The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the 'Asr prayer and gave salutation after two rak'ahs. Dhu'l-Yadain (the possessor of long arms) stood up and said: Messenger of Allah, has the prayer been shortened or have you forgotten? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Nothing like this has happened (neither the prayer has been shortened nor have I forgotten). He (Dhu'l-Yadain) said: Messenger of Allah, something has definitely happened. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned towards people and said: Is Dhu'l-Yadain true (in his assertion)? They said: Messenger of Allah, he is true. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ completed the rest of the prayer. and then performed two prostrations while he was sitting after salutation.

أَنَّهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ صَلَّى لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةَ الْعَصْرِ فَسَلَّمَ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَامَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالَ أَقُصِرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَمْ نَسِيتَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَكُنْ فَقَالَ قَدْ كَانَ بَعْضُ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَأَتَمَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ بَعْدَ التَّسْلِيمِ

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in praying 'Asr, and he said the salam after two rak'ahs. Dhul-Yadain stood up and said: 'Has the prayer been shortened, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ or did you forget?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Neither.' He said: 'One of them happened, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to the people and said: 'Is Dhul-Yadain speaking the truth?' They said: 'Yes.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ completed what was left of the prayer, then he prostrated twice when he was sitting after the taslim."

أَنَّهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةَ الْعَصْرِ فَسَلَّمَ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَامَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالَ أَقُصِرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَمْ نَسِيتَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَكُنْ فَقَالَ قَدْ كَانَ بَعْضُ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالُوا نَعَمْ فَأَتَمَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ بَعْدَ التَّسْلِيمِ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Da'ud ibn al-Husayn that Abu Sufyan, the mawla of Ibn Abi Ahmad, said that he heard Abu Hurayra say, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed asr and said the taslim after two rakas. Dhu'l-Yadayn stood up and said, 'Has the prayer been shortened, Messenger of Allah, or have you forgotten?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and completed what remained of the prayer, and then, remaining sitting after saying the taslim, he made two prostrations."

يَقُولُ صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلاَةَ الْعَصْرِ فَسَلَّمَ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَامَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالَ أَقَصُرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَمْ نَسِيتَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ كُلُّ ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَكُنْ فَقَالَ قَدْ كَانَ بَعْضُ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالُوا نَعَمْ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَتَمَّ مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ التَّسْلِيمِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab that Abu Bakr ibn Sulayman ibn Abi Hathma said, "I have heard that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed two rakas of one of the two day-ti me prayers, dhuhr or asr, and said the taslim after two rakas. Dhu'sh-Shamalayn said to him, 'Has the prayer been shortened, Messenger of Allah, or have you forgotten?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The prayer has not been shortened and I have not forgotten.' Dhu'shShamalayn said, 'It was certainly one of those, Messenger of Allah.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ approached the people and said, 'Has Dh u'sh-Shamalayn spoken the truth?' They said, 'Yes, Messenger of Allah,' and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ completed what remained of the prayer, and then said, 'Peace be upon you.' "

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ مِنْ إِحْدَى صَلاَتَىِ النَّهَارِ الظُّهْرِ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ فَسَلَّمَ مِنَ اثْنَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ لَهُ ذُو الشِّمَالَيْنِ أَقَصُرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَمْ نَسِيتَ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا قَصُرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ وَمَا نَسِيتُ فَقَالَ ذُو الشِّمَالَيْنِ قَدْ كَانَ بَعْضُ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَأَتَمَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الصَّلاَةِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the Dhuhr or Asr prayer, and then he performed the tasleem after two units of one of them. Zul-Shimalayn ibn 'Abd Amr ibn Nadlah al-Khuzai, who was an ally of the Banu Zuhrah and shorter than others, said to him, "Did you shorten the prayer, O Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "I did not forget nor did I shorten." Then Zul-Shimalayn said, "Some of us saw you doing so, O Messenger of Allah." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to the people and said, "Who do you believe, the one with two hands?" They replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and completed the prayer, and no one among them informed me that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed two prostrations while sitting in that prayer. And this is what is witnessed, and Allah knows best, as people were content with the certainty of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until they were certain.

