٧۔٢۔٥٦ الْحَكَمُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ الثُّمَالِيُّ
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Trim the moustache short and leave the beard."
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «قُصُّوا الشَّارِبَ مَعَ الشِّفَاهِ»
[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ conquered Khaybar, Al-Hajjaj ibn 'Alaat said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have wealth and family in Makkah, and I want to go to them. I am in a state of Ihram (ritual consecration), so I am allowed to take something from you or say something [to be excused]." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him permission to say whatever he wanted. Al-Hajjaj went to his wife when he arrived and said, "Gather everything you have, for I want to buy from the spoils of Muhammad and his companions, as they have been made permissible to them and their wealth has been taken away from them. This news spread in Makkah, causing distress among the Muslims and delight among the polytheists. The news reached Al-Abbas ibn 'Abdul Muttalib, who became distraught and unable to stand. He sent a young boy to Al-Hajjaj ibn 'Alaat, saying, 'What have you brought and what do you say?' The boy replied, 'There is nothing better than what Allah has promised you.' Al-Hajjaj said, 'Read my greetings to Al-Fadl and tell him to provide me with some of his houses so that I can come to him, as the news has pleased him.' When his boy reached Al-Fadl, he said, 'Good news, O Abu Al-Fadl.' Al-Abbas became overjoyed and leapt up until he kissed the boy between his eyes. The boy informed him of what Al-Hajjaj had said, and Al-Abbas ransomed him. Then Al-Hajjaj came and informed him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had conquered Khaybar, accumulated its wealth, and chosen Safiyyah bint Huyayy for himself, giving her the choice to be freed and become his wife. She chose to be freed and become his wife. However, I came here for what belonged to me and wanted to collect it and take it away.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me permission to say whatever I wanted, so I spoke to him secretly three times, and then I mentioned what seemed appropriate to me." Then Al-Hajjaj's wife gathered all her jewelry and belongings and gave them to him. He tied them up and went. After three days, Al-Abbas went to the wife of Al-Hajjaj and asked her, "What has your husband done?" She told him that he had left on such and such day and said, "Don't be sad, may Allah bless you, O Abu Al-Fadl. What you have heard has been difficult for us." He replied, "By Allah, I am telling the truth. The matter is as I have told you." Then he went until he reached the gatherings of the Quraysh, who said, "When he passes by, only good befalls you, O Abu Al-Fadl." He replied, "Nothing has befallen me except what is good by the grace of Allah. Al-Hajjaj ibn 'Alaat told me that Khaybar has been conquered by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and Allah's arrows have been unleashed on their wealth. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has chosen Safiyyah bint Huyayy for himself." He had asked me to keep it a secret from you three times and had only come to collect what was rightfully his and to take it away. Then Allah removed the sadness that had befallen the Muslims and caused it to befall the polytheists. The Muslims left their homes feeling dejected until they came to Al-Abbas, who informed them of the news. The Muslims rejoiced and Allah returned what had been taken from them - sorrow, anger, and sadness - back to the polytheists.
