Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Him in Whose Hand my soul is I was about to order for collecting firewood (fuel) and then order Someone to pronounce the Adhan for the prayer and then order someone to lead the prayer then I would go from behind and burn the houses of men who did not present themselves for the (compulsory congregational) prayer. By Him, in Whose Hands my soul is, if anyone of them had known that he would get a bone covered with good meat or two (small) pieces of meat present in between two ribs, he would have turned up for the ʿIsha' prayer.'

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِحَطَبٍ فَيُحْطَبَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَيُؤَذَّنَ لَهَا ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلاً فَيَؤُمَّ النَّاسَ ثُمَّ أُخَالِفَ إِلَى رِجَالٍ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ أَحَدُهُمْ أَنَّهُ يَجِدُ عَرْقًا سَمِينًا أَوْ مِرْمَاتَيْنِ حَسَنَتَيْنِ لَشَهِدَ الْعِشَاءَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "No prayer is heavier upon the hypocrites than the Fajr and the ʿIsha' prayers and if they knew what is in them (in reward), they would have attended them, even if (it was) crawling. Certainly, I felt the urge to order the Mu'adh-dhin (call-maker) so that he would pronounce Iqama, then order a man to lead the people (in prayer), then take a flame of fire so that I burn (the houses) upon those who had not left for the prayer yet."

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لَيْسَ صَلاَةٌ أَثْقَلَ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ مِنَ الْفَجْرِ وَالْعِشَاءِ وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِيهِمَا لأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ الْمُؤَذِّنَ فَيُقِيمَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلاً يَؤُمُّ النَّاسَ ثُمَّ آخُذَ شُعَلاً مِنْ نَارٍ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَى مَنْ لاَ يَخْرُجُ إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ بَعْدُ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "No doubt, I intended to order somebody to pronounce the Iqama of the (compulsory congregational) prayer and then I would go to the houses of those who do not attend the prayer and burn their houses over them."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ أُخَالِفَ إِلَى مَنَازِلِ قَوْمٍ لاَ يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلاَةَ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ found some people absenting from certain prayers and he said: I intend that I order (a) person to lead people in prayer, and then go to the persons who do not join the (congregational prayer) and then order their houses to be burnt by the bundles of fuel. If one amongst them were to know that he would find a fat fleshy bone he would attend the night prayer.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَدَ نَاسًا فِي بَعْضِ الصَّلَوَاتِ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلاً يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أُخَالِفَ إِلَى رِجَالٍ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنْهَا فَآمُرَ بِهِمْ فَيُحَرِّقُوا عَلَيْهِمْ بِحُزَمِ الْحَطَبِ بُيُوتَهُمْ وَلَوْ عَلِمَ أَحَدُهُمْ أَنَّهُ يَجِدُ عَظْمًا سَمِينًا لَشَهِدَهَا يَعْنِي صَلاَةَ الْعِشَاءِ

The most burdensome prayers for the hypocrites are the night prayer and the morning prayer. If they were to know the blessings they have in store, they would have come to them, even though crawling, and I thought that I should order the prayer to be commenced and command a person to lead people in prayer, and I should then go along with some persons having a fagot of fuel with them to the people who have not attended the prayer (in congregation) and would burn their houses with fire.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ أَثْقَلَ صَلاَةٍ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ صَلاَةُ الْعِشَاءِ وَصَلاَةُ الْفَجْرِ وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِيهِمَا لأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا وَلَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلاً فَيُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَنْطَلِقَ مَعِي بِرِجَالٍ مَعَهُمْ حُزَمٌ مِنْ حَطَبٍ إِلَى قَوْمٍ لاَ يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلاَةَ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ بِالنَّارِ

This is what Abu Huraira reported to us from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and (in this connection) he narrated some ahadith, one of them is: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I intend that I should command my young men to gather bundles fuel for me, and then order a person to lead people in prayer, and then burn the houses with their inmates (who have not joined the congregation).

