On the day of the Conquest of Mecca, when the Prophet ﷺ had given (from the booty) the Quraish, the Ansar said, "By Allah, this is indeed very strange: While our swords are still dribbling with the blood of Quraish, our war booty are distributed amongst them." When this news reached the Prophet ﷺ he called the Ansar and said, "What is this news that has reached me from you?" They used not to tell lies, so they replied, "What has reached you is true." He said, "Doesn't it please you that the people take the booty to their homes and you take Messenger of Allah ﷺ to your homes? If the Ansar took their way through a valley or a mountain pass, I would take the Ansar's valley or a mountain pass."

قَالَتِ الأَنْصَارُ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ وَأَعْطَى قُرَيْشًا وَاللَّهِ إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ الْعَجَبُ إِنَّ سُيُوفَنَا تَقْطُرُ مِنْ دِمَاءِ قُرَيْشٍ وَغَنَائِمُنَا تُرَدُّ عَلَيْهِمْ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَدَعَا الأَنْصَارَ قَالَ فَقَالَ مَا الَّذِي بَلَغَنِي عَنْكُمْ وَكَانُوا لاَ يَكْذِبُونَ فَقَالُوا هُوَ الَّذِي بَلَغَكَ قَالَ أَوَلاَ تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ النَّاسُ بِالْغَنَائِمِ إِلَى بُيُوتِهِمْ وَتَرْجِعُونَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى بُيُوتِكُمْ لَوْ سَلَكَتِ الأَنْصَارُ وَادِيًا أَوْ شِعْبًا لَسَلَكْتُ وَادِيَ الأَنْصَارِ أَوْ شِعْبَهُمْ

The Prophet ﷺ gathered some people of Ansar and said, "The People of Quraish are still close to their Pre-lslamic period of ignorance and have suffered a lot, and I want to help them and attract their hearts (by giving them the war booty). Won't you be pleased that the people take the worldly things) and you take Messenger of Allah ﷺ with you to your homes?" They said, "Yes, (i.e. we are pleased with this distribution)." The Prophet ﷺ said, "'If the people took their way through a valley and the Ansar took their way through a mountain pass, then I would take the Ansar's valley or the Ansar's mountain pass."

جَمَعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ نَاسًا مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ وَمُصِيبَةٍ وَإِنِّي أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَجْبُرَهُمْ وَأَتَأَلَّفَهُمْ أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ النَّاسُ بِالدُّنْيَا وَتَرْجِعُونَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى بُيُوتِكُمْ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالَ لَوْ سَلَكَ النَّاسُ وَادِيًا وَسَلَكَتِ الأَنْصَارُ شِعْبًا لَسَلَكْتُ وَادِيَ الأَنْصَارِ أَوْ شِعْبَ الأَنْصَارِ

Is there someone alien among you? They said: No, but only the son of our sister. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: The son of the sister of the people is included among the tribe, and (farther) said: The Quraish have recently abandoned Jahillyya and have just been delivered from distress; I, therefore, intend to help them and conciliate them. Don't you feel happy that the people should return with worldly riches and you return with the Messenger of Allah to your houses? (So far as my love for you is concerned I should say) if the people were to tread a valley and the Ansar tread a narraw path (in a mountain) I would tread the narrow path of the Ansar.

جَمَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الأَنْصَارَ فَقَالَ أَفِيكُمْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ غَيْرِكُمْ فَقَالُوا لاَ إِلاَّ ابْنُ أُخْتٍ لَنَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ ابْنَ أُخْتِ الْقَوْمِ مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ إِنَّ قُرَيْشًا حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ وَمُصِيبَةٍ وَإِنِّي أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَجْبُرَهُمْ وَأَتَأَلَّفَهُمْ أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ النَّاسُ بِالدُّنْيَا وَتَرْجِعُونَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ إِلَى بُيُوتِكُمْ لَوْ سَلَكَ النَّاسُ وَادِيًا وَسَلَكَ الأَنْصَارُ شِعْبًا لَسَلَكْتُ شِعْبَ الأَنْصَارِ

that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered a group of people from the Ansar and said: "Come, is there anyone among you who is from other than you?" They said: "No, except the son of a sister of ours." So he said: "The son of the sister of a people is from them." Then he said: "Indeed the Quraish is not far from their time of ignorance and affliction, and I wished that I subdue them and coax them. Are you not happy that the people return with this world and you return to your homes with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?" They said: "Of course we are." So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "If the people were to pass through a valley or a path, and the Ansar passed through a valley or a path then I would pass through the valley or path of the Ansar."

