11. Book of Zakāh (1/5)
"While we were with the Messenger of Allah in the early hours of the morning, some people came who were naked and barefoot, with their swords hung (around their necks). Most of them, may all of them, belonged to the tribe of Mudar. The face of the Messenger of Allah changed when he saw them in poverty. He went in (to his house) then he came out and ordered Bilah to call the Adhan and then the Iqamah. He (the Prophet) prayed, tjem je addressed te,, (reciting the Verses): 'O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and from him(Adam) He created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], and from them both He created many men and women: and fear Allah through Whom you demand (your mutual right), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever and All-Watcher over you.' [1] and: 'Fear Allah and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for the morrow,' [2] Then they gave in charity, some giving a Dinar, others a Dirham, or a garment, or a Sa' of wheat or, a Sa' of dates, until he said: 'Even half a date.' A man from among the Ansar came with a bag of money which his hands could hardly lift. The people followed one another (in giving charity) until I saw two heaps of food and clothing, and I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah shining like gold (with joy). The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever sets a good precedent in Islam, he will have the reward for that, and the reward of those who acted in accordance with it, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest. And whoever sets an evil precedent in Islam, he will have a burden of sin for that, and the burden of those who acted in accordance with it, without that detracting from their burden in the slightest."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2554)
the Messenger of Allah said: "Indeed charity extinguishes the Lord's anger and it protects against the evil death." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 664)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Every person is in the shade of their charity until the matter is settled between people" or he said, "until it is decided between people." Yazid said, "So Abu Al-Khair never missed a day without giving something in charity, even if it was just a small cake or an onion."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever is able to protect themselves from the fire of Hell, even if it is by giving half a date in charity, should do so."
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Which charity is the most superior in reward?" He replied, "The charity which you practice while you are healthy, niggardly and afraid of poverty and wish to become wealthy. Do not delay it to the time of approaching death and then say, 'Give so much to such and such, and so much to such and such.' And it has already belonged to such and such (as it is too late)." (Using translation from Bukhārī 1419)
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "The example of the hypocrite and the miser is like that of two men who have two gardens beside them. As for the hypocrite, when he wants to spend (for charity), his garden expands until it reaches his feet, but then his influence evaporates. And as for the miser, when he wants to spend (for charity), every ring remains in its place and does not expand. He wants to widen it, but it does not widen."
One who has the longest hands amongst you would meet me most immediately. She farther said: They (the wives of Allah's Apostle) used to measure the hands as to whose hand was the longest and it was the hand of Zainab that was the longest amongst them, as she used to work with her hand and Spend (that income) on charity. (Using translation from Muslim 2452)
[Machine] The wives of the Prophet ﷺ gathered around him, and not one of them left. One of them said, "O Messenger of Allah, which one of us is the fastest in reaching you?" He replied, "The one with the longest hand." So they started grabbing a stick, trying to reach it. Soudah bint Zam'ah grabbed it, but she died. She used to give a lot in charity, so we thought that when he said the one with the longest hand, he meant in giving charity.
[Machine] The Prophet Muhammadﷺ said, "No Muslim servant gives in charity from lawful earnings except that Allah accepts it and Allah takes it in His right hand and causes it to grow for him, just as one of you raises his horse, colt, or foal until it becomes like the mountain of Uhud."
[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: "Verily, Allah fosters a date fruit and morsel of food for one of you just as one of you raises a foal or young horse until it becomes similar to a camel."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "One of you might give in charity a date fruit from a good source, but Allah only accepts that which is good. Allah takes it in His hand and grows it as one of you grows his colt or calf, until it becomes in His hand as huge as a mountain."

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If one give in charity what equals one date-fruit from the honestly earned money and Allah accepts only the honestly earned money --Allah takes it in His right (hand) and then enlarges its reward for that person (who has given it), as anyone of you brings up his baby horse, so much s that it becomes as big as a mountain (Using translation from Bukhārī 1410)
[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ once gave a sermon to women and advised them to fear Allah and obey their husbands. He said, "Among you, some will enter Paradise while joining their fingers, and others will enter Hell while separating their fingers." The women asked, "O Messenger of Allah, why is that?" He replied, "You curse frequently, and you are ungrateful and show ingratitude for the good done to you."
11.9 [Machine] The heading "صَدَقَةِ التَّطَوُّعِ" translates to "Voluntary Charity.
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to go out on the day of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha to perform two units of prayer, then he would say the salaam and go to the people while he was standing in his prayer area. Then he would sit and face them and say to the people, "Give charity." Most of those who would give charity were women, who would give their earrings and bracelets. If he had any need, he would send someone to the people, otherwise he would leave.
[Machine] Ibn Abbas witnessed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed on the day of Eid, then delivered a sermon, and then went to the women and commanded them to give charity.
[Machine] From the Prophet ﷺ, it is narrated that he said to the women, "Give charity, for indeed you are the majority of the inhabitants of Hell." A woman who was not from a high-class background asked, "Why is that so, O Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands." Abdullah said, "The deficiency in intelligence and religion is most prevalent among men who have authority over their women." It was asked, "And what is the deficiency in her intelligence and religion?" He said, "As for the deficiency in her intelligence, the testimony of two women is equal to the testimony of one man. And as for the deficiency in her religion, it is that on some days, she does not offer a single prayer."
the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Feed the hungry, visit the sick, and free the ʿānī (captive). Sufyān said: ʿānī means captive.
[Machine] I went, along with Al-Hasan, Al-Husayn, and Usama ibn Zaid, on the day of Eid. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also went to the prayer place and prayed with us. Then he delivered a sermon and said, "O people, this is a day of charity, so give in charity." A man started taking off his ring, and another man started taking off his garment. Bilal held on to them, waiting until he didn't see anyone giving anything. Then Bilal approached the women and said, "O women, this is a day of charity, so give in charity." So the women started taking off their bracelets and rings. Bilal held on to them, waiting again until he didn't see anyone giving anything. Then Bilal approached and we all moved forward.
[Machine] I heard Abu Dharr Al-Rabathi say, "I was walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the outskirts of Madinah in the evening when someone approached us. He said, 'O Abu Dharr, I would not like to have anyone before me tonight, as I have only a single dinar left, which I need to pay off my debts, except that I say certain things about it in the cause of Allah.' He pointed in front of him, behind him, to his right, and to his left, and then he said, 'O Abu Dharr, the majority will be the minority on the Day of Resurrection.' Then he said to me, 'Do not move from here until I come to you.' He left and went into the blackness of the night, and I heard a voice which made me fear that it might be the voice of the Shaytaan imitating the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I intended to leave, but then I remembered his words, so I sat down and waited until he came. I said to him, 'I wanted to come to you, O Messenger of Allah.' Then I mentioned what he had said to me, and I heard a voice saying, 'That was Jibreel (Gabriel) who came to me and informed me that whoever dies among my ummah without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise.' "The Messenger of Allah said: "The best of charity is that which is given when you are self-sufficient, and start with those for whom you are responsible."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2544)
Abu Hurairah reported I asked Messenger of Allah ﷺ, What kind of sadaqah is most excellent? He replied What a man with little property can afford to give; and begin with those for whom you are responsible. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1677)
"The Messenger of Allah said: 'A Dirham was better than a hundred thousand Dirhams.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how?' He said: 'A man had two Dirhams and gave one in charity, and another man went to part of his wealth and took out a hundred thousand Dirhams and gave them in charity."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2528)