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الظُّهْرِ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ فَسَلَّمَ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ مِنْ إِحْدَاهُمَا فَقَالَ لَهُ ذُو الشِّمَالَيْنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ عَمْرِو بْنِ نَضْلَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ وَهُوَ حَلِيفُ بَنِي زُهْرَةَ أَقُصِرَتْ أَمْ نَسِيتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَمْ أَنْسَ وَلَمْ تُقْصَرْ» فَقَالَ ذُو الشِّمَالَيْنِ قَدْ كَانَ بَعْضُ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ «أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَتَمَّ الصَّلَاةَ وَلَمْ يُحَدِّثْنِي أَحَدٌ مِنْهُمْ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي تِلْكَ الصَّلَاةِ وَذَلِكَ فِيمَا يُرَى وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنَّ النَّاسَ يَقَّنُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ حَتَّى اسْتَيْقَنَ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed the Dhuhr or Asr prayer for us and then performed the greeting (salam) in two units (rak'ahs) of one of them. So, Zul-Shimalain bin 'Abd Amr bin Nadlah al-Khuzai, an ally of Banu Zahrah, asked him, "Did the prayer become shortened or did you forget, O Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I did not forget nor did I shorten it." So, Zul-Shimalain said, "Some of it was done like that, O Messenger of Allah." Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to the people and said, "Zul-Yadayn (meaning Zul-Shimalain) has spoken the truth." They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and completed the prayer.

صَلَّى لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ فَسَلَّمَ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ مِنْ أَحَدِهِمَا فَقَالَ لَهُ ذُو الشِّمَالَيْنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ عَمْرِو بْنِ نَضْلَةَ الْخُزَاعِيُّ حَلِيفُ بَنِي زُهْرَةَ أَقُصِرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَمْ أَنَسَ وَلَمْ تُقْصَرْ» فَقَالَ ذُو الشِّمَالَيْنِ كَانَ بَعْضُ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى النَّاسِ وَقَالَ «أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ» قَالُوا نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَتَمَّ الصَّلَاةَ

"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Zuhr or 'Asr and said the taslim following two rak'ahs and left. Dhul-Shimalain bin 'Amr said to him: 'Has the prayer been shortened or did you forget?" The Prophet ﷺ said: 'What is Dhul-Yadain saying?' They said: 'He is speaking the truth, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' So he led them in praying the two rak'ahs that he missed." صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم الظهر أو العصر فسلم في الركعتين فقال له ذو الشمالين ابن عُمَر بن نضلة الخزاعي وهُو حليف بني زهرة أقصرت الصلاة أم نسيت يا رَسولَ اللهِ قال لم أنسى ولم تقصر فقال ذو الشمالين قد كان بعض ذلك يا رسول الله فأقبل رسول الله على الناس فقال أصدق ذو الشمالين قالوا نعم يا رَسولَ اللهِ فقام رسول الله فأتم الصلاة وسجد سجدتين وهُو جالسوهذا الحديث لا نعلَمُ أحَدًا جمع هؤلاء الجماعة فيه عَن الزُّهْرِيّ إلاَّ يُونُسوقد رَواه الأَوزَاعِيّ عَن الزُّهْرِيّ عن ثلاثة من هؤلاء عَن أبي هُرَيرة

"صَلَّى رسولُ الله ﷺ صَلَاةَ العَصْرِ فَسَلَّم مِنْ ركْعَتَين، فَقَامَ ذُو اليَدَينِ فَقَالَ: أَقَصَرتِ الصَّلاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ؟ فقالَ النبيُّ ﷺ كَلُّ ذَلِكَ لَمْ يَكُنْ، قَالَ: قَدْ

كَانَ بعضُ ذَلِكَ يَا رَسُولَ الله! فَأَقْبَلَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ: صَدَقَ (*) ذَو الْيَدَيْنِ؟ فَقَالُواْ: نَعَمْ، فَأَتَمَّ النبىُّ ﷺ مَا بَقِىَ مِن الصَّلَاةِ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَينِ وَهُوَ جَالسٌ بَعْدَ التَّسْلِيمِ".
