"The Messenger of Allah commanded me to pray two Rakahs of Duha, and not to sleep until I had prayed witr, and to fast three days each month."
أَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِرَكْعَتَىِ الضُّحَى وَأَنْ لاَ أَنَامَ إِلاَّ عَلَى وِتْرٍ وَصِيَامِ ثَلاَثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنَ الشَّهْرِ

She said: 'May Allah have mercy on your father.' I said: 'Tell me about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' She said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did such and such.' I said: 'Yes indeed.' She said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray Isha' at night, then he would go to his bed and sleep. In the middle of the night, he would get up to relieve himself and go to his water for purification and perform wudu. Then he went into the Masjid and prayed eight rak'ahs. I think he made the recitation, bowing and prostration equal in length. Then he prayed one rak'ah of witr, then he prayed two rak'ahs sitting down. Then he lay down on his side. Sometimes Bilal would come and tell him that it was time to pray before he napped, and sometimes he napped. And sometimes I was not sure if he had napped or not before he told him that it was time to pray. This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray until he grew older and gained weight"- and she mentioned whatever Allah (SWT) willed about his gaining weight. She said: "And the Prophet ﷺ used to lead the people in praying witr, then he would go to his bed. In the middle of the night, he would get up and go to water for purification, and to relieve himself, then he would perform wudu. Then he would go into the masjid and pray six rak'ahs, and I think he made the recitation, bowing, and prostration equal in length. Sa'd ibn Hisham said: I came to Medina and called upon Aisha, and said to her: Tell me about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to lead the people in the night prayer, and then go to his bed and sleep. When midnight came he got up, went to answer the call of nature and to perform ablution with water. Having performed ablution, he entered the mosque and prayed eight rak'ahs. To my mind he performed the recitation of the Qur'an, bowing and prostrating equally. He then observed witr with one rak'ah and prayed two rak'ahs sitting. Then he lay down on the ground. Sometimes Bilal came to him and called him for prayer. He then dozed, and sometimes I doubted whether he dozed or not, till he (Bilal) called him for prayer. This is the prayer he offered till he grew old or put on weight. She then mentioned how he put on weight as Allah wished.

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O people of the Qur'an, pray witr, for Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, is Witr (One) and loves Al-Witr (the odd numbered).'"
أَوْتَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْتِرُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ ﷻ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ
The Prophet ﷺ said: Allah is single (witr) and loves what is single, so observe the witr, you who follow the Qur'an.
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْتِرُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ
“Witr is not definite (obligatory) nor is it like your prescribed prayers. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Witr, then he said: ‘O people of the Qur’an! Perform Witr, for Allah is Witr* and He loves the odd (numbered).’” * Meaning 'one' which is the first of the odd numbers; He is unique, and there is nothing like Him, similar or equal.
عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ إِنَّ الْوِتْرَ لَيْسَ بِحَتْمٍ وَلاَ كَصَلاَتِكُمُ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ وَلَكِنْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَوْتَرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْتِرُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿO people of the Qurʿan, pray Witr, for Allah, may He Be glorified and exalted, is One and loves that which is odd numbered.ʿ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْتِرُوا فَإِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوَتْرَ
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿAllah, may He be glorified and exalted, is One and loves that which is odd-numbered, so pray Witr, O people of the Qurʿan.ʿ
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوَتْرَ فَأَوْتِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ʿAllah is One and loves that which is odd numbered, so pray Witr. O people of the Qur’an.”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوَتْرَ فَأَوْتِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ
ʿAllah is One and loves that which is odd numbered, so pray Witr, O people of the Qur’an.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 1225)
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "Verily, Allah is One Who loves odd numbers."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ وَتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوَتْرَ
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O people of the Qur'an, pray witr, for Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, is Witr (One) and loves Al-Witr (the odd numbered).'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1675)
أَوْتَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ قَالَ «يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْتِرُوا؛ فَإِنَّ اللهَ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ»
ʿAllah is One and loves that which is odd numbered, so pray Witr, O people of the Qur’an.” (Using translation from Aḥmad 1225)
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ» اللهَ وُتِرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ فَأَوْتِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ
The Prophet ﷺ said: Allah is single (witr) and loves what is single, so observe the witr, you who follow the Qur'an. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1416)
"إِنَّ الله وتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الوتْرَ فأَوتِرُوا يا أَهْلَ القُرْآنِ ".
"أَوتِروا يا أَهْلَ القرآن، إِنَّ اللَّه وترٌ يُحِبُّ الْوترَ، فقال أَعرابى: ما تقول يا رسول اللَّه؟ قال: ليست لك وَلا لأَصْحَابكَ" .
"يَا أهْلَ الْقُرْآنَ أَوْترُوا؛ فَإِنَّ الله وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ ".
"Witr is not essential like the obligatory prayers, but it is the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
الْوِتْرُ لَيْسَ بِحَتْمٍ كَهَيْئَةِ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ وَلَكِنَّهُ سُنَّةٌ سَنَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ

الْوِتْرُ لَيْسَ بِحَتْمٍ كَالصَّلَاةِ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ وَلَكِنَّهُ سُنَّةٌ سَنَّهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَوْتِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ فَإِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ
" عن عَلِىٍّ قالَ: الوِتْرُ لَيْسَ بِحَتْمٍ مثل الصَّلاَةِ الْمكتُوبَةِ، وَلَكِنَّه سُنَّةٌ سَنَّها رَسولُ الله ﷺ ".

"My father, Talq bin 'Ali visited me one day in Ramadan and stayed with us until the evening. He led us in praying Qiyam that night and prayed witr with us. Then he went down to a masjid and led his companions in prayer until only witr was left. Then he told a man to go forward and said to him: 'Lead them in praying witr, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: There should not be two witrs in one night."
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لاَ وِتْرَانِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ
Qays ibn Talq said: Talq ibn Ali visited us on a certain day during Ramadan. He remained with us till evening and broke fast with us. He then stood up and led us in the witr prayer. He then went to his mosque and led them in prayer. When the witr remained, he put forward another man and said: Lead your companions in the witr prayer, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: There are no two witrs during one night.

his father said: I heard Messenger of Allah saying: "There are no two Witr in one night."

I asked Ibn 'Abbas about the Witr prayer. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: It is a rak'ah at the end of the night prayer. (Using translation from Muslim 753)

[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "A prayer during the late hours of the night."
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ رَكْعَةٌ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , say, "A unit of night prayer."
سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ رَكْعَةٌ مِنْ آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about witr and he said: 'Pray witr before dawn (Subh).'"
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ يَقُولُ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْوَتْرِ فَقَالَ أَوْتِرُوا قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about Al-Witr (Night Prayer). He replied, "Perform Witr before the dawn (Fajr) prayer."
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْوَتْرِ فَقَالَ أَوْتِرُوا قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ
[Machine] He informed me and said, "I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the Witr (night prayer). He replied, 'Perform Witr prayer before dawn.'"
أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْوَتْرِ فَقَالَ أَوْتِرُوا قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ
[Machine] The translation of the Arabic sentence "أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْوِتْرِ فَقَالَ «أَوْتِرُوا قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ»" into English is: "The messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about Al-Witr (an odd-numbered prayer), and he said, 'Perform Al-Witr prayer before dawn.'"
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سُئِلَ عَنِ الْوِتْرِ فَقَالَ «أَوْتِرُوا قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ»
[Machine] He informed them that they asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about Witr prayer, and he said Witr prayer is before dawn.
أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُمْ سَأَلُوا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْوِتْرِ فَقَالَ الْوِتْرُ قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ
He was in the masjid of 'Amr bin Shurahbil and the iqamah for prayer was said, and they were waiting. He came and said: "I was praying witr." Abdullah was asked: "Is there any witr after the adhan?" He said: "Yes, and after the Iqamah." And he narrated that the Prophet ﷺ once slept and missed the prayer until the sun had risen, then he prayed.
وَسُئِلَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ هَلْ بَعْدَ الأَذَانِ وَتْرٌ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَبَعْدَ الإِقَامَةِ وَحَدَّثَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ نَامَ عَنِ الصَّلاَةِ حَتَّى طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى
