A woman from Juhaynah came to the Prophet ﷺ while she was pregnant after having illegal sexual relations. She said: O Prophet of Allah ﷺ, I've crossed boundaries ˹with a sin˺, so lift it from me (i.e. punish me for it). The Prophet of Allahﷺ called her guardian and said: Treat her well, and when she delivers bring her to me. He did accordingly.

Then the Prophet of Allah ﷺ pronounced judgment on her and her clothes were tied around her and then he commanded and she was stoned ˹to death˺. He then prayed over her ˹dead body˺. Thereupon Umar said to him: O Prophet of Allah, you offer prayer for her, whereas she had committed adultery? Thereupon he said: "She has made such a repentance that if it were to be divided among seventy men of Madinah, it would be enough. Have you found any repentance better than this that she sacrificed her life for Allah ﷻ?"  

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ أَتَتْ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهِيَ حُبْلَى مِنَ الزِّنَى فَقَالَتْ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَىَّ۔ فَدَعَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَلِيَّهَا فَقَالَ: «أَحْسِنْ إِلَيْهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ فَائْتِنِي بِهَ۔» فَفَعَلَ۔

فَأَمَرَ بِهَا نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَشُكَّتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابُهَا ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَرُجِمَتْ۔ ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ تُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ وَقَدْ زَنَتْ؟ فَقَالَ: «لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً، لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ سَبْعِينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ تَوْبَةً أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى؟»  

a woman from Juhainah came to the Messenger of Allah sand said: "I have committed Zina." And she was committed Zina." And She was pregnant. He handed her over to her guardian and said: "Look after her, and when she gave birth, he brought her to him. He ordered that her garment be wrapped around her, then he offered the funeral prayer for her. 'Umar said to him: "Are you praying for her even though she committed Zina?" he said: "She has repented in a manner that, if it were to be shared among seventy of the people of Al-Madinah it would suffice them. Have you ever seen repentance better than the one who sacrificed herself for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime?"

A woman belonging to the tribe of Juhaynah (according to the version of Aban) came to the Prophet ﷺ and said that she had committed fornication and that she was pregnant. He commanded the people (to pray) and they prayed over her. Thereupon Umar said: Are you praying over her, Messenger of Allah, when she has committed fornication? He said: By Him in Whose hand my soul is, she has repented to such an extent that if it were divided among the seventy people of Medina, it would have been enough for them all. And what do you find better than the fact that she gave her life. Aban did not say in his version: Then her clothes were tied to her.

"A woman from Juhainah confessed before the Prophet ﷺ that she had committed adultery, and she said: 'I am pregnant.' So the Prophet ﷺ called for her guardian and said: 'Be good to her and if she gives birth to her child then tell me.' So he did so, and then he ﷺ gave the order that her clothes be bound tightly around her. Then he ordered her to be stoned and she was stoned. Then he performed (funeral) Salat for her. So 'Umar bin Al-Khattab said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah! You stoned her then you prayed for her?!' Allah's Apostle, I have done something for which (prescribed punishment) must be imposed upon me, so impose that. Allah's Apostle ﷺ called her master and said: Treat her well, and when she delivers bring her to me. He did accordingly. Then Allah's Apostle ﷺ pronounced judgment about her and her clothes were tied around her and then he commanded and she was stoned to death. He then prayed over her (dead body). Thereupon Umar said to him: Allah's Apostle, you offer prayer for her, whereas she had committed adultery! Thereupon he said: She has made such a repentance that if it were to be divided among seventy men of Medina, it would be enough. أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ أَتَتْ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ إِنِّي زَنَيْتُ وَهِيَ حُبْلَى فَدَفَعَهَا إِلَى وَلِيِّهَا فَقَالَ أَحْسِنْ إِلَيْهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ فَأْتِنِي بِهَا فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتْ جَاءَ بِهَا «فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَشُكَّتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابُهَا ثُمَّ رَجَمَهَا ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا» فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ تُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا وَقَدْ زَنَتْ قَالَ لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ سَبْعِينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لِلَّهِ  

Allah's Apostle, I have done something for which (prescribed punishment) must be imposed upon me, so impose that. Allah's Apostle ﷺ called her master and said: Treat her well, and when she delivers bring her to me. He did accordingly. Then Allah's Apostle ﷺ pronounced judgment about her and her clothes were tied around her and then he commanded and she was stoned to death. He then prayed over her (dead body). Thereupon Umar said to him: Allah's Apostle, you offer prayer for her, whereas she had committed adultery! Thereupon he said: She has made such a repentance that if it were to be divided among seventy men of Medina, it would be enough. Have you found any repentance better than this that she sacr ficed her life for Allah, the Majestic? (Using translation from Muslim 1696a)   

أَقْبَلَتِ امْرَأَةٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ حَدًّا فَأَقِمْهُ عَلَيَّ فَدَعَا وَلِيَّهَا فَقَالَ أَحْسِنْ إِلَى هَذِهِ حَتَّى تَضَعَ مَا فِي بَطْنِهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ مَا فِي بَطْنِهَا فَائْتِ بِهَا فَلَمَّا وَضَعَتْ مَا فِي بَطْنِهَا أُتِيَ بِهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَمَرَ بِهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَشَكَتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابَهَا ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَرُجِمَتْ ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَتُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا وَقَدْ زَنَتْ؟ قَالَ قَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ سَبْعِينَ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ وَهَلْ وَجَدَتْ تَوْبَةً أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِمُهْجَةِ نَفْسِهَا لِلَّهِ؟  

A woman belonging to the tribe of Juhaynah (according to the version of Aban) came to the Prophet ﷺ and said that she had committed fornication and that she was pregnant. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called her guardian. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: Be good to her, and when she bears a child, bring her (to me). When she gave birth to the child, he brought her (to him). The Prophet ﷺ gave orders regarding her, and her clothes were tied to her. He then commanded regarding her and she was stoned to death. He commanded the people (to pray) and they prayed over her. Thereupon Umar said: Are you praying over her, Messenger of Allah, when she has committed fornication? He said: By Him in Whose hand my soul is, she has repented to such an extent that if it were divided among the seventy people of Medina, it would have been enough for them all. And what do you find better than the fact that she gave her life. Aban did not say in his version: Then her clothes were tied to her. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4440)

[Machine] A woman from Juhaynah came to the Prophet ﷺ while she was pregnant from an illicit affair. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded her guardian to treat her well. When she gave birth, bring the baby to me." He did so, and the Prophet ﷺ ordered her to be covered with her clothes. Then he ordered her to be stoned. After that, he prayed for her and said to Umar, "O Messenger of Allah, do you pray for her while she committed adultery?" He replied, "She has sincerely repented to a degree that if it was distributed amongst the people of Madinah, it would suffice them. Have you seen anything better than a person who has gone so far in improving herself?" 16952 And Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, and Muhammad ibn Salih ibn Hane narrated to me from Abu Ali al-Qabbani, who narrated from Ubaydullah ibn Sa'id, who narrated from Mu'adh ibn Hisham, who narrated from my father, who mentioned it with its chain of narration and its meaning except that he said, "if it was distributed amongst seventy of the people of Madinah, it would suffice them. Have you found anything better than a person who has gone so far in sacrificing herself for Allah?"  

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهِيَ حُبْلَى مِنَ الزِّنَا فَأَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَلِيَّهَا أَنْ يُحْسِنَ إِلَيْهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ حَمْلَهَا فَائْتِنِي بِهَا فَفَعَلَ فَأَمَرَ بِهَا فَشُكَّتْ عَلَيْهَا ثِيَابُهَا ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَرُجِمَتْ ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ ؓ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَتُصَلِّي عَلَيْهَا وَقَدْ زَنَتْ؟ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ شَيْئًا أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا 16952 وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ ثنا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْقَبَّانِيُّ ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ثنا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي فَذَكَرَهُ بِإِسْنَادِهِ وَمَعْنَاهُ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَوْ قُسِمَتْ بَيْنَ سَبْعِينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ لَوَسِعَتْهُمْ وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ أَنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لِلَّهِ ﷻ

"عَنْ عمرانَ بن حُصَيْن أَنَّ امْرأَةً مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ اعْتَرَفَتْ عِنْدَ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ بِالزَّنَا قَالَتْ: أَنَا حُبْلَى، فَدَعَا النَّبِىُّ ﷺ وَلِيَّهَا فَقَالَ: أَحْسِن إِلَيْهَا فَإِذَا وَضَعَتْ فَأَخْبِرْنِى فَفَعَلَ، فَأَمرَ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ فَشُكَّتَ عَلَيْها ثِيَابُهَا، ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَرُجِمَتْ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَيْهَا، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ الله: رَجمْتَهَا ثُمَّ تُصَلِّى عَلَيْهَا؟ قَالَ: لَقَدْ تَابَتْ تَوْبَةً لَوْ قُسِّمَتْ بَيْنَ سَبْعِينَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَسِعْتهُم، وَهَلْ وَجَدْتَ شَيْئًا أَفْضَل مِنْ أنْ جَادَتْ بِنَفْسِهَا لله".
