A woman from Juhaynah came to the Prophet ﷺ while she was pregnant after having illegal sexual relations. She said: O Prophet of Allah ﷺ, I've crossed boundaries ˹with a sin˺, so lift it from me (i.e. punish me for it). The Prophet of Allahﷺ called her guardian and said: Treat her well, and when she delivers bring her to me. He did accordingly.

Then the Prophet of Allah ﷺ pronounced judgment on her and her clothes were tied around her and then he commanded and she was stoned ˹to death˺. He then prayed over her ˹dead body˺. Thereupon Umar said to him: O Prophet of Allah, you offer prayer for her, whereas she had committed adultery? Thereupon he said: "She has made such a repentance that if it were to be divided among seventy men of Madinah, it would be enough. Have you found any repentance better than this that she sacrificed her life for Allah ﷻ?"  

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ أَتَتْ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهِيَ حُبْلَى مِنَ الزِّنَى فَقَالَتْ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَىَّ۔ فَدَعَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَلِيَّهَا فَقَالَ: «أَحْسِنْ إِلَيْهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ فَائْتِنِي بِهَ۔» فَفَعَلَ۔

فَأَمَرَ بِهَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَشُكَّتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابُهَا ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَرُجِمَتْ۔ ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ تُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ وَقَدْ زَنَتْ؟ فَقَالَ: «لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً، لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ سَبْعِينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ تَوْبَةً أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى؟»  

a woman from Juhainah came to the Messenger of Allah sand said: "I have committed Zina." And she was committed Zina." And She was pregnant. He handed her over to her guardian and said: "Look after her, and when she gave birth, he brought her to him. He ordered that her garment be wrapped around her, then he offered the funeral prayer for her. 'Umar said to him: "Are you praying for her even though she committed Zina?" he said: "She has repented in a manner that, if it were to be shared among seventy of the people of Al-Madinah it would suffice them. Have you ever seen repentance better than the one who sacrificed herself for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime?"

A woman belonging to the tribe of Juhaynah (according to the version of Aban) came to the Prophet ﷺ and said that she had committed fornication and that she was pregnant. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called her guardian. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: Be good to her, and when she bears a child, bring her (to me). When she gave birth to the child, he brought her (to him). The Prophet ﷺ gave orders regarding her, and her clothes were tied to her. He then commanded regarding her and she was stoned to death. He commanded the people (to pray) and they prayed over her. Thereupon Umar said: Are you praying over her, Messenger of Allah, when she has committed fornication? He said: By Him in Whose hand my soul is, she has repented to such an extent that if it were divided among the seventy people of Medina, it would have been enough for them all. And what do you find better than the fact that she gave her life. Aban did not say in his version: Then her clothes were tied to her.  

فِي حَدِيثِ أَبَانَ مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّهَا زَنَتْ وَهِيَ حُبْلَى فَدَعَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَلِيًّا لَهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَحْسِنْ إِلَيْهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ فَجِئْ بِهَا فَلَمَّا أَنْ وَضَعَتْ جَاءَ بِهَا فَأَمَرَ بِهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَشُكَّتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابُهَا ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَرُجِمَتْ ثُمَّ أَمَرَهُمْ فَصَلَّوْا عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا وَقَدْ زَنَتْ قَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِّمَتْ بَيْنَ سَبْعِينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لَمْ يَقُلْ عَنْ أَبَانَ فَشُكَّتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابُهَا  

"A woman from Juhainah confessed before the Prophet ﷺ that she had committed adultery, and she said: 'I am pregnant.' So the Prophet ﷺ called for her guardian and said: 'Be good to her and if she gives birth to her child then tell me.' So he did so, and then he ﷺ gave the order that her clothes be bound tightly around her. Then he ordered her to be stoned and she was stoned. Then he performed (funeral) Salat for her. So 'Umar bin Al-Khattab said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah! You stoned her then you prayed for her?!' Allah's Apostle, I have done something for which (prescribed punishment) must be imposed upon me, so impose that. Allah's Apostle ﷺ called her master and said: Treat her well, and when she delivers bring her to me. He did accordingly. Then Allah's Apostle ﷺ pronounced judgment about her and her clothes were tied around her and then he commanded and she was stoned to death. He then prayed over her (dead body). Thereupon Umar said to him: Allah's Apostle, you offer prayer for her, whereas she had committed adultery! Thereupon he said: She has made such a repentance that if it were to be divided among seventy men of Medina, it would be enough. [Machine] A woman from Juhaynah confessed to the Prophet ﷺ about committing adultery, and she said, "I am pregnant." So the Prophet ﷺ called her guardian and said, "Treat her kindly and when she gives birth, inform me." So he did that and the Prophet ﷺ commanded for her to be separated from her clothes, then he commanded for her to be stoned, and then he prayed for her. 'Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah, should you have stoned her and then prayed for her?" He said, "Indeed, she has repented with such a sincere repentance that if it were to be divided among the people of Madinah, it would suffice them. Have you found anyone better than her, who would give herself up for the sake of Allah?"