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ أَحَادِيثَ مِنْهَا وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ فِتْيَانِي أَنْ يَسْتَعِدُّوا لِي بِحُزَمٍ مِنْ حَطَبٍ ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلاً يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ تُحَرَّقُ بُيُوتٌ عَلَى مَنْ فِيهَا

I intend that I should command a person to lead people in prayer, and then burn those persons who absent themselves from Jumu'a prayer in their houses.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلاً يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أُحَرِّقَ عَلَى رِجَالٍ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ بُيُوتَهُمْ

Abu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying; I thought to give orders for arranging prayer in congregation, and then to have the Iqamah called for it, then to order a man to lead the people in prayer, then to go off in company of the people who have bundles of firewood to those people who are not present at the prayer and then to burn down their houses with fire.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلاً فَيُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَنْطَلِقَ مَعِي بِرِجَالٍ مَعَهُمْ حُزَمٌ مِنْ حَطَبٍ إِلَى قَوْمٍ لاَ يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلاَةَ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ بِالنَّارِ

the Prophet said: "I was about to order my boys to collect bundles of firewood, then order Salat to be held, then burn (the homes) of the people who did not attend the Salat."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ فِتْيَتِي أَنْ يَجْمَعُوا حُزَمَ الْحَطَبِ ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ أُحَرِّقَ عَلَى أَقْوَامٍ لاَ يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلاَةَ

"By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! I nearly ordered that firewood be gathered to be lit, then I would have ordered that the Adhan be called for prayer, and ordered a man to lead the people in prayer, then I would have gone from behind to those men and burned their houses down over them. By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! If any one of them knew that he would get a meaty bone or some meat in between two ribs, he would attend Isha'.''

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِحَطَبٍ فَيُحْطَبَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَيُؤَذَّنَ لَهَا ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلاً فَيَؤُمَّ النَّاسَ ثُمَّ أُخَالِفَ إِلَى رِجَالٍ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ أَحَدُهُمْ أَنَّهُ يَجِدُ عَظْمًا سَمِينًا أَوْ مَرْمَاتَيْنِ حَسْنَتَيْنِ لَشَهِدَ الْعِشَاءَ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'I was thinking of commanding that the call to prayer be given, then I would tell a man to lead the people in prayer, then I would go out with some other men carrying bundles of wood, and go to people who do not attend the prayer, and burn their houses down around them.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلاً فَيُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَنْطَلِقَ بِرِجَالٍ مَعَهُمْ حُزَمٌ مِنْ حَطَبٍ إِلَى قَوْمٍ لاَ يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلاَةَ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ بِالنَّارِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I had the intention to command my young men to gather firewood, then command a man to lead the people in prayer. After that, I would differ to a group of people who have been lagging behind in performing this prayer. I would then set their homes on fire, even if they were thickened date-palm or al-murr trees. They would definitely come to witness it, and even if they knew what was inside, they would still come, even if they had to crawl."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ فِتْيَانِي فَيَجْمَعُوا حَطَبًا فَآمُرَ رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أُخَالِفَ إِلَى أَقْوَامٍ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنْ هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةِ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ لَوْ كَانَ عَرْقًا سَمِينًا أَوْ مُعَرَّقَيَنِ لَشَهِدُوهُمَا وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِيهِمَا لَأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, I intended to command a man to lead the people in prayer, then command some people who do not pray with us, causing their houses to be burned upon them."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا فَيُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِأُنَاسٍ لَا يُصَلُّونَ مَعَنَا فَتُحَرَّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتُهُمْ

I intend that I should command a person to lead people in prayer, and then burn those persons who absent themselves from Jumu'a prayer in their houses. (Using translation from Muslim 652)

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أُحَرِّقَ عَلَىرِجَالٍ بُيُوتَهُمْ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I had intended to appoint a man to lead the people in prayer, then set fire to the houses of those who do not attend the Friday prayer."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَنْظُرَ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ بُيُوتَهُمْ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الْجُمُعَةَ

[AI] From the Prophet ﷺ said, "Those who neglect the Friday prayer, I had intended to order my young men to gather firewood, then command a man to lead the people and burn the houses of those who do not attend the Friday prayer."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ فِتْيَانِي فَيَحْزِمُوا حَطَبًا ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلًايَؤُمُّ بِالنَّاسِ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ بُيُوتَهُمْ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الْجُمُعَةَ

I intend that I should command a person to lead people in prayer, and then burn those persons who absent themselves from Jumu'a prayer in their houses. (Using translation from Muslim 652)

