The Prophet ﷺ said: The time limit for wiping over the socks for a traveller is three days (and three nights) and for a resident it is one day and one night. Abu Dawud said: Another version adds: Had we requested him to extend (the period of wiping), he would have extended.

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ الْمَسْحُ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ لِلْمُسَافِرِ ثَلاَثَةُ أَيَّامٍ وَلِلْمُقِيمِ يَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ

The Prophet ﷺ said: The contractual obligation of a slave is three days.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ عُهْدَةُ الرَّقِيقِ ثَلاَثَةُ أَيَّامٍ

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set a time limit of three days and three nights for the traveler, and one day and one night for the resident - meaning, with regards to wiping (over the Khuffs)."

جَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِلْمُسَافِرِ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيَهُنَّ وَيَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً لِلْمُقِيمِ يَعْنِي فِي الْمَسْحِ

"They said: 'O Messenger of Allah! What about the purification of the leather socks?' He said: 'For the traveler it is three days and nights, and for the resident it is one day and one night.'"

قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا الطُّهُورُ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ قَالَ لِلْمُسَافِرِ ثَلاَثَةُ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيهِنَّ وَلِلْمُقِيمِ يَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ

"The contractual obligation regarding a slave lasts for three days." (1)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عُهْدَةُ الرَّقِيقِ ثَلاَثَةُ أَيَّامٍ

"There is no contractual obligation after four (days)."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لاَ عُهْدَةَ بَعْدَ أَرْبَعٍ

سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنِ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فَقَالَتْ سَلْ عَلِيًّا فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ ثَلاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيهِنَّ يَعْنِي لِلْمُسَافِرِ وَيَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ لِلْمُقِيمِ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "The night shift of a servant is four nights." Qatadah said, "The people of Madinah say it is three nights."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ عُهْدَةُ الرَّقِيقِ أَرْبَعُ لَيَالٍ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ وَأَهْلُ الْمَدِينَةِ يَقُولُونَ ثَلَاثُ لَيَالٍ

[AI] "On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, he said: The responsibility of the servant is threefold."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ عُهْدَةُ الرَّقِيقِثَلَاثٌ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ هَدَايَا الْعُمَّالِ غُلُولٌ

The Prophet ﷺ said: The contractual obligation of a slave is three days. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3506)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «عُهْدَةُ الرَّقِيقِ أَرْبَعُ لَيَالٍ»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted us permission to wipe over the socks for three days for a traveler, and for a day and a night for a resident."

«رَخَّصَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْمَسْحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ لِلْمُسَافِرِ وَيَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً لِلْحَاضِرِ»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted us permission to wipe over the socks in the city for a day and a night, and for the traveler for three days and nights."

«رَخَّصَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ فِي الْحَضَرِ يَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً وَلِلْمُسَافِرِ ثَلَاثَةً أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيَهُنَّ»

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prescribed wiping over the socks for three days and nights for the traveler, and one day and night for the resident."

«أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَّتَ فِي الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ وَلَيَالِيَهُنَّ لِلْمُسَافِرِ وَلِلْمُقِيمِ يَوْمٌ وَلَيْلَةٌ»

[AI] The Prophet Muhammad, ﷺ , said, "There is no bequest for an heir."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَا وَصِيَّةَ لِوَارِثٍ»