Afterward, he prayed for her and Umar ibn Al-Khattab said, "You pray for her, even though she committed adultery?" He said, "She has repented in such a way that if it were to be divided among the people of Madinah, it would suffice them all. Have you found any better than a person who gives herself to Allah?"  

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ أَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَهِيَ حُبْلَى مِنْ زِنًا فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ ذَنْبًا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَلِيَّهَا فَقَالَ «أَحْسِنْ إِلَيْهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ مَا فِي بَطْنِهَا فَائْتِنِي بِهَا» فَفَعَلَ فَأَمَرَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَشُدَّتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابُهَا ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَرُجِمَتْ ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ تُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا وَقَدْ زَنَتْ؟ فَقَالَ «لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ تِسْعِينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَسِعَتْهُمْ هَلْ وَجَدْتَ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لِلَّهِ ﷻ»  

[Machine] That a woman from Juhaynah committed adultery and she came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while pregnant from the adultery. She said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have committed a sin, so impose the punishment on me." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called her guardian and said, "Treat her kindly until she delivers what is in her womb, then bring her to me." So he did that, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded that her clothes be held tightly against her, then he ordered that she be stoned. After that, he prayed for her and Umar said to him, "You are praying for her and she has committed adultery?" He said, "She has repented with a repentance that if it were to be divided among seventy of the people of Madinah, it would suffice them. Have you found any better than a person who gives herself completely to Allah?"  

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ زَنَتْ فَأَتَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ حَمَلَتْ مِنَ الزِّنَا فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي قَدْ أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَلِيَّهَا فَقَالَ «أَحْسِنْ إِلَيْهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ مَا فِي بَطْنِهَا فَائْتِنِي بِهَا» فَفَعَلَ فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَأُمْسِكَتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابُهَا ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَرُجِمَتْ ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ «تُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا وَقَدْ زَنَتْ؟» فَقَالَ «لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ سَبْعِينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَسِعَتْهُمْ وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لِلَّهِ ﷻ»  

a woman from Juhainah came to the Messenger of Allah sand said: "I have committed Zina." And she was committed Zina." And She was pregnant. He handed her over to her guardian and said: "Look after her, and when she gave birth, he brought her to him. He ordered that her garment be wrapped around her, then he offered the funeral prayer for her. 'Umar said to him: "Are you praying for her even though she committed Zina?" he said: "She has repented in a manner that, if it were to be shared among seventy of the people of Al-Madinah it would suffice them. Have you ever seen repentance better than the one who sacrificed herself for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime?" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1957)

A woman belonging to the tribe of Juhaynah (according to the version of Aban) came to the Prophet ﷺ and said that she had committed fornication and that she was pregnant. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called her guardian. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: Be good to her, and when she bears a child, bring her (to me). When she gave birth to the child, he brought her (to him). The Prophet ﷺ gave orders regarding her, and her clothes were tied to her. He then commanded regarding her and she was stoned to death. He commanded the people (to pray) and they prayed over her. Thereupon Umar said: Are you praying over her, Messenger of Allah, when she has committed fornication? He said: By Him in Whose hand my soul is, she has repented to such an extent that if it were divided among the seventy people of Medina, it would have been enough for them all. And what do you find better than the fact that she gave her life. Aban did not say in his version: Then her clothes were tied to her. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4440)

[Machine] A woman from Juhaynah came to the Prophet ﷺ while she was pregnant from adultery. The Prophet ﷺ ordered her guardian to treat her kindly. When she delivered her baby, she was brought to the Prophet ﷺ and her clothes were tied around her. Then he ordered that she be stoned. Afterward, he prayed over her. Umar said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, do you pray over her even though she committed adultery?" He replied, "She had repented with such a repentance that if it were distributed among the people of Medina, it would have sufficed them all. Have you found anything better than she sacrificed her life for?”

"عَنْ عمرانَ بن حُصَيْن أَنَّ امْرأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ اعْتَرَفَتْ عِنْدَ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ بِالزَّنَا قَالَتْ: أَنَا حُبْلَى، فَدَعَا النَّبِىُّ ﷺ وَلِيَّهَا فَقَالَ: أَحْسِن إِلَيْهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ فَأَخْبِرْنِى فَفَعَلَ، فَأَمرَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ فَشُكَّتَ عَلَيْها ثِيَابُهَا، ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَرُجِمَتْ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ الله: رَجمْتَهَا ثُمَّ تُصَلِّى عَلَيْهَا؟ قَالَ: لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِّمَتْ بَيْنَ سَبْعِينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَسِعْتهُم، وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ شَيْئًا أَفْضَل مِنْ أنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لله".