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لِقَوْمٍ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أُحَرِّقَ عَلَى رِجَالٍيَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنِ الْجُمُعَةِ بُيُوتَهُمْ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I have intended to command a man to establish the prayer, and then command my young boys. Sufyan said once the boys set out towards a people they do not visit, they will burn their homes with bundles of firewood. If one of you finds two healthy bones or two pieces of meat, then he should witness the prayer." Sufyan also said once, "perform the Isha prayer."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا فَيُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ فِتْيَانِي وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً فِتْيَانًا فَيُخَالِفُونَ إِلَى قَوْمٍ لَا يَأْتُونَهَا فَيُحَرِّقُونَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ بِحُزَمِ الْحَطَبِ وَلَوْ عَلِمَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنَّهُ يَجِدُ عَظْمًا سَمِينًا أَوْ مِرْمَاتَيْنِحَسَنَتَيْنِ إِذًا لَشَهِدَ الصَّلَاةَ وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً الْعِشَاءَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "I had intended to order my young companions to gather firewood, then I would command a man to lead the people in prayer. Then I would go and come across some men who neglect the prayer, so I would burn their houses upon them. By Allah, if any one of them knew he had two fat cords or two bunches of dates, he would witness it, and if they knew what was in them, they would come and take them even if they had to crawl."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَفِتْيَانِي فَيَجْمَعُوا حَطَبًا ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلًا يَؤُمُّ النَّاسَ ثُمَّ أُخَالِفُ إِلَى رِجَالٍ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ وَايْمُ اللهِ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ أَحَدُهُمْ أَنَّ لَهُ بِشُهُودِهَا عَرْقًا سَمِينًا أَوْ مِرْمَاتَيْنِ لَشَهِدَهَا وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِيهَا لَأَتَوْهَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The heaviest prayers on the hypocrites are the evening prayer and the dawn prayer. If they knew what is in them, they would certainly come to them, even if they had to crawl. I had the intention to order the mu'adhdhin to pronounce the adhan (call to prayer) and then order a man to lead the people in prayer. Then, I would go with a group of men carrying bundles of firewood to a people who do not attend the prayer, and I would burn their houses down with fire."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَثْقَلُ الصَّلَاةِ عَلَىالْمُنَافِقِينَ صَلَاةُ الْعِشَاءِ وَصَلَاةُ الْفَجْرِ وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِيهِمَا لَأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا وَلَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ الْمُؤَذِّنَ فَيُؤَذِّنَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَنْطَلِقَ مَعِي بِرِجَالٍ مَعَهُمْ حُزُمُ الْحَطَبِ إِلَى قَوْمٍ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ بِالنَّارِ

the Prophet said: "I was about to order my boys to collect bundles of firewood, then order Salat to be held, then burn (the homes) of the people who did not attend the Salat." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 217)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ فِتْيَتِي فَيَجْمَعُوا حُزَمَ الْحَطَبِ ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ أُحَرِّقَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلَاةَ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said: "The heaviest prayers on the hypocrites are the night prayer and the Fajr prayer. If they knew what there is in these prayers, they would attend them even if they had to crawl. If one of you knew that he would find a fat sheep or two good-sized camels, he would come to them. I have thought of ordering the prayer to be established, and then to order a man to lead the people in prayer, and then to take a fire torch and burn down the houses of those who did not attend the prayer." This was narrated by Abu Muawiya and Ibn Numayr, and this is the full text.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ أَثْقَلَ الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ صَلَاةُ الْعِشَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ وَصَلَاةُ الْفَجْرِ وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِيهِمَا لَأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا وَلَوْ عَلِمَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنَّهُ إِذَا وَجَدَ عَرْقًا مِنْ شَاةٍ سَمِينَةٍ أَوْ مِرْمَاتَيْنِ حَسَنَتَيْنِ لَأَتَيْتُمُوهَا أَجْمَعِينَ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ آخُذَ حُزَمًا مِنْ حَطَبٍ فَآتِيَ الَّذِينَ تَخَلَّفُوا عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ وَهَذَا أَتَمُّ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I indeed intended to command for the prayer to be established and then I would take out my young boys with them carrying bundles of firewood, and I would burn it upon a people in their homes who can hear the call to prayer but do not come to pray. Yazid asked, 'Is this on Fridays or other days?' He replied, 'I have never heard Abu Hurairah mention Fridays or other days except for this.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ أَخْرُجَ بِفِتْيَانِي مَعَهُمْ حُزَمُ الْحَطَبِ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ فِي بُيُوتِهِمْ يَسْمَعُونَ النِّدَاءَ ثُمَّ لَا يَأْتُونَ الصَّلَاةَ فَسَأَلَ يَزِيدُ أَفِي الْجُمُعَةِ هَذَا أَمْ فِي غَيْرِهَا؟ قَالَ مَا سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَذْكُرُ جُمُعَةً وَلَا غَيْرَهَا إِلَّا هَكَذَا

