ahmad-zuhd:2310ʿAbdullāh from my father > Abū Usāmah > Badr b. Jalīl al-Asadī > Ismāʿīl b. Saʿīd

[Machine] I entered the home of Al-Orani, and he offered me a cup of coffee and dates. He said, "If there was something in the house that tasted better than this, I would feed you that." Then he said, "Ali ﷺ used to say, 'When your Muslim brother comes to visit you, feed him with the best of what is in your house. And if he is fasting, anoint him.'"  

الزهد لأحمد:٢٣١٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ حَدَّثَنِي بَدْرُ بْنُ جَلِيلٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ

دَخَلْتُ عَلَى حَيَّةَ الْعُرَنِيِّ فَقَدَّمَ إِلَيَّ دُقَّةً ورُطَبَةً يَعْنِي الْقِدَاحَ فَقَالَ كُلْ فَلَوْ كَانَ فِي الْبَيْتِ شَيْءٌ أَطْيَبُ مِنْ هَذَا لَأَطْعَمْتُكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ كَانَ عَلِيٌّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ يَقُولُ «إِذَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْكَ أَخُوكَ الْمُسْلِمُ فَأَطْعِمْهُ مِنْ أَطْيَبِ مَا فِي بَيْتِكَ فَإِنْ كَانَ صَائِمًا فَادَّهِنْهُ»
