[Machine] I heard Al-Hasan narrating that he said, "O son of Adam, abandoning sins is easier than seeking repentance."
[Machine] I heard Al-Hasan narrating that he said, "O son of Adam, abandoning sins is easier than seeking repentance."
[Machine] They mentioned humility to Al-Hasan while he remained silent until they spoke to him in abundance. He said to them, "I see that you have spoken excessively about humility." They asked, "What is humility, O Abu Sa'id?" He said, "It is when one leaves his home and does not meet a Muslim without thinking that they are better than him."
[Machine] The ascetic in the worldly life, the desirer of the Hereafter, the insightful in his religion, the diligent in worship, this scholar.
[Machine] "They were hoping, on the night of redemption, for an expiation of what has passed of sins."
[Machine] About Hassan, he is a persistent, obedient person who wallows in falsehood and persists in what was not created for him. Many bad companions have deceived him.
[Machine] He said, "By Allah, there is no man who wakes up today and obeys his wife except that Allah humiliates him in the Fire on his face."
[Machine] I heard al-Hasan saying, "Intention is more significant than the act itself."
[Machine] When I woke up, I said, "O Abu Sa'id, you have made our family cry tonight." He said, "O Ali, I said 'O Hassan,' but I meant himself, hoping that Allah would look at you and relieve some of your afflictions. He said, 'Do whatever you want, for I will not accept anything from you.'"
[Machine] "When a believer seeks something, if it is made available to him by the provisions of Allah, he accepts it and praises Allah for it. And if it does not become available to him, he leaves it and does not insist on it."
[Machine] I heard Al-Hasan saying, "When a servant sleeps while in prostration, Allah beautifies him with the angels saying, 'Look at my servant who worships Me and his soul is with Me, while he is in prostration."
[Machine] I heard Al-Hasan recite a poem before this [al-Bahr al-Khafif]. It says, "Not everyone who dies finds rest in the deceased; rather, the deceased is the one who is dead among the living. Then he says, 'Indeed, by Allah, the body may be alive while the heart is dead'."
[Machine] I met Al-Juhani while I was on a journey and he was also on a journey. He said, "Oh Malik, I have traveled to different places and have met many people, but I have never seen anyone like Al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Hasan. Oh, how I wish we had obeyed him, how I wish we had obeyed him."
[Machine] I said to Hasan, "O Abu Sa'id, a person sins, then repents, then sins again, then repents, then sins again, then repents, until when?" He said, "I only know this from the qualities of the believers."
[Machine] "He who blames his brother for a sin that he has already repented to Allah will be tested by Allah with the same sin."
[Machine] "Indeed, a man may enter a space, sit in a gathering, or eat a meal, and his heart may change. So beware of entering the houses of the affluent, for entering them changes the heart of a man, and he becomes displeased with what is in his hands."
[Machine] Al-Hasan said, may Allah have mercy on him, "Goodness is a habit, and evil is persistence."
[Machine] About the Sheikh, he did not eat and it was already midday. Al-Hasan rebuked him and said, "Leave him, for by Allah, if a man is from among the Muslims, he would visit his brother and they would converse and mention their Lord until his companion prevents him from doing so."
[Machine] I entered upon Al-Hasan while he was complaining about his tooth and saying, "{When he called to his Lord, 'Indeed, I am touched by hardship, and you are the most merciful of the merciful.'" (Quran 21:83).
[Machine] Al-Hasan used to say, "By Allah, you will either endure or perish, and by Allah, (He is) the Mighty (and) the Destroyer."
[Machine] I heard Al-Hasan say about this verse "And I do not swear by the reproaching soul" [Al-Qiyamah: 2]. He said, "Indeed, you will not see a believer except that he rebukes himself. He says, 'What did I intend with my words?' He says, 'What did I intend with my food?' He says, 'What did I intend with the conversation of my soul?' So you will not see him except that he admonishes it. And indeed, the sinful person moves forward without admonishing himself."
[Machine] Al-Hasan said: "Verily, Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth with certainty. Paradise was sought with certainty, and with certainty one flees from the Fire. With certainty, obligations are fulfilled, and with certainty one endures in steadfastness upon the truth. And in the mercy of Allah there is much good. By Allah, I have seen people varying in prosperity, but when affliction descends upon them, they become equal."
[Machine] Al-Hasan al-Basri said, "O beautiful-eyed one, your eyes shed tears in the depths of the night out of fear of Allah."
[Machine] "O Son of Adam, you have speech, action, secret, and public, and your action is more deserving of you than your speech, and your secret is more deserving of you than your public."
