"Ibn 'Alqamah appointed my father to be in charge of his people, and he commanded him to collect their Sadaqah. My father sent me to a group of them to bring their Sadaqah to him. I set out and came to an old man who was called Sa'r. I said: My father has sent me to collect the Sadaqah of your sheep. 'He said: O son of my brother, how will you decode what you want to take?' I said" 'We choose, and we even measure the sheep's udders.' He said: O son of my brother, I tell you that I was in one of these mountain passes at the time of the Messenger of Allah with some sheep of mine. Two men came on a camel and said: We are the messengers of the Messengers of Allah, we come to take the Sadaqah of your sheep. I said: What do I have to give? They said: A sheep. So I went to a sheep that I knew was filled with milk and was fat, and brought it out to them. He said: This is a Shafi - a sheep that has a child or is pregnant - and the Messenger of Allah forbade us to take a Shafi'. So I went to a Mu'tat she-goat - a Mutat is one that has not given birth before, but has reached the age where it could produce young- and brought it out to them. They said: We will take it. So I lifted it up to them, and they took it with them on their camel and left."' (Daif) (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2462)

Nafi' ibn Alqamah appointed my father as charge d'affaires of his tribe, and commanded him to collect sadaqah (zakat) from them. My father sent me to a group of them; so I came to an aged man called Sa'r ibn Disam I said: My father has sent me to you to collect zakat from you. He asked: What kind of animals will you take, my nephew? I replied: We shall select the sheep and examine their udders. He said: My nephew, I shall narrate a tradition to you. I lived on one of these steppes during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ along with my sheep. Two people riding a camel came to me. They said to me: We are messengers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, sent to you so that you may pay the sadaqah (zakat) on your sheep. I asked: What is due from me for them? They said: One goat. I went to a goat which I knew was full of milk and fat, and I brought it to them. They said: This is a pregnant goat. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited us to accept a pregnant goat. I asked: What will you take then? They said: A goat in its second year or a goat in its third year. I then went to a goat which had not given birth to any kid, but it was going to do so. I brought it to them. They said: Give it to us. They took it on the camel and went away. Abu Dawud said: Abu 'Asim transmitted this tradition from Zakariyya. He said: Muslim bin Shu'bah is a narrator in the chain of this tradition as reported by the narrator Rawh.

[Machine] Al-Qama used to work as a shepherd for his tribe. One day, his father sent him to a woman from the same tribe to collect some charity. Al-Qama went to a man called Si'r in a remote area and asked him to give him some sheep as charity. Si'r asked where he was taking them and Al-Qama replied that they would take the best ones they could find. Si'r told him that he had some sheep in a remote area and that two men claiming to be messengers of the Prophet ﷺ had come asking for the same charity. Al-Qama asked what they wanted and they said they wanted a sheep. Al-Qama found a pregnant sheep and took it to them. The men said it was a pregnant sheep and that the Prophet ﷺ had advised against taking pregnant sheep as charity. Al-Qama asked what else they would take and they said they would take a young camel, a branch, or a young female camel. Al-Qama gave them a branch. They asked him to give it to them, so he handed it over and they placed it on their camel.

[Machine] My nephew, let me tell you a story. I was once in a tribe of these tribes during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . I had a sheep, and two men came to me on a camel and said, "We are messengers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to you, to give the charity from your sheep." I asked, "What do I have in it?" They replied, "A pregnant ewe." I went to a ewe that I knew was full of milk and fat, and I brought it to them. They said, "This is the Shafi'i sheep, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited us from taking a Shafi'i. I asked, "Then what do you want?" They said, "We want a young shrub or a two-year-old lamb." I went to a pregnant ewe that had not yet given birth, and its birth was near, and I brought it to them. They said, "Hand it to us." They placed it with them on their camel, and then they left. This is what Waki' said, and the correct narration is that the ewe was in labor. And Mus'ab bin Thafana said, and the correct narration is that the narrator is Muslim bin Shu'ba. Yahya bin Ma'in and others from the Hadith scholars narrated it. Abu al-Hasan bin Abdan told us that Ahmad bin Ubayd al-Saffar narrated to us, who narrated from Al-Harith bin Abi Usama, who narrated from Ruha bin Ubada, who narrated from Zakariya bin Ishaq, who narrated from Amr bin Abi Sufyan, who narrated to me Muslim bin Shu'ba. He mentioned the hadith in its meaning and added, "The ewe that had its offspring in its womb."

Note: This is a translation of a passage from a hadith, a saying or action of the Islamic prophet Muhammad ﷺ . The passage discusses a situation where the narrator gives a charity of a sheep to two messengers of the Prophet, but they inform him that they cannot accept a sheep that is prohibited by the Prophet. They request a young shrub or a two-year-old lamb instead. The narrator then brings a pregnant ewe that has not yet given birth to them, and they accept it.
