A silk cloak was presented to Messenger of Allah ﷺ. and he sent it to me and I wore it. but then found some sign of disapproval upon his face, whereupon he said: I did not send it to you that you wear it, but I sent it to you so that you might tear it and make out head dream for your women.

أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حُلَّةُ سِيَرَاءَ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَىَّ فَلَبِسْتُهَا فَعَرَفْتُ الْغَضَبَ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أَبْعَثْ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهَا إِنَّمَا بَعَثْتُ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتُشَقِّقَهَا خُمُرًا بَيْنَ النِّسَاءِ

A robe containing silk was presented to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He then sent it to me. I wore it and came to him. I saw him looking angry in his face. He then said: I did not send it to you to wear. He ordered me and I divided it among my women.

أُهْدِيَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حُلَّةٌ سِيَرَاءُ فَأَرْسَلَ بِهَا إِلَىَّ فَلَبِسْتُهَا فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَرَأَيْتُ الْغَضَبَ فِي وَجْهِهِ وَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أُرْسِلْ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَلْبَسَهَا وَأَمَرَنِي فَأَطَرْتُهَا بَيْنَ نِسَائِي

"A Hullah of Sira' was given to the Messenger of Allah [SAW] and he sent it to me. I put it on, then I saw anger in his face. He said: 'I did not give it to you to wear it.' Then he told me to divide it among my womenfolk."

سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حُلَّةُ سِيَرَاءَ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَىَّ فَلَبِسْتُهَا فَعَرَفْتُ الْغَضَبَ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ أَمَا إِنِّي لَمْ أُعْطِكَهَا لِتَلْبَسَهَا فَأَمَرَنِي فَأَطَرْتُهَا بَيْنَ نِسَائِي

It was narrated from ʿAli ؓ that The Prophet ﷺ was given a suit of pure silk. He sent it to me and I went to him in the evening wearing it. I recognised anger on the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.So I shared it among my womenfolk.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أُهْدِيَتْ لَهُ حُلَّةٌ سِيَرَاءُ فَأَرْسَلَ بِهَا إِلَيَّ فَرُحْتُ بِهَا فَعَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْغَضَبَ قَالَ فَقَسَمْتُهَا بَيْنَ نِسَائِي

I heard ʿAli ؓ say: A suit made of silk was brought to the Prophet ﷺ. He sent it to me and I put it on, then I saw displeasure in his face, and he told me to divide it between the women as head covers.

سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِحُلَّةِ حَرِيرٍ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَيَّ فَلَبِسْتُهَا فَرَأَيْتُ الْكَرَاهِيَةَ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَأَمَرَنِي فَأَطَرْتُهَا خُمُرًا بَيْنَ النِّسَاءِ

I heard ‘Ali ؓ say: A suit of silk was given to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he sent it to me. I went out wearing it, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was so angry that I could see anger on his face. He said: “I did not give it to you to wear it.” Then he told me to divide it among my womenfolk.

أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حُلَّةٌ سِيَرَاءُ فَبَعَثَ بِهَا إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَخَرَجْتُ فِيهَا فَغَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ الْغَضَبَ فِي وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ إِنِّي لَمْ أُعْطِكَهَا لِتَلْبَسَهَا قَالَ فَأَمَرَنِي فَأَطَرْتُهَا بَيْنَ نِسَائِي

[AI] I heard Ali saying, "I gifted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a robe made of silk, and he sent it to me. I wore it and noticed anger on his face. He said, 'Certainly, I did not give it to you for you to wear it.' He then ordered me to give it to my wives." Abu Abdur Rahman said, "Ishaq reported that Mahanu narrated this, but the correct narration is from Abdul Rahman bin Qais, the brother of Talik." Shu'bah reported it from Abdul Malik bin Maysarah, from Zaid bin Wahb, from Ali.
