ahmad-zuhd:1638ʿAbdullāh from my father > Wakīʿ > Abū al-Ashhab > al-Ḥasan > al--Adhīn Yuʾtūn Mā Ātawā Waqulūbuhum Wajilah al-Mʾmnwn 60

[Machine] I heard Al-Hassan say, "Those who give what they give while their hearts are fearful" [Al-Mu'minun 60]. He said, "They used to do righteous deeds while being afraid that it may not save them from the punishment of Allah."  

الزهد لأحمد:١٦٣٨حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَشْهَبِ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ يَقُولُ {الَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوْا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ} [المؤمنون 60] قَالَ «كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ مَا يَعْمَلُونَ مِنْ أَعْمَالِ الْبِرِّ وَهُمْ مُشْفِقُونَ أَلَّا يُنْجِيَهُمْ ذَلِكَ مِنْ عَذَابِ اللَّهِ ﷻ»
