وَقْتِ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ مَنْ أَنْتَ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ؟ فَقَالَ أَنَا أرْتِيَائِيلُ مُفَرِّحُ قُلُوبِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ قَالَ فَجَاءَ الْقَوْمُ فِي الْوَقْتِ الَّذِي ذَكَرَهُ عَلَى مَا ذَكَرَهُ  

[Machine] We left Homs heading towards Damascus, and as we passed by the crossing that leads from Homs for about four miles, at the end of the night, the monk in the monastery noticed us and said, "Who are you, people?" We said, "We are people from Damascus who came from the land of Rome." He said, "Do you know Abu Muslim al-Khawlani?" We said, "Yes." He said, "If you see him, greet him with peace and let him know that we consider him to be the companion of Jesus son of Mary ﷺ . If you know him, you will not find him alive." When we reached Ghouta, we received news of his death. May Allah be pleased with him.  

أَنْ خَرَجْنَا مِنْ حِمْصَ مُتَوَجِّهِينَ إِلَى دِمَشْقَ مَرَرْنَا بِالْمَعْبَرِ الَّذِي يَلِي حِمْصَ مِنْهَا عَلَى نَحْوٍ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةِ أَمْيَالٍ فِي آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ الرَّاهِبُ الَّذِي فِي الصَّوْمَعَةِ اطَّلَعَ إِلَيْنَا فَقَالَ مَا أَنْتُمْ يَا قَوْمُ؟ فَقُلْنَا أُنَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ دِمَشْقَ أَقْبَلْنَا مِنْ أَرْضِ الرُّومِ فَقَالَ هَلْ تَعْرِفُونَ أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ الْخَوْلَانِيَّ؟ فَقُلْنَا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَقْرِؤُهُ السَّلَامَ وَأَعْلِمُوهُ أَنَّا نَجِدُهُ فِي الْكِتَابِ رَفِيقَ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ ﷺ أَمَا إِنَّكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْرِفُونَهُ لَا تَجِدُونَهُ حَيًّا قَالَ فَلَمَّا أَشْرَفْنَا عَلَى الْغُوطَةِ بَلَغَنَا مَوْتُهُ رِضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ  

[Machine] The people suffered a drought during the reign of Muawiyah, may Allah have mercy on him. He went out to seek their supplication for rain. When they looked at the praying area, Muawiyah said to Abu Muslim, "Do you see what has happened to the people? Pray to Allah." Abu Muslim responded, "Should I do so despite my shortcomings?" He then stood up, wearing a cloak, and removed the cloak from his head. He raised his hands and said, "O Allah, we seek rain from You, while I have brought my sins to You. Do not disappoint me." They did not disperse until they were given water to drink. Abu Muslim said, "O Allah, Muawiyah has placed me in a position of responsibility. If there is goodness for me with You, then take me towards You." This happened on a Thursday, and Abu Muslim, may Allah have mercy on him, passed away on a preceding Thursday.  

قَحَطَ النَّاسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ مُعَاوِيَةَ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ فَخَرَجَ يَسْتَسْقِي بِهِمْ فَلَمَّا نَظَرُوا إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ لِأَبِي مُسْلِمٍ تَرَى مَا دَاخَلَ النَّاسَ فَادْعُ اللَّهَ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَفْعَلُ عَلَى تَقْصِيرِي فَقَامَ وَعَلَيْهِ بُرْنُسٌ فَكَشَفَ الْبُرْنُسَ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا بِكَ نَسْتَمْطِرُ وَقَدْ جِئْتُ بِذُنُوبِي إِلَيْكَ فَلَا تُخَيِّبْنِي قَالَ فَمَا انْصَرَفُوا حَتَّى سُقُوا قَالَ فَقَالَ أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ أَقَامَنِي مَقَامَ سُمْعَةٍ فَإِنْ كَانَ عِنْدَكَ لِي خَيْرٌ فَاقْبِضْنِي إِلَيْكَ قَالَ وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ فَمَاتَ أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْخَمِيسِ الْمُقْبِلِ  

[Machine] Abu Muslim Al-Khawalani used to supplicate in the voluntary prayers, "O Allah, grant Abu Muslim cooked food. O Allah, provide Abu Muslim with cooked food. O Allah, provide Abu Muslim with oil. O Allah, grant Abu Muslim firewood, and he would ask for whatever he desired."  

أَنَّ أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ الْخَوْلَانِيَّ كَانَ يَدْعُو فِي النَّافِلَةِ «اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْ أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ طَبِيخًا اللَّهُمَّ ازْرُقْ أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ طَبِيخًا اللَّهُمَّ ازْرُقْ أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ زَيْتًا اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْ أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ حَطَبًا وَيَسْأَلُ فِيهَا كُلَّمَا يُرِيدُهُ»  

[Machine] Abu Muslim Al-Khawlani said, "If it were said that Hellfire would be kindled, I would do everything in my power to increase my good deeds."  

قَالَ أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ «لَوْ قِيلَ إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ تُسَعَّرُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ فِي عَمَلِي»  

[Machine] Abu Muslim al-Khawlani used to go around proclaiming Islam. He went to Muawiyah, so they said to him, "Abu Muslim is going around proclaiming Islam." So Muawiyah sent for him and said, "What are you doing, Abu Muslim? Are you proclaiming Islam?" He replied, "Yes." Abu Muslim then approached Muawiyah, who said to him, "If you do good, you will be rewarded with good, and if you do evil, you will be recompensed accordingly, O Muawiyah. If you were to administer justice to all the people on earth and then wrong just one person, your wrongdoing would outweigh your fairness."  

كَانَ أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ الْخَوْلَانِيُّ يَطُوفُ يَنْعَى الْإِسْلَامَ فَأَتَى مُعَاوِيَةُ فَقِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّ أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ يَطُوفُ يَنْعَى الْإِسْلَامَ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ مَا تَصْنَعُ يَا أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ أَتَنْعَى الْإِسْلَامَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَأَقْبَلَ أَبُو مُسْلِمٍ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ فَقَالَ «إِنْ عَمِلْتَ خَيْرًا جُزِيتَ خَيْرًا وَإِنْ عَمِلْتَ سُوءًا جُزِيتَ بِهِ يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ لَوْ عَدَلْتَ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ كُلِّهِمْ ثُمَّ جُرْتَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ لَمَالَ جَوْرُكَ بِعَدْلِكَ»  

[Machine] That a man sat on the side of the road with a rag containing dinars, and every person who passed by gave him dinars. The other man beside him praised and glorified Allah, for the person who praises Allah the most will receive the greatest reward.  

أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَلَسَ عَلَى ظَهَرِ الطَّرِيقِ وَمَعَهُ خِرْقَةٌ فِيهَا دَنَانِيرُ لَا يَمُرُّ إِنْسَانٌ إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ دَنَانِيرَ وَآخَرُ إِلَى جَانِبِهِ يُكَبِّرُ لَكَانَ صَاحِبُ التَّكْبِيرِ أَعْظَمَ أَجْرًا»