"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what charity is best?' He said: 'Giving water to drink.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 3684)
The Prophet ﷺ said: "There are three whom Allah (SWT) loves: A man who comes to some people and asks (to be given something) for the sake of Allah and not for the sake of their relationship, but they do not give him, so a man stayed behind and gave it to him in secret, and no one knew of his giving except Allah (SWT) and the one to whom he gave it. People who travel all night until sleep becomes dearer to them than anything equated with it, so they lay down their heads (and slept), then a man among them got up and started praying to Me and beseeching Me, reciting My Verses. And a man who was on a campaign and met the enemy and they fled, but he went forward (pursuing them) until he was killed or victory was granted." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1615)
[Machine] On the authority of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , he said: "There are three whom Allah loves and three whom Allah hates. Allah loves a man who is among a group of people and a beggar comes to them and asks them for something for the sake of Allah, not asking them for any relationship or connection between them and him, but they refuse and turn him away. Then he (the man) follows them as they depart, to such an extent that no one can see him except Allah and the one who gave him something. Allah also loves a man who is in the military and they become outnumbered, so he says, 'Allahu Akbar,' and fights until Allah grants him victory or he is killed. And Allah loves a man who is among a group of people, and they set up camp and their night becomes prolonged. They prefer to sleep rather than to spend the night in prayer. So they sleep, and he stands to recite My verses and to beseech Me, and he dislikes the old man who commits adultery and the miserly arrogant person. And he mentions the third (person)."

This is the one who is deprived."

"Sa'd bin 'Ubadah went out with the Prophet on one of his campaigns, and death came to his mother in Al-Madinah. It was said to her (as she was dying): 'Make a will.' She said: 'To whom shall I make a will? The wealth belongs to Sa'd.' Then she died before Sa'd came. When Sa'd came, he was told about that and he said: 'O Messenger of Allah, will it benefit her if I give in charity on her behalf?' The Prophet said: 'Yes.' Sa'd said: 'Such and such a garden is given in charity on her behalf' -regarding a garden that he named." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3650)

While a person was in the wilderness he heard a voice from the cloud (commanding it thus): Irrigate the garden of so and so. (After that the clouds slinked aside and poured water on a stony ground. It filled a channel amongst the channels of that land and that person followed that water and he found a person standing in the garden busy in changing the course of water with the help of a hatchet. He said to him: Servant of Allah, what is your name? he said: So and so. And it was that very name which he had heard from the clouds. and he said to him: Servant of Allah, why do you ask me my name? He said: I heard a voice from the clouds of which is the downpour, saying: Water the garden of so and so, like your name. What do you do (for the favour) shown to you by Allah in this matter? He said: Now as you state so. I look what yield I get from it, and I give one-third as charity out of it and I and my children eat one-third of it and one-third I return to it as investment. A man expressed his intention to give charity, so he came out with charity and placed it in the hand of an adulteress. In the morning, the people were talking and saying: charity was given to an adulteress last night. He (the giver of Sadaqa) said: 0 Allah, to Thee be the praise-to an adulteress. He then again expressed his intention to give charity; so he went out with the charity and placed it in the hand of a rich person. In the morning the people were talking and saying: Charity was given to a rich person. He (the giver of charity) said: 0 Allah, to Thee be the praise-to a well-to-do person. He then expressed his intention to give charity, so he went out with charity and placed it in the hand of a thief. In the morning, the people were talking and saying: Charity was given to a thief. So (one of the persons) said: 0 Allah, to Thee be the praise (what a misfortune it is that charity has been given to) the adulteress, to a rich person. to a thief! There came (the angel to him) and he was told: Your charity has been accepted. As for the adulteress (the charity might become the means) whereby she might restrain herself from fornication. The rich man might perhaps learn a lesson and spend from what Allah has given him, and the thief might thereby refrain from committing theft. (Using translation from Muslim 1022)

Apostle of Allah, I have nothing with me, but only, that which is given to me by Zubair (for household expenses). Is there any sin for me if I spend out of that which is given to me (by Zabair)?
