8. Ṣalāh for Rain (Istisqāʾ) (3/3)
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not curse time, for Allah is time itself."
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "Allah reproaches the son of Adam for his cursing of time, while I am time, in My hands are the night and the day."
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Allah said, 'The son of Adam hurts me for he abuses Time though I am Time: in My Hands are all things, and I cause the revolution of day and night.' (Using translation from Bukhārī 4826)
[Machine] The people of ignorance used to say, "Verily, it is time that destroys us, it is time that kills us and revives us." So, Allah responded to their statement, "Sa'id ibn Musayyib reported from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Allah, the Exalted, says: "The son of Adam offends Me in his statement by abusing time, and I am time, I turn the night and the day. So, when I will, I seize them both." Sufyan recited the verse, "And they said, 'There is no life for us but the life of this world; we die and we live, and nothing destroys us except Time.'"
كَانَ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ الدَّهْرَ هُوَ الَّذِي يُهْلِكُنَا هُوَ الَّذِي يُمِيتُنَا وَيُحْيِينَا فَرَدَّ اللهُ عَلَيْهِمْ قَوْلَهُمْ 6494 قَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ يَقُولُ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى يُؤْذِينِي ابْنُ آدَمَ يَسُبُّ الدَّهْرَ وَأَنَا الدَّهْرُ أُقَلِّبُ لَيْلَهُ وَنَهَارَهُ فَإِذَا شِئْتُ قَبَضْتُهُمَا وَتَلَا سُفْيَانُ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ {وَقَالُوا مَا هِيَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا الدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَى وَمَا يُهْلِكُنَا إِلَّا الدَّهْرُ}
8.37 [Machine] Community of those who abandon prayer
8.38 [Machine] What is mentioned regarding the expiation for intentionally abandoning the prayer without excuse
It is narrated on the authority of Jabir that he heard the Apostle (may peace and blessings be upon him) saying. Verily between man and between polytheism and unbelief is the negligence of prayer. (Using translation from Muslim 82a)
"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'There is nothing between a person and disbelief except abandoning Salah.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 464)
[Machine] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "Between a man and disbelief or polytheism is abandoning the prayer."
[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The difference between a servant (of Allah) and disbelief is the abandonment of prayer, and likewise…"
[Machine] Abu Abdullah Al-Hafiz and Abu Abdullah Al-Salami narrated to us from the original text of his book, they said: Abu Abbas Al-Asamm narrated to us, Abu Abbas bin Muhammad Al-Douri narrated to us, Ali bin Al-Hassan bin Shaqiq narrated to us, Al-Husayn bin Waqid narrated to us, Narrated to us Abu Al-Qasim Abdullah bin Ali bin Abdullah Al-Muadhin, he informed us that Muhammad bin Ahmed Abu Bakr bin Khanb Al-Baghdadi narrated to us, Yahya bin Abi Talib informed us, Zaid bin Al-Hubab narrated to us, Al-Husayn bin Waqid narrated to us, Abdullah bin Buraidah bin Al-Husayb narrated to us from his father, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The covenant between us and them is prayer, so whoever abandons it has disbelieved." In a narration by Ali, he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "And the remaining prayers are equal." It was also narrated on the authority of Umar bin Al-Khattab that he said: "There is no share in Islam for the one who abandons the prayer." And on the authority of Ali, he said: "Whoever does not pray is a disbeliever." And on the authority of Abdullah bin Mas'ud, he said: "Whoever does not pray has no religion."
8.39 [Machine] What can be inferred from this kufr (disbelief) is a kufr that allows shedding blood, not a kufr that takes one out of faith in Allah and His Messenger if one does not deny the obligation of prayer.
AbuMuhammad fancies that witr prayer is essential. (Hearing this) Ubadah ibn as-Samit said: AbuMuhammad was wrong. I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Allah, the Exalted, has made five prayers obligatory. If anyone performs ablution for them well, offers them at their (right) time, and observes perfectly their bowing and submissiveness in them, it is the guarantee of Allah that He will pardon him; if anyone does not do so, there is no guarantee for him on the part of Allah; He may pardon him if He wills, and punish him if He wills. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 425)
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I have been ordered (by Allah) to fight against the people until they testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and offer the prayers perfectly and give the obligatory charity, so if they perform that, then they save their lives and property from me except for Islamic laws and then their reckoning (accounts) will be done by Allah." (Using translation from Bukhārī 25)
[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting among the people when a man came to seek his permission to kill a hypocrite. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted him permission, and the man killed the hypocrite. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then raised his voice and said, "Is it not witnessed that there is no god but Allah?" He replied, "Yes, it is witnessed, but he does not have the right to testify." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then asked, "Is it not witnessed that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah?" He replied, "Yes, it is witnessed, but he does not have the right to testify." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then asked, "Does he not pray?" He replied, "Yes, he does, but he does not have the right to pray." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Those are the ones I have forbidden to be killed. This is the narration of Al-Qattan."
[Machine] Narrated Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, she said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There will be leaders after me whom you will recognize and reject. Whoever denies them, Sulaiman (one of the narrators) said Hisham (another narrator) said in his heart, he will be free (from blame). And whoever dislikes them, he will be safe (from harm). However, whoever accepts and follows them, it was said, 'O Messenger of Allah, should we not fight against them?' He said, 'No, as long as they establish the prayer.'"