[Machine] Yunus ibn Ubaid, when he didn't find anyone and wasn't busy, would say, "Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him, glory be to Allah and praise be to Him."
[Machine] "O you who gives charity to the poor, have mercy on him, have mercy on the one whom you have oppressed."
[Machine] Yunus has gathered all these qualities in Hasan, may Allah have mercy on him.
[Machine] Indeed, the man used to complain about the thorn, saying, "I know that you are at fault, and my Lord has not wronged me."
[Machine] He said, "The religion of Allah has been placed between extremism and negligence.
[Machine] He said regarding His statement: {So We revived him to a good life} [An-Nahl 97], he said: "Life is not good for anyone except in Paradise."
[Machine] "O son of Adam, your religion is your religion; it is only your flesh and blood. If your religion is safe, your body and blood will also be safe. But if it is corrupted, we seek refuge in Allah, for it is a fire that cannot be extinguished, a body that does not decay, and a breath that does not die."
[Machine] Al-Hasan said, "If it weren't for our sins, we would only fear the love of this world for the sake of ourselves. It is because of our fear for ourselves that we fear the consequences of the love of this world. Indeed, Allah says, 'Do you desire the worldly life while Allah desires the Hereafter?' (Quran 8:67) We should desire what Allah desires."
[Machine] And he said, "Indeed, whoever sits in this gathering and then accepts a gift, he has no manners or he said, 'He has no manners.'"
[Machine] "O son of Adam, what religion would be too difficult for you if the fulfillment of your prayers becomes difficult for you? Verily, it is easiest upon Allah."
[Machine] About Al-Hasan, they used to say "The first look is excusable for the son of Adam, but what about the hereafter?"
[Machine] "Many a glance has ignited desire in the heart of its beholder, and many a desire has bestowed upon its owner long-lasting sadness."
[Machine] "If you see people competing in this world, then compete with them in the hereafter, for their worldly possessions will perish but the hereafter will remain."
[Machine] "I saw a wound on the hand of Abu Abdullah, so I brought medicine and said, apply this on it. He took it and returned it, so I asked why he returned it. He said, 'You are [more in need of it]'"
[Machine] "Beware of your desires, for Allah is merciful to you, and indeed, no one has been granted goodness in this world or the Hereafter with their desires."
[Machine] He did little work and took his provisions from it to Paradise, and what a terrible home it was for the disbeliever and the hypocrite. That is because he indulged in the nights and his provisions went to the Fire.
[Machine] I heard Al-Hassan say, "Those who give what they give while their hearts are fearful" [Al-Mu'minun 60]. He said, "They used to do righteous deeds while being afraid that it may not save them from the punishment of Allah."
[Machine] He presented to him this verse, "Verily, with us are (heavy) fetters and a blazing fire, and a food that chokes, and a painful torment." [Al-Muzzammil 13]. He said, so his hand was restored to him. He said, "Raise him, so we raised him." He said, "So he became a fasting person. When he wanted to break his fast, he mentioned the verse and did it again. When the third day came, his son set out to Thabit bin Banani and to Yahya, crying, and some of the companions of Al-Hasan. He said, "Catch up with my father, for he has not tasted any food for three days. Every time we approached him, he mentioned this verse, 'Verily, with us are (heavy) fetters and a blazing fire.' [Al-Muzzammil 12]." So they went to him and did not leave him until they gave him a sip of barley water.
[Machine] I witnessed Al-Hasan, so I heard him when he became heavy, and he said, "Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return." He continued until he finished, then his son Abdullah fell upon him and said, "O my father, why do you complain? You have frightened us, so have you seen anything?" He said, "O my son, I complain to myself. I have never been afflicted with anything like it."
[Machine] May Allah have mercy on you, this is not what befits a weak believer.
[Machine] "And by Allah, I have encountered people and associated with groups among them who did not rejoice in anything of the worldly life and did not feel regret over anything of it. Their pastime was lighter in their eyes than this dust. One of them would live for fifty years without ever having a garment lengthened for him or a price set for him, and he did not place anything between himself and the earth. He never ordered the making of food in his house. So when the night came, they would stand on their toes, resting their faces, and tears would flow on their cheeks as they supplicated to their Lord, seeking release from the bondage of their necks. When they did a good deed, they would continue to give thanks to Allah and request that it be accepted. And when they committed a sin, it saddened them, and they would ask Allah to forgive it. They continued in this manner, by Allah, never finding respite from sins nor escaping except by seeking forgiveness.
