(Later on) Messenger of Allah ﷺ (once again) went along with Ubai bin Ka'b to the garden of date-palms where Ibn Saiyad was staying. When the Prophet entered the garden, he started hiding himself behind the trunks of the date-palms as he wanted to hear something from the Ibn Saiyad before the latter could see him. Ibn Saiyad was lying in his bed, covered with a velvet sheet from where his murmurs were heard. Ibn Saiyad's mother saw the Prophet ﷺ while he was hiding himself behind the trunks of the date-palms. She addressed Ibn Saiyad, "O Saf!" (And this was his name). Ibn Saiyad got up. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Had this woman let him to himself, he would have revealed the reality of his case." Then the Prophet ﷺ got up amongst the people, glorifying Allah as He deserves, he mentioned Ad-Dajjal, saying, "I warn you about him (i.e. Ad-Dajjal) and there is no prophet who did not warn his nation about him, and Noah warned his nation about him, but I tell you a statement which no prophet informed his nation of. You should understand that he is a one-eyed man and Allah is not one-eyed."

It is related that 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar reported that 'Umar went with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a group to visit Ibn Sayyad. They found him playing with some children in the hills of Banu Maghala. Ibn Sayyad, who was approaching puberty, did not notice them until the Prophet ﷺ patted him with his hand and then said to him, 'Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?' Ibn Sayyad looked at him and said, 'I testify that you are the Messenger of the unlettered.' Ibn Sayyad said to the Prophet, 'Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?' He refuted it and said, 'I have believed in Allah and His Messengers.' Then he said to him, 'What dreams do you have?' Ibn Sayyad replied, 'Both truthful people and liars come to me.' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'You are in a state of confusion.' Then the Prophet ﷺ said to him, 'I am concealing something from you.' Ibn Sayyad said, 'It is just smoke.' He said, 'Shame on you! You will not go too far.' 'Umar said, 'Messenger of Allah, let me cut his head off?' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'If it is him (i.e. the Dajjal), you will not be able to get the better of him. If it is not him, there is no point in killing him.'"

Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Ubai bin Kaʿb Al-Ansari went to the garden where Ibn Saiyad used to live. When Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered (the garden), he (i.e. Messenger of Allah ﷺ ) started hiding himself behind the date108 palms as he wanted to hear secretly the talk of Ibn Saiyad before the latter saw him. Ibn Saiyad wrapped with a soft decorated sheet was lying on his bed murmuring. Ibn Saiyad's mother saw the Prophet hiding behind the stems of the date-palms. She addressed Ibn Saiyad saying, "O Saf, this is Muhammad." Hearing that Ibn Saiyad stopped murmuring (or got cautious), the Prophet ﷺ said, "If she had left him undisturbed, he would have revealed his reality." (See Hadith No. 290, Vol 4 for details)

'Umar b. Khattab went along with Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the company of some persons to Ibn Sayyad that he found him playing with children near the battlement of Bani Maghala and Ibn Sayyad was at that time just at the threshold of adolescence and he did not perceive (the presence of Holy Prophet) until Messenger of Allah ﷺ struck his back with his hands. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Ibn Sayyad, don't you bear witness that I am the messenger of Allah? Ibn Sayyad looked toward him and he said: I bear witness to the fact that you the messenger of the unlettered. Ibn Sayyad said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: Do you bear witness to the fact that I am the messenger of Allah? Messenger of Allah ﷺ rejected this and said: I affirm my faith in Allah and in His messengers. Then Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: What do you see? Ibn Sayyad said: It is a Dukh. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: May you be disgraced and dishonoured, you would not not be able to go beyond your rank. 'Umar b. Khattab said: Messenger of Allah, permit me that I should strike his neck. Thereupon Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: If he is the same (Dajjal) who would appear near the Last Hour, you would not be able to overpower him, and if he is not that there is no good for you to kill him. 'Abdullah b. 'Umar further narrated that after some time Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Ubayy b. Ka'b went towards the palm trees where Ibn Sayyad was. When Messenger of Allah ﷺ went near the tree he hid himself behind a tree with the intention of hearing something from Ibn sayyad before Ibn Sayyad could see him, but Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him on a bed with a blanket around him from which a murmuring sound was being heard and Ibn Sayyad's mother saw Messenger of Allah ﷺ behind the trunk of the palm tree. She said to Ibn Sayyad: Saf (that being his name), here is Muhammad. Thereupon Ibn Sayyad jumped up murmuring and Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: If she had left him alone he would have made things clear. Abdullah b. Umar told that Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up amongst the people and lauded Allah as He deserved, then he made a mention of the Dajjal and said: I warn you of him and there is no Prophet who has not warned his people against the Dajjal. Even Noah warned (against him) but I am going to tell you a thing which no Prophet told his people. You must know that he (the Dajjal) is one-eyed and Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, is not one-eyed. Ibn Shihab said: 'Umar b. Thabit al-Ansari informed me that some of the Companions of Messenger of Allah ﷺ informed him that the day when Messenger of Allah ﷺ warned people against the Dajjal, he also said: There would be written between his two eyes (the word) Kafir (infidel) and everyone who would resent his deeds would be able to read or every Muslim would be about to read, and he also said: Bear this thing in mind that none amongst you would be able to see Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, until he dies.

[AI] He ﷺ said, "A Jewish woman from the city gave birth to a baby boy with a squint in his eye and protruding eyes. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ felt pity, fearing that he might be the Dajjal. He went to find him and found him under a palm tree playing, and his mother called him and said, 'O Abdullah, this is Abu Al-Qasim who has come, so go out to him.' He went out of the palm tree, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, 'What is wrong with her? May Allah have mercy on her! If she had left him, it would have been clear.' Then he asked, 'O son of a hunter, what do you see?' He replied, 'I see truth and falsehood, and I see a throne on water.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'He has been tested.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, 'Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?' He replied, 'Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I believe in Allah and His Messengers,' and he let him go. Then he came to him a second or third time, and with him were Abu Bakr and Umar bin Al-Khattab, among a group of Muhajireen and Ansar, and I was with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ hurried ahead of us, hoping to hear something from his speech and know whether he was the Dajjal or not. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, 'Go away, go away.' Umar bin Al-Khattab said, 'O Messenger of Allah, give me permission to kill him.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'If he is he (the Dajjal), you are not his companion, for his companion will be 'Isa ibn Maryam. If he is not he (the Dajjal), then it is not permissible for you to kill a man from the people of the covenant.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained anxious, fearing that he might be the Dajjal.

[AI] "And I heard Ibn Umar saying that after that, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went with Ubayy ibn Ka'b to the date palm tree that belonged to Ibn Sayyad. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the date palm tree, he shook the trunks of the date palm tree and he loved to hear something from Ibn Sayyad before Ibn Sayyad could see him. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw him lying, on a bed in a Qatifah that had a groaning noise coming from it. The mother of Ibn Sayyad saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ shaking the trunks of the date palm tree and she said to Ibn Sayyad, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'If you leave him.' Ibn Umar said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then ascended the pulpit and praised Allah as He deserves to be praised, and then he mentioned the Dajjal and said, 'I warn you about him. There was no Prophet who did not warn his people about him. Indeed, Noah warned his people about him. But I will tell you something about him that no Prophet told his people: learn that he is one-eyed and that Allah is not one-eyed.'"
