11. Book of Zakāh (4/5)
The honest Muslim trustee who spends (sometimes he said" who gives" ) what he is commanded to do and he gives that in full with his heart overflowing with cheerfulness and he gives it to one to whom he is ordered, he is one of the givers of charity. (Using translation from Muslim 1023)
[Machine] "I was a slave, so I used to give in charity the meat from my master's meat. I asked the Prophet ﷺ , and he said, 'Give in charity, and the reward will be divided equally between you both.'"
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand."
The Prophet ﷺ said: Hands are of three types: Allah's hand is the upper one; the bestower's hand is the one near it; the beggar's hand is the lower one. So bestow what is surplus, and do not submit yourself to the demand of your soul. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1649)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best charity is what is given while one is self-sufficient, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand. Let one of you start with those who depend on him. His wife will say, 'Spend on me,' and his mother will say, 'To whom will you entrust me?' And his servant will say, 'Feed me and give me employment.'"
the Messenger of Allah said, when mentioning charity and those who refrain from asking. "The upper hand is better than the lower hand; the upper hand is that which gives and the lower hand is that which asks." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2533)
[Machine] A person came to her, so Aisha ordered something for him. When the servant went out, she called her and looked at him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "Do not give anything unless you have knowledge." She said, "I know." He said to her, "Do not hoard, for Allah will take account of you."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "No prayer is accepted unless with purification, and no charity is accepted from ill-gotten wealth". And I was in Basra.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said, "Whoever accumulates wealth unlawfully and then gives it in charity, he will not have any reward for it, and his burden will be upon him."
Who has planted these trees of dates-a Muslim or a non-Musim? She said: A Muslim, of course, whereupon he said: Never a Muslim plants, or cultivates a land, and it out of that men eat, or the animals eat, or anything else eats, but that becomes charity on his (planter's) behalf. (Using translation from Muslim 1552b)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "A Muslim does not plant a sapling or anything else, and a bird, human or animal eats from it, except that the Muslim will be rewarded for it."
He said, 'O Messenger of Allah, take this as a charity from me, for by Allah, apart from this, I have no wealth left.' The Prophet ﷺ turned away from him. Then the man came to him from his other side and said the same thing, and again the Prophet ﷺ turned away from him. Finally, the man came to him from the front, and the Prophet ﷺ took it from him and threw it away, giving him a warning that if it had hit his face, it would have caused him pain or injury. Then he said, 'One of you comes to people with everything he owns, and then seeks charity from them. Charity only befits a person who is in need. Take back your wealth, for we have no need for it.'"

[Machine] He heard Sahl ibn al-Hanzaliyyah, the companion of the Messenger of Allahﷺ saying that Al-Aqra' and 'Uyainah asked the Messenger of Allahﷺ for something. So Mu'awiyah was ordered to write it for them, and the Messenger of Allahﷺ sealed it and ordered it to be given to them. As for 'Uyainah, he asked, "What is in it?" and it was said to him, "It contains what you have been commanded." So he accepted it, tied it in his turban, and he was the more gentle of the two men. As for Al-Aqra', he said, "I carry a document, I don't know what's in it, like the document of a blind person." So Mu'awiyah informed the Messenger of Allahﷺ of what they said. Then the Messenger of Allahﷺ went out for his needs and passed by a tied camel at the door of the mosque early in the day, then he passed by it at the end of the day and it was still in the same place. So he asked, "Where is the owner of this camel?" They searched for him but did not find him. He said, "Fear Allah with regard to these animals. Ride them when they are healthy and eat them when they are fat and fattened. Indeed, whoever asks for something while he possesses what suffices him, he is only accumulating from the embers of Hellfire." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, what would suffice him?" He said, "What feeds him or provides him with clothing."

Some of the Ansar begged from the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) and he gave them something. They later begged from him again and he gave them something so that what he had was exhausted. Be cautious about ahadith except those which were current during the reign of Umar, for he exhorted people to fear Allah, the Exalted and mMajestic. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: He upon whom Allah intends to bestow goodness, He confers upon him an insight in religion; and I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying: I am the treasurer. To one whom I give out of (my own) sweet will, he would be blessed in that, but he whom I give (yielding to) his constant begging and for his covetousness is like one who would eat, but would not be satisfied.
[Machine] He has a long life. Indeed, I am telling you what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: "If Allah brings to you sustenance without asking or seeking it, then take it, for Allah has given it to you."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever is entrusted with something good from his brother without asking or seeking a favor in return, let him accept it and not reject it. Indeed, it is a provision that Allah has bestowed upon him."

The Prophet ﷺ said: If anyone seeks protection in Allah's name, grant him protection; if anyone begs in Allah's name, give him something; if anyone gives you an invitation, accept it; and if anyone does you a kindness, recompense him; but if you have not the means to do so, pray for him until you feel that you have compensated him.
