The Messenger of Allah ﷺ found some people absenting from certain prayers and he said: I intend that I order (a) person to lead people in prayer, and then go to the persons who do not join the (congregational prayer) and then order their houses to be burnt by the bundles of fuel. If one amongst them were to know that he would find a fat fleshy bone he would attend the night prayer.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقَدَ نَاسًا فِي بَعْضِ الصَّلَوَاتِ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلاً يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أُخَالِفَ إِلَى رِجَالٍ يَتَخَلَّفُونَ عَنْهَا فَآمُرَ بِهِمْ فَيُحَرِّقُوا عَلَيْهِمْ بِحُزَمِ الْحَطَبِ بُيُوتَهُمْ وَلَوْ عَلِمَ أَحَدُهُمْ أَنَّهُ يَجِدُ عَظْمًا سَمِينًا لَشَهِدَهَا يَعْنِي صَلاَةَ الْعِشَاءِ

The most burdensome prayers for the hypocrites are the night prayer and the morning prayer. If they were to know the blessings they have in store, they would have come to them, even though crawling, and I thought that I should order the prayer to be commenced and command a person to lead people in prayer, and I should then go along with some persons having a fagot of fuel with them to the people who have not attended the prayer (in congregation) and would burn their houses with fire.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ أَثْقَلَ صَلاَةٍ عَلَى الْمُنَافِقِينَ صَلاَةُ الْعِشَاءِ وَصَلاَةُ الْفَجْرِ وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِيهِمَا لأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا وَلَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلاً فَيُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَنْطَلِقَ مَعِي بِرِجَالٍ مَعَهُمْ حُزَمٌ مِنْ حَطَبٍ إِلَى قَوْمٍ لاَ يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلاَةَ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ بِالنَّارِ

Abu Hurairah reported the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying; I thought to give orders for arranging prayer in congregation, and then to have the Iqamah called for it, then to order a man to lead the people in prayer, then to go off in company of the people who have bundles of firewood to those people who are not present at the prayer and then to burn down their houses with fire.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلاً فَيُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَنْطَلِقَ مَعِي بِرِجَالٍ مَعَهُمْ حُزَمٌ مِنْ حَطَبٍ إِلَى قَوْمٍ لاَ يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلاَةَ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ بِالنَّارِ

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'I was thinking of commanding that the call to prayer be given, then I would tell a man to lead the people in prayer, then I would go out with some other men carrying bundles of wood, and go to people who do not attend the prayer, and burn their houses down around them.'"

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ بِالصَّلاَةِ فَتُقَامَ ثُمَّ آمُرَ رَجُلاً فَيُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَنْطَلِقَ بِرِجَالٍ مَعَهُمْ حُزَمٌ مِنْ حَطَبٍ إِلَى قَوْمٍ لاَ يَشْهَدُونَ الصَّلاَةَ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتَهُمْ بِالنَّارِ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I had intended to appoint a man to lead the people in prayer, then set fire to the houses of those who do not attend the Friday prayer."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ أَنْظُرَ فَأُحَرِّقَ عَلَى قَوْمٍ بُيُوتَهُمْ لَا يَشْهَدُونَ الْجُمُعَةَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, I intended to command a man to lead the people in prayer, then command some people who do not pray with us, causing their houses to be burned upon them."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ آمُرَ رَجُلًا فَيُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ ثُمَّ آمُرَ بِأُنَاسٍ لَا يُصَلُّونَ مَعَنَا فَتُحَرَّقَ عَلَيْهِمْ بُيُوتُهُمْ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The heaviest prayers on the hypocrites are the evening prayer and the dawn prayer. If they knew what is in them, they would certainly come to them, even if they had to crawl. I had the intention to order the mu'adhdhin to pronounce the adhan (call to prayer) and then order a man to lead the people in prayer. Then, I would go with a group of men carrying bundles of firewood to a people who do not attend the prayer, and I would burn their houses down with fire."

اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم لقد هممت أن آمر بالصلاة فتقام ثُمَّ أخالف إلى منازل قوم لا يشهدون الصلاة فأحرق عليهم

اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم قَالَ لهممت أن تقام الصلاة ثُمَّ آمر رجلاً فيصلي بالناس ثُمَّ أخالف إلى أقوام لا يشهدون الصلاة فأحرق عليهم ولو جعل لأحدهم عرق سمين أو مرماتان لشهد

يحيى بن عيسى الكوفي قال حدثني عمي عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أنه قال لقد هممت أن آمر رجلا يصلي بالناس ثم أنطلق معي برجال معهم الشمع إلى قوم لا يشهدون الصلاة فأحرق عليهم بيوتهم

اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قال لقد هممت أن آمر بالصلاة فتقام ثم أخرج بفتيان معهم حزم الحطب فأحرق على قوم دورهم يسمعون النداء ثم لا يأتون الصلاة

"أثقلُ الصلاة على المنافقين: صلاةُ العِشاءِ، وصلاةُ الفجرِ، ولو يعلمون ما فيهما لأتوهما ولو حبوًا، ولقد هممت أن آمُر بالصلاةِ فتقامَ، ثم آمُرَ رجلًا فَيُصلِّىَ بالناس، ثمَّ أنطلق معى برجال معهم حزمٌ من حطب إلى قومٍ لا يشهدون الصلاة فأَحرِّقَ عليهمِ بيوتهم بالنارِ".