The Prophet ﷺ sent for the Ansar (and when they came), he asked, 'Is there any stranger amongst you?" They said, "No except the son of our sister." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The son of the sister of some people belongs to them." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3528)

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ gave from the spoils of Hunayn to Uyaynah, Al-Aqra', and others, so the Ansar said, "Will he give away our spoils, while our swords are still dripping with their blood or their blood is still dripping from our swords?" When the Prophet ﷺ learned of this, he called the Ansar and said, "O people of the Ansar, would you not be pleased if the people took worldly possessions and you took Muhammad to your homes?" They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, if the people were to go down one valley and the Ansar were to go down another, I would go down the valley of the Ansar. The Ansar are my support and my refuge. If it were not for the migration, I would have been from the Ansar."

أَعْطَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مِنْ غَنَائِمِ حُنَيْنٍ عُيَيْنَةَ وَالْأَقْرَعَ وَغَيْرَهُمَا فَقَالَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ أَيُعْطِي غَنَائِمَنَا مَنْ تَقْطُرُ سُيُوفُنَا مِنْ دِمَائِهِمْ أَوْ تَقْطُرُ دِمَاؤُهُمْ مِنْ سُيُوفِنَا فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَدَعَا الْأَنْصَارَ فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ يَذْهَبَ النَّاسُ بِالدُّنْيَا وَتَذْهَبُونَ بِمُحَمَّدٍ إِلَى دِيَارِكُمْ؟ قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَوْ سَلَكَ النَّاسُ وَادِيًا وَسَلَكَتْ الْأَنْصَارُ شِعْبًا لَسَلَكْتُ شِعْبَ الْأَنْصَارِ الْأَنْصَارُ كَرِشِي وَعَيْبَتِي وَلَوْلَا الْهِجْرَةُ لَكُنْتُ امْرَأً مِنَالْأَنْصَارِ

[AI] The Ansar said, "By Allah, this is strange! Indeed, our swords are dripping with the blood of the Quraysh, and our spoils are divided among them." When the Prophet ﷺ heard about this, he specifically sent a message to the Ansar and asked, "What is this news that we have heard about you?" They replied, "It is the truth that has reached you." He then said, "Do you not want the people to take the spoils while you return with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to your homes? If the people were to take a valley or a path, I would take the path of the Ansar." This hadith was narrated by Abu Abdullah, and in the narration of Abu al-Hasan, it was mentioned during the Battle of Hunayn. The rest is similar in meaning.

قَالَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ وَاللهِ إِنَّ هَذَا هُوَ الْعَجَبُ إِنَّ سُيُوفَنَا تَقْطُرُ مِنْ دِمَاءِ قُرَيْشٍ وَإِنَّ غَنَائِمَنَا تُقْسَمُ بَيْنَهُمْ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَبَعَثَ إِلَى الْأَنْصَارِ خَاصَّةً فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا الَّذِي بَلَغَنَا عَنْكُمْ؟ وَكَانُوا لَا يَكْذِبُونَ فَقَالُوا هُوَ الَّذِي بَلَغَكَ فَقَالَ أَمَا تَرْضَوْنَ أَنْ يَذْهَبَ النَّاسُ بِالْغَنَائِمِ وَتَذْهَبُوا بِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى بُيُوتِكُمْ؟ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَوْ سَلَكَ النَّاسُ وَادِيًا أَوْ شِعْبًا سَلَكْتُ وَادِيَ الْأَنْصَارِ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ حُنَيْنٍ وَالْبَاقِي بِمَعْنَاهُ

"إِنَّ قريشًا حديث عهد بِجَاهِلِيَّةٍ ومصيبَة، وإِنِّى أردت أن أجْبُرَهُمْ وَأتَألفَهُمْ أما تَرْضَونَ أنْ يَرْجعَ النَّاسُ بالدنيا وترجعونَ برسولِ اللَّهِ إِلى بيوتكم، لو سَلَكَ النَّاسُ وادِيًا أوْ شعبًا لسلكتُ وادى الأنصار وَشِعْبَهُمْ".
