" Those whom they call upon, themselves seek the means of access to their Lord," that it related to a group of people who worshipped a party amongst the Jinn. The group from amongst the Jinn embraced Islam, but the people kept worshipping them as they did before, and it was (on this occasion) that the verse was revealed:" Those whom they call upon, themselves seek the means of access to their Lord." This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Sulaiman with the same chain of transmitters.

[Machine] There was a group of humans who were worshipping a group of jinn. Then the group of jinn accepted Islam and the humans continued to cling to their worship. So Allah, the Almighty, revealed, "Say, 'Call upon those whom you claim [as deities] besides Him; they have no power to remove affliction from you or to change it.' Those [whom they invoke] seek means of access to their Lord, [striving as to] which of them would be nearest, and they hope for His mercy and fear His punishment." [Surah Al-Isra' 57] "Both groups with the letter 'ya'."
