[Machine] When Abdullah ibn Awf arrived as an immigrant, the Prophet ﷺ united him with Sa'd ibn Ar-Rabi'. Sa'd said to him, "I have wealth, and I will give you half of it, and I have two wives, so choose which one you like until I divorce her, and when her waiting period is over, I will marry her to you." Abdullah said to him, "May Allah bless you and your family and wealth. Show me the market." Sa'd did not return that day until he came back with something he had obtained from the market. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "What did you give him?" He replied, "I gave him a golden nugget, or he said, the weight of a golden nugget." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Did you offer him anything to drink?" He replied, "I offered him a bud of gold, or he said, the weight of a bud of gold." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Why didn't you give him even a sheep?"

ʿAbdur Rahman bin ʿAuf said, "When we came to Medina as emigrants, Messenger of Allah ﷺ established a bond of brotherhood between me and Saʿd bin Ar-Rabiʿ. Saʿd bin Ar-Rabiʿ said (to me), 'I am the richest among the Ansar, so I will give you half of my wealth and you may look at my two wives and whichever of the two you may choose I will divorce her, and when she has completed the prescribed period (before marriage) you may marry her.' ʿAbdur-Rahman replied, "I am not in need of all that. Is there any marketplace where trade is practiced?' He replied, "The market of Qainuqa." ʿAbdur- Rahman went to that market the following day and brought some dried buttermilk (yogurt) and butter, and then he continued going there regularly. Few days later, ʿAbdur-Rahman came having traces of yellow (scent) on his body. Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him whether he had got married. He replied in the affirmative. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Whom have you married?' He replied, 'A woman from the Ansar.' Then the Prophet ﷺ asked, 'How much did you pay her?' He replied, '(I gave her) a gold piece equal in weigh to a date stone (or a date stone of gold)! The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Give a Walima (wedding banquet) even if with one sheep .' "

When ʿAbdur-Rahman bin ʿAuf came to Medina and the Prophet ﷺ established the bond of brotherhood between him and Saʿd bin Ar-Rabi-al-Ansari, Saud suggested that ʿAbdur-Rahman should accept half of his property and family. ʿAbdur Rahman said, "May Allah bless you in your family and property; guide me to the market." So ʿAbdur-Rahman (while doing business in the market) made some profit of some condensed dry yoghurt and butter. After a few days the Prophet ﷺ saw him wearing clothes stained with yellow perfume. The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What is this, O ʿAbdur-Rahman?" He said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I have married an Ansar' woman." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What have you given her as Mahr?" He (i.e. ʿAbdur-Rahman) said, "A piece of gold, about the weight of a date stone." Then the Prophet said, Give a banquet, even though of a sheep."

When the emigrants reached Medina. Messenger of Allah ﷺ established the bond of fraternity between ʿAbdur-Rahman and Saʿd bin Ar-Rabi. Saʿd said to ʿAbdur-Rahman, "I am the richest of all the Ansar, so I want to divide my property (between us), and I have two wives, so see which of the two you like and tell me, so that I may divorce her, and when she finishes her prescribed period (i.e. 'Idda) of divorce, then marry her." ʿAbdur-Rahman said, "May Allah bless your family and property for you; where is your market?" So they showed him the Qainuqa' market. (He went there and) returned with a profit in the form of dried yogurt and butter. He continued going (to the market) till one day he came, bearing the traces of yellow scent. The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What is this (scent)?" He replied, "I got married." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "How much Mahr did you give her?" He replied, "I gave her a datestone of gold or a gold piece equal to the weight of a date-stone." (The narrator, Ibrahim, is in doubt as to which is correct.)

So he said to him: "Come here, I will divide my wealth and give you half, and I have two wives, I will divorce one of them, and when she completes her waiting period you may marry her." He said: " May Allah bless you in your family and your wealth. Show me where the market is." So they showed him where the market was and he did not return that day except with some cottage cheese and cooking fat which he had earned as a profit. The Messenger of Allah saw him after that, and he had traces of yellow on him. So he said to him: "What is this?" He said: "I married a woman from the Ansar." He said : " What dowry did you give her?" He said: " A date-stone(of gold) - ( one of the narrators) Humaid said: "Or he said: - gold equal to the weight of a date-stone." So he said: 'Have a banquet, even if with only a sheep." (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1933)

[Machine] Abdul Rahman ibn Awf arrived in Madinah and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a pact of brotherhood between him and Saad ibn ar-Rabee al-Ansari. Saad said to him, "O my brother, I am among the wealthiest people of Madinah, so take half of my wealth and under me are two wives, choose whichever one you like until I divorce her". Abdul Rahman replied, "May Allah bless you in your family and wealth. Show me the market so I can familiarize myself with it". They showed him the market and he went and bought and sold, and made a profit. He came back with some dried dates and clarified butter. Then he stayed for as long as Allah willed. Then he came back with some saffron fibers and the Prophet ﷺ said, "What have you accomplished?" Abdul Rahman replied, "O Messenger of Allah, I have married a woman". The Prophet asked, "Did you verify her truthfulness?" Abdul Rahman said, "No, but I have given her a nugget of gold weighing the size of a date stone". The Prophet said, "May Allah bless you, even if it is merely a small sheep". Abdul Rahman said, "O Messenger of Allah, if I had lifted a stone, I would have hoped for it to be gold or silver."

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , formed a bond between the Muhajireen and the Ansar. He also formed a bond between Sa'd bin Rabee'ah and Abdur Rahman bin Awf. Sa'd said to him, "I have wealth that is divided between us, and I have two wives. Choose whichever one you desire until I divorce her, then marry her." Abdur Rahman replied, "I don't need your wealth or your family. Show me the market." So he went and returned with dates and flour, which he considered to be the best, and went to the Prophet, ﷺ , with traces of saffron on him. The Prophet asked, "What happened?" Abdur Rahman replied, "I have married a woman from the Ansar." The Prophet asked, "What did you give her?" Abdur Rahman replied, "A date stone's weight of gold or a date stone's weight of gold." The Prophet said, "Give a wedding feast, even if it's just with a sheep."

[Machine] I heard Anas ibn Malik say that Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf came to Medina and the Prophet ﷺ arranged a brotherhood between him and Sa'd ibn Ar-Rabi' Al-Ansari. Sa'd offered to divide his wealth and family with Abdur-Rahman, who replied, "May Allah bless you in your family and wealth. Show me the market." Abdur-Rahman went to the market and made a profit by selling some fat. The Prophet ﷺ saw him after a few days with a yellowish complexion, so he asked him, "What's wrong, Abdur-Rahman?" He replied, "I married a woman from the Ansar." The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What did you give her as a dowry?" Abdur-Rahman said, "A piece of gold weighing a date seed." The Prophet ﷺ said, "May Allah bless your marriage. Offer a wedding feast, even if it is with a sheep."

He (i.e. ʿAbdur-Rahman) said, "A piece of gold, about the weight of a date stone." Then the Prophet said, Give a banquet, even though of a sheep." (Using translation from Bukhārī 3937)