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abu'zZinad from al-Araj from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Him in whose hand myself is! I had in mind to order firewood to be collected, then to order the prayer to be called, and to appoint a man to lead the people in prayer, and then to come up behind certain men and burn their houses down about them! By Him in whose hand myself is! If one of them knew that he would find a meaty bone or two good legs of meat, he would be present at isha.''

أنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قالَ: «والَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ، لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أنْ آمُرَ بِحَطَبٍ فَيُحْطَبَ، ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَيُؤْذَنَ لَها، ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلًا فَيَؤُمَّ النّاسَ، ثُمَّ أُخالِفَ إلى رِجالٍ، فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ. والَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ، لَوْ يَعْلَمُ أحَدُهُمْ أنَّهُ يَجِدُ عَظْمًا سَمِينًا، أوْ مَرْماتَيْنِ حَسَنَتَيْنِ لَشَهِدَ العِشاءَ».

"By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! I nearly ordered that firewood be gathered to be lit, then I would have ordered that the Adhan be called for prayer, and ordered a man to lead the people in prayer, then I would have gone from behind to those men and burned their houses down over them. أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِحَطَبٍ فَيُحْطَبَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَيُؤَذَّنَ لَهَا ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلًا فَيَؤُمَّ النَّاسَ ثُمَّ أُخَالِفَ إِلَى رِجَالٍ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ أَحَدُهُمْ أَنَّهُ يَجِدُ عَظْمًا سَمِينًا أَوْ مِرْمَاتَيْنِ حَسَنَتَيْنِ لَشَهِدَ الْعِشَاءَ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said, "I had intended to command a man to lead the people in prayer, and then go to a group of people who neglect it and set fire to them," meaning the two prayers, Isha (night prayer) and Fajr (dawn prayer)."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا يُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ آتِيَ أَقْوَامًا يَخَلَّفُونَ عَنْهَا فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ» يَعْنِي الصَّلَاتَيْنِ الْعِشَاءَ وَالْغَدَاةَ

The most burdensome prayers for the hypocrites are the night prayer and the morning prayer. If they were to know the blessings they have in store, they would have come to them, even though crawling, and I thought that I should order the prayer to be commenced and command a person to lead people in prayer, and I should then go along with some persons having a fagot of fuel with them to the people who have not attended the prayer (in congregation) and would burn their houses with fire. قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ أَثْقَلَ الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ صَلَاةُ الْعِشَاءِ وَصَلَاةُ الْفَجْرِ وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِيهَا لَأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا وَلَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلًا فَيُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَنْطَلِقَ مَعِي بِرِجَالٍ مَعَهُمْ حِزَمُ حَطَبٍ إِلَى قَوْمٍ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلَاةَ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ بِالنَّارِ»

قَالَ قَالَ رَسُول اللهِ ﷺ لقد هممت أن آمر بالصلاة فتقام ثُمَّ أخالف إلى منازل قوم لا يشهدون الصلاة فأحرق عليهم

أَنَّ النَّبِيّ ﷺ قَالَ لهممت أن تقام الصلاة ثُمَّ آمر رجلاً فيصلي بالناس ثُمَّ أخالف إلى أقوام لا يشهدون الصلاة فأحرق عليهم ولو جعل لأحدهم عرق سمين أو مرماتان لشهد

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أنه قال لقد هممت أن آمر رجلا يصلي بالناس ثم أنطلق معي برجال معهم الشمع إلى قوم لا يشهدون الصلاة فأحرق عليهم بيوتهم

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قال إن أثقل الصلاة على المنافين صلاة العشاء وصلاة الفجر ولو يعملون ما فيهما لأتوهما ولو حبوا ولو علم أحدكم إذا أتاها أن يجد عرقا من شاة سمينة أو مرماتين حسنتين لأتيتموها أجمعون ولقد هممت أن آمر بالصلاة فتقام وآمر رجلا يصلي بالقوم ثم آمر بحزم الحطب فأحرق على رجال لم يشهدوا اليوم الصلاة

