My partner sold silver to be paid in the (Hajj) season or (in the days of) Hajj. He (my partner) came to me and informed me, and I said to him: Such transaction is not desirable. He said: I sold it in the market (on loan) but nobody objected to this. I went to al-Bara' b. 'Azib and asked him, and he said: Allah's Apostle ﷺ came to Medina and we made such transaction, whereupon he said: In case the payment is made on the spot, there is no harm in it, and in case (it is 'sold) on loan, it is usury. You better go to Zaid b. Arqam, for he is a greater trader than I; so I went to him and asked him, and he said like it.

A partner of mine sold some Dirhams on credit in the market. I said, "Glorified be Allah! Is this legal?" He replied, "Glorified be Allah! By Allah, when I sold them in the market, nobody objected to it." Then I asked Al-Bara' bin ʿAzib (about it) he said, "We used to make such a transaction when the Prophet came to Medina. So he said, 'There is no harm in it if it is done from hand to hand, but it is not allowed on credit.' Go to Zaid bin Al- Arqam and ask him about it for he was the greatest trader of all of us." So I asked Zaid bin Al-Arqam., and he said the same (as Al-Bara) did."

"Sharik sold some silver on credit for me. He came to me and told me. And I said: 'This is not correct.' He said; 'By Allah, I did this transaction in the market and no one criticized me .' So I went to Al-Bara bin Azib and asked him about that. He said: 'The Prophet came to us in Al-Madinah and we used to do this kind of transaction, but he said: Whatever is hand to hand, there is nothing wrong with it, but whatever is on credit, is Riba. Then he said to me: 'Go to Zaid bin Arqam.' So I went to him and asked him, and he said the same thing."

tabarani:453Bishr b. Mūsá > al-Ḥumaydī > Sufyān > ʿAmr b. Dīnār > Maʿ Abū al-Minhāl

[Machine] "He (Abu Al-Minhāl) said that he sold a partner of mine in Al-Kufa, dirhams for dirhams, with some surplus. So, I said, this does not seem right. He replied, I sold it in the market, and no one blamed me for it. So, I went to Al-Barā' bin 'Āzib and asked him about it. He said, The Prophet ﷺ came to Al-Madinah, and our trade used to be like this. He (the Prophet) said, if it is hand to hand, then there is no harm in it, and if it includes deception, then there is no good in it. Then, I went to Zaid bin Arqam, as he was the greater merchant than me. I went to him and mentioned it to him. He (Zaid) said, Al-Barā' is right. Al-Humaydi said, This (transaction) is abrogated and should not be taken into consideration."