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قال لقد هممت أن آمر بالصلاة فتقام ثم أخرج بفتيان معهم حزم الحطب فأحرق على قوم دورهم يسمعون النداء ثم لا يأتون الصلاة

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I have considered ordering Bilal to call for prayer and then go to a people who can hear the call but do not respond, and then set fire to their houses."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِلَالًا يُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ ثُمَّ أَنْصَرِفَ إِلَى قَوْمٍ يَسْمَعُونَ النِّدَاءَ فَلَا يُجِيبُونَ فَأَحْرِقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ»

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "By Him in Whose Hand my soul is I was about to order for collecting firewood (fuel) and then order Someone to pronounce the Adhan for the prayer and then order someone to lead the prayer then I would go from behind and burn the houses of men who did not present themselves for the (compulsory congregational) prayer. By Him, in Whose Hands my soul is, if anyone of them had known that he would get a bone covered with good meat or two (small) pieces of meat present in between two ribs, he would have turned up for the ʿIsha' prayer.' [AI] About the Prophet ﷺ who said, "I had intended to order the call for prayer (Adhan) to be made and then command a group of young men to carry bundles of firewood and burn the houses of those who did not attend the prayer even though they could hear the Adhan, but I considered that this might cause hardship for people who were old or sick."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِفِتْيَانٍ مَعَهُمْ حُزَمُ الْحَطَبِ وَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ دُورَهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ النِّدَاءَ ثُمَّ لَا يَأْتُونَ الصَّلَاةَ

Abu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying; I thought to give orders for arranging prayer in congregation, and then to have the Iqamah called for it, then to order a man to lead the people in prayer, then to go off in company of the people who have bundles of firewood to those people who are not present at the prayer and then to burn down their houses with fire. "أثقلُ الصلاة على المنافقين: صلاةُ العِشاءِ، وصلاةُ الفجرِ، ولو يعلمون ما فيهما لأتوهما ولو حبوًا، ولقد هممت أن آمُر بالصلاةِ فتقامَ، ثم آمُرَ رجلًا فَيُصلِّىَ بالناس، ثمَّ أنطلق معى برجال معهم حزمٌ من حطب إلى قومٍ لا يشهدون الصلاة فأَحرِّقَ عليهمِ بيوتهم بالنارِ".

"لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا ليُقِيمَ الصَّلاة، ثُمَّ آمُرَ فتيَانِى فَيُخَالِفُونَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ لَا يَأتُونَهَا فَيُحَرِّقُونَ عَلَيهِمْ بُيُوتَهُم بِحُزَمِ الْحَطَبِ، وَلَوْ عَلمَ أحَدهم أَنَّهُ يَجِدُ عَظْمًا سَمِينًا، أَوْ مِرْمَاتَينِ حَسَنَتَينِ لَشَهِدَ الصَّلاة".

"لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ، ثُمَّ أُحَرِّقَ عَلَى رِجَالِ يَتَخلَّفُونَ عَن الْجُمُعَةِ بُيُوتَهَم".

"لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بلالا فَيُقيمُ الصَّلاةَ، ثم أَنْصَرفَ إِلى قَوْم يَسْمَعُونَ النِّدَاءَ فَلَا يُجِيبُوا فأُحِرَّقُ عَلَيهم بُيُوتَهُم".

"لَقدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ فِتْيَانِى أَنْ يجمعوا حُزمًا مِنْ حَطَبٍ ثُمَّ أَنْطَلِقُ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيهمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ لا يشْهَدُون الجمعةَ".

"وَالَّذِي نَفْسي بِيَدِه لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِحَطَبٍ فَيُحْطَبُ ثم آمُرُ بالصلاةِ فَيؤذنُ لَها، ثم آمُرَ رجلًا فَيَوُّمُ الناس ثم أُخَالِفُ إلى رجالٍ فأُحَرِّقُ عَلَيهِمْ بيوتَهُم، والذي نفسي بيده لو يعلم أحدُهم أنه يَجِدُ عِرْقا سمينًا، أو مرماتين حسنتين لَشهدِ العشاء".
